Hi ladies, I just wanted to know if anyone out there knows what vitamins or suplements are there for hair loss. I am 21 yrs old and since I was 19 my hair started to fall. it is very frustating becuase every time I brush or when I wash my hair little chunks come out. I am relly starting to worry because I have noticed that when I do a ponny tail it looks very thin. Since I am always busy I want to try first vitamins before going to the doctor. Thanks in advance to all!

What can I do next?

Hair loss can definitely be attributed to thyroid problems. And thyroid can go haywire after pregnancy - mine did.

This site has helped me the very most - much more than synthroid or armour thyroid. You could try the Thyrocare supplement they carry first if you feel like this applies to you, and then try the protocol - which you do with a dr. that knows the treatment. (They have a list.) Please feel free to message me if you have any questions - I have read the dr.s manual they offer and am doing the protocol. Here's the site:

http://www.wilsonsthyroidsyndrome.com/ThyroidAndHairLoss.htm This is a direct link to the hair loss section.

Good luck to you,

Hi E.-
I am so sorry to hear about your hair loss...you are much too young to be losing your hair! I could suggest taking lots of Vitamin B, either a complex or b6, and zinc...however, if you are losing clumps.... It could be thyroid issues, and you may want to see some medical advice too... I would also suggest if you are coloring your hair to gie it a break....but this really sounds like something that needs to be treated from the inside! good luck!

My friend is a high end beautician and she recommends a product called Treatment Density Therapy Complex by Bumble and Bumble. I have not tried it, but she says it works really well for people who are thinning or balding. The downside is that it is pretty expensive. I have found that you can get salon products from Ebay for much less than other sites or the store, but you have to know your prices. Good luck!

Welcome to the wonderful world of hormones...First they make you moody and now they make you lose your hair! I beg you to go to your doctor (forget ANYTHING over-the-counter until you do), and get your thyroid checked. Other hormones, like low progesterone can also cause hair loss. Do your homework before you start spending money. A good local Dr in Salt Lake is Stephen Jepsen--he specializes in things like this. Good Luck.

I noticed the same thing after I had my first child. After five months or so of feeling extremely tired and my hair constantly falling out I went to my doctor. He asked me if he had checked my thyroid and I told him that he hadn't. A blood test revealed that I had a low thyroid just like many women in my family have. I had to have thyroid checks done every few months until it was balanced out. Now I just have to go in once a year. I no longer have to clean the bathtub drain that often!!

Biotin is just about the best nutritional for hair loss. If you are pulling it back in a pony tail, that can be too much tension and can cause hair loss. Stress is a common cause of hair loss. It can also be a variation of alopecia. Please see your dermatologist. Are you on any medications ?

Go to the doctor. They can help you find the right type of vitamins, if that will help you. This may be part of a larger problem, so you definately should get it checked out and not take internet advice. Sorry ladies, no offence intended; but not that many of us are qualified to give advice on medical issues.

Definitely check with a doctor first, but if he/she recommends supplements, the BEST one I have ever tried (and I've tried quite a few) is the NIOXIN supplement for hair and nails (called Nioxin Intensive Therapy Recharging Complex). It can be found at most hair salons that carry Nioxin brand. I have had great success with thicker and stronger hair (and nails) from that particular supplement.

I had the same problem, for me the cause was hormonal imbalances so suppliments would be a waste of time unless they promote hormonal balance.

You have gotten a lot of good advice. First thing is to go to your primary care physician. There are tests they can run to rule out if you have any inbalances. If all of that comes up normal, you may want to get a referral to a dermatologist. They can delve deeper into your situation. Unfortunately for me, hair loss runs in the family and there is not much I can do to stop it. It has been suggested that I start using Rogaine so I can keep what little hair I have left. I hope your situation has a brighter outlook.

I went through this not too long ago, It's awful. You can start taking MSM and vitamin C, and a complete B vitamin, that helped me a great deal. Go to a health food store like vitamin cottage, they will be able to help you there. My hair dresser also had me start using shampoo and conditioner called NIOXIN Cleanser and Scalp Therapy, it helps re-grow hair and makes it grow faster. For now I would recommend not using ponny tails or anything that pulls on your hair/scalp. I really hope this helps you and good luck,

Sincerely, C.

You could be having thyroid problems. Have it checked it's an easy test. However I do not recommend invasive procedures and medications to correct the problem if you have one. Some thyroid issues are caused from a 'clogged' liver so I would start with a cleansing and detoxing.

My friend was diagnosed with "Alopecia" a few years ago, which is hair loss due to an immune reaction. That is according to MDs. They may be right, BUT, as I always ask, what is causing the body to attack itself? I believe when you find the cause, you find the cure. My friend has been to doctors many times each time coming away with nothing but a diagnosis of alopecia. After having her first baby back in November she lost ALL of her hair and now has a permanent wig. The MDs say there is nothing they can do. HOWEVER, my husband is a Chiropractor here in Fruitland and I am convinced "alternative" doctors like him could definitely help you. They look at the cause, remove the interferences in the body, and allow your body to heal. My husband's title is a Chiropractor, but Chiropractic is only a small portion of what he does. I don't know where you are located, but I bet you could find a good alternative care provider. We use whole food nutrition not sythetic man-made (toxic) vitamins. Definitley look for a provider who uses whole food nutrition. If you are unable to locate someone and want to come out to Fruitland our practice is Total Wellness Chiropractic and Holistic Care. Good luck to you! -R.

E.,
Vitamins & Supplements are great, however I think it would be wiser to go see your doctor. It is natural to loose hair, I have extremely thick hair and when I started loosing little chunks of it I went to the doctor. Thankfully after blood tests and so on, they found nothing wrong and he said it was normal. However, there are medical problems that can cause hair lose. So I urge you to see your doctor just to be safe.
Good Luck

Hi,
I am all for vitamins, but since this could be a thyroid issue, it would be wise to have a fasting blood test to rule out thyroid issues.
Going to the health food store and searching out a multi-vitamin capsule that contains "balanced" B vitamins...all having the same number of milligrams would be good, too. B vitamins help with stress. Adding olive or canola oil to your diet would be helpful, too!

I went through that at about 23 years. I had my thyroid checked and everything, but it was all normal. My dad had very curly thick hair (like I did), and he was bald by 20. So I think I just lived up to my dad's gene and was left with my mom's gene which is thin straight hair. I know that's probably not scientifically correct, but it seems like it to me. It normalized in a short time, but you should still check your thyroid, etc.

I was your age when my hair started thinning(I'm 34 now). I always had long thick hair up until my early 20's, so I sympathize with you in regards to this delicate issue. As far as vitamins go...I'm not quite sure to be honest. I believe Vitamin E and B are good for hair growth, but, I'd research that first before investing your money. There are so many possibilities to women's hair loss(i.e. Thyroid, stress, family history). There is a website that may be of some help: www.heralopecia.com
And of course, consulting with a physician is always a big help. If you're losing "chunks" of hair, it wouldn't be a bad idea to schedule an appointment to see your doctor soon.

I hope all goes well for you.
You are not alone,

My college roommate had a similar problem and it turned out her diet was protein-deficient. But she found this out by going to the doctor, so that's probably what you should do. The doctor will probably check a few things--we are just guessing based on our own experience. A doctor's experience is more wide-based. If you are protein-deficient, the doctor will probably recommend protein shakes and more lean protein in your foods. Again, if it's severe you should probably see a doctor before it gets serious.

Have you seen a doctor or considered seeing one?
I used to have a lot of hair loss as well. I saw my doctor and through a blood test it was found that I have Hypothyroidism (under active thyroid). This can have a big impact on hair loss and many other things like weight gain, being tired, forgetfulness, etc...just something to consider.
You may also want to ask a hair stylist about prodcuts for your hair loss.
Good luck!

Hi E....how frustrating. My name is B., I am a 32 year old mother of two with a deep rooted interest in holistic health and nutrition. I have been doing self study in this area for approx 10 years. As my mother faces her 3rd battle with cancer I have a strong desire to educate myself and learn the "why's" of things going wrong in our bodies. I believe strongly in getting well from the inside out rather than just taking a drug to mask the symptoms.

In my journey, I have come across a researcher who's name is Doug Kaufmann. He has been a nutritional researcher for 35 years and him along with several doctors in the US, Italy. and Russia have linked fungal infections to almost every autoimmune disease that exists. Fungal infections you might be familiar with include yeast infections, toenail fungus, ringworm, and dandruff. Those are the common external infections...but the same thing can occuur internally as well. Exposure sources would be antibiotics, wheat, corn, and peanut products, or a moldy house/environment. Once an infection begins, it thrives on sugar (and anything that converts to sugar). It is very in depth, but makes perfect sense. I have read 3 of his 8 books and I believe it is The Fungus Link Volume 3 that has a specific chapter on hair loss. It would absolutely be worth you looking into. Go to www.knowthecause.com to check him out. A round of antifungals and an antifungal diet (which he has a cookbook for) would probably do you a world of good. This may sound hard to understand ,but once you start to read about it it makes perfect sense.

He has also proven (along with a surgical ONCOLOGIST in Italy,) that cancer is a fungus. My mother is undergoing the doc's treatments in Italy with some IV antifungals and the tumor is shrinking. He has a 90% cure rate and conventional med is only 7% ...sorry that is off the subject..I just want to get the word out that there are options!! Anyway, best of luck to you...I truly believe this would be worth a shot. Let me know if you have other questions about this.
