Looking for Suggestions to Stop Nail Biting

Hi,
I am looking for any suggestions of what to use to stop my 2 year old from biting her nails. Lemon juice is out because I think it would burn and I am not interested in trying pepper or anything hot. Any suggestions would be welcome.
Thanks!

Give her something else to bite. She may be looking for oral stimulation and those little nails are just so available! When my daughter went through this (and even still deals with it from time to time), I got a whole bunch of those key chains on the rubber coil bracelets in all different colors. Remove the metal key ring and she can wear one or five, whatever she wants. When you see her biting her nails, tell her to bite her bracelets instead. This may be just her "thing" and will take a while to redirect. If it continues for ages to come, keeping sugarless gum stocked is another way to keep her mouth busy when she is old enough for it.

I was a chronic nail biter....my mom had used something called "thum" or "thumb" and I think that it is chili oils...it was called the "yucky stuff" in our house and let me tell you...it did the trick. :)
P.s. I saw it at Walgreens the other day....and had flashbacks...tee hee

They might make special nail polish to help with that but I would be concerned since she is so young. It might just be something she'll grow out of (like I did myself). Maybe if you keep iterating how her pretty little hands will look nicer without biting it might help. Or offer incentives... if she has a little nail growth at the end of one week on 1 finger nail she gets "x" item. And then if she keeps the growth on the 1 and has growth on another finger by "x" week she gets another little present. And by 10 weeks if all nails have some growth mommy and her will have a "spa" day and get a manicure together? Not sure. That might be my tactic. :) Good luck!

They do make a product made specifically for this. I'm not sure of the brand name, but you could probably find it at Walgreens or other stores by the nail products. It is a clear "polish" that you paint on and it is supposed to have a bitter taste.

You could also try some positive reinforcement. Some kind of reward for not biting. You could make a chart just like many people do for potty training, with stickers for days she doesn't bite. Maybe a reward could be to paint her nails (really light pink.) Just some suggestions. Good Luck.

Gloves. Since she is a girl you can actually get her the pretty dress-up gloves. Easter is over and you can probably find them on clearance. Btw, pepper doesn't work. We tried it on our son for his finger sucking, and he would just lick & wipe until it came off.

You can always try soap. After washing her hand, just run her nails over the bar. It will taste horrible, and yet as we (at least those of us who had parents that "washed our mouth out") can attest it has no real side effects. But, then at the age of 2 you could just keep cutting them so they are to short for her to bite. I would think that she should grow out of it rather quickly using either the soap or cutting them.

It worked great. it was a thin liquid that you just put on there nails and it had a very bitter taste and it didnt sting or burn him. hope you find something that works.

They have a nasty tasting nail polish called...Stop Biting. I bought it at Ulta. Go where the nail polish area is and look for it. Its in a box. If you don't see it just ask someone.

We spent time making them pretty, polish, glitter, stickers and if she could "respect" our work... than we kept it up. My Daughter's 7 now and we still get a kick out of Friday night nail time. Also, lots of attention on "I'm so impressed that you can be so responsible for your beautiful nails" etc. etc.
good luck!
