Loosing Hair!

I've been loosing lots of hair since I was 16, but it was ok because it was growing fairly fast. But as one gets older your hair does not grow back as fast. So is there any advice out there as to what to use to keep hair from falling. Maybe a shampoo or conditioner that would work better. I think sometimes the conditioners pull out alot of our hair. At least that happens to me.

What can I do next?

I am 42 and the same thing started happening to me. I started taking hair vitamins from GNC called NourishHair and also started using this shampoo called NuGro. The shampoo really has made a difference and my hair has filled back in where it started thinning around the temples. Check out their website http://www.nugrohairproducts.com and give them a try.

Hope this helps,
M.

First of all I would check with your doctor to make sure there isn't a medical reason for the hair loss. That being said, there are some things you can do pretty cheaply too. When I was having major hair loss from a medication I take, my doctor suggested I take Selentium and also a supplement with the Omega fatty acids. My hairdress suggested a get Tea Tree Oil and drop it onto my hair -only a few drops is needed as it is very potent. It helps the hair grow. I would just take a few drops and mix it in with the amount of condioner I was going to use and let it sit on my head. He also recommended Pantene's Thick & Full Shampoo and Conditioner. This made my hair feel so much fuller while my hair was growing back in - even though my hair was very thin it was starting to feel normal with the shampoo he recommended. I believe Pantene recently changed their packaging and names of their shampoos (as they often do!) so I would just look for whatever their super thickening or volumizing one is. My hair slowing stopped falling out - I don't know exactly what did it, so I don't know what to attribute it to, but I would use the combination. Good luck - and hang in there I know it is disheartening to have you hair fall out.

When I was losing hair from both pregnancies, I used a kit called Curetage. It was shampoo, conditioner and some stuff to spray on the roots. It was a little pricey but it worked really well and my hair stopped falling out and started growing back. I think you can only get it on line.

You might want to see your doctor to be on the safe side. A thyroid imbalance amongst other things can cause hair loss so it might be good to rule those things out. I'm 28 and I have a very thick head of hair, but I lose a big clump in the shower every day. My health is good and I'm a little young for my hair to be naturally thinning out so maybe some women are just more prone to shedding hair. I recently switched to salon quality shampoo and conditioner and although they make my hair more soft and shiny, I haven't noticed any change in the amount I shed. I do notice that my hair has been growing back faster since I started taking the One A Day Women's vitamin. Maybe you could try taking a vitamin and see if anything changes. Not sure if any of this is helpful to you, but sometimes it's good to know that you're not the only one. Best wishes! :)

I would definitely ask your doctor about this. In the meantime, take a daily Biotin supplement and try Nioxin. It is a bit pricey, but Ulta carries it and you can use one of their coupons frequently found in the Sunday paper to purchase it. They also have sales or specials on it quite often.

After you see your doctor and rule out any physical conditions through comprehensive blood tests, try taking a Biotin supplement. I take 5000 mg daily for my hair loss and it has helped. Good luck!

If you hair is coming out from the root then a shampoo or conditioner is not going to fix this. This is a result of an imbalance in your system which can be related to stress, diet or environmental factors. I have a friend who was told she was going bald in her 20's and reversed the problem. She is now in her late 50's and has a gorgeous head of hair. If you want to find out what she did to correct this problem send me a message and I will get you two connected.

Have your THYROID checked right AWAY!!! Make sure they do a full thyroid panel (T3, T4, TSH and the thyroid antibodies tests). This is not normal for a healthy woman.

I had weightloss surgery last year and one of the side effects was hair loss. The doc told me to take Biotin. You can get it anywhere you get vitamins. It made a huge difference for me and after a while I quit taking it.

Rose, It can a sign of not enough fats in your diet, too. It will also cause your skin to be horribly dry. You must have a minimum of 15 grams of fat, but, up to 30 grams each day. Hope this is the cause of your hair thinning ,it's easily fixable, but, it not go see your Dr. ASAP !
BEST OF LUCK ,C. S.

You may want to ask your doctor about this. It may be nothing but many times, hair loss can indicate other problems in your system. If the doctor says it's normal for you, I'm sure he/she can recommend some treatments or you can try going to a dermatologist. My mom has to use special shampoo as well.

Are you loosing it from the root or ends. If it's the ends that is breakage and is easier to deal with. If it's falling out this could be heredity or a medical issue. Have you had your thyroid checked? Pre-natal vitamins help. There is also a product called Nioxin. It's expensive and you have to use it forever once you start. It won't grow in what's gone but it will stop further hair fall out. They have starter kits in salons that sell it. I would talk to a stylist if it's breakage and a doctor if it's falling out.

Not to alarm you, but that sounds like a thyroid issue to me. Please go to your Dr. and have them do a thorough exam to rule out any medical conditions.

Alopecia is a medical condition. It has varying degrees and can be permanent or temporary.

My best advice is to talk to your doctor to make sure there isn't something else going on that is causing this to happen.

Any product that makes claims to help prevent you from naturally shedding without clinical evidence is not FDA approved, and you should exercise caution when using it. Most products sold over the internet and through distributors are not FDA approved for the treatment of alopecia, and I'd caution you to only use products recommended by a Dermatologist.
