Looking for Recommendation for OB/GYN That Delivers at Loyola or Gottlieb

I was going to use my sister's OB, but found out that he delivers at a hospital where I am not covered by my insurance. I need to find an OB in the next week or so. I have decided that I'd like to deliver at Loyola Hospital or Gottlieb Hospital, both in Maywood, IL (both are Loyola, just different facilities, and I understand, doctors.)

Have any of you delivered at one of these? Would you recommend it? And does anyone have an OB that they really love that would deliver at one of these hospitals? What do you like about them?

I do have an autoimmune condition, but it's in remission, so I've been given the green light to go to a regular OB......but would obviously like one with good experience.

Thanks in advance for your recommendations!

So What Happened?

I wholeheartedly recommend Loyola Maywood for delivery of your child! I ended up delivering early, at 31 weeks. From the beginning to the end.....from my time with Loyola's Maternal Fetal Medicine Doctors to the NICU....with labor and delivery and postpartum in between - EVERYONE was top notch. We received the best medical care possible...both myself and our daughter. I really can't say enough!

I mainly saw Dr. Bessinger with MFM....though Dr. Carlman made the final call for delivery. I was in L&D for 10 days before delivery and the nurses, doctors, residents and fellows were AWESOME. They know what they are doing and they really care too. And then I can't say enough about Loyola's NICU. Our daughter was there for a month and I never once worried about her. The nurses have all been there for, I'm guessing, an average of 20 years each. Her main nurse was Helen, who was just amazing. We couldn't have asked for a better person to take care of her.

The other thing that I will say about the entire experience is that we never once felt like a number!

If you are looking for a hospital to deliver your baby and are most concerned with having top medical care, with doctors and nurses with tremendous knowledge and experience and who actually care about what they are doing....Loyola is for you. Don't even think of anywhere else!

Unless Gotlieb changed, I would stick with Loyola. I have heard too many terrible storys about Gotlieb. I delivered at Lagrange and was very happy.

I haven't delivered at Gottlieb, I have heard Loyola is great. I have had friends that were delivery nurses at Loyola. Honestly I despise Gottlieb Hospital, I had a family member have the worst experience there and I wouldn't go there on my deathbed. I am sorry, I know that is not constructive advice, I just think that hospital is terrible.

Dr. Scott Pierce - his office is at Gottlieb. I had a high risk pregnancy and he saved my son's life. I would highly recommend him. I do not know if he has priveleges at Loyola proper, although since they are now the same group, he might. When I had my son he also had delivered at Rush - St. Lukes, but that was quite a long time ago, so it may have changed. His number is ###-###-#### - he is the best around, bar none.
Good Luck!

Hello W.,

Congrats on your pregnancy!

One thing I appreciate about Loyola is the continuity of care, from your post partum checkups to any possible needs your child might have (mine, surprisingly, had several).

I am currently 39 weeks along with baby boy #2. My first son was born @ 36.4 weeks at Loyola via emergency c-section, since he had the cord wrapped around his neck. he was delivered by Dr. Paula White, who has the distinction of delivering the smallest surviving baby ever (I believe she was 9oz).

My son needed to be in the NICU, and Loyola's NICU is 2nd to none in the Chicago area, and one of the best in the world. I am so thankful to Loyola for the superb care that they gave to my son, who very honestly, would have died without the swift action of Dr. White and the neonatologists and NICU nurses. My son stayed in the NICU for 13 days, and after he was discharged he had periodic follow up visits with Neonatologists and development specialists who tracked his progress.

As many preemie boys do, my son had a hernia when he was 2 months old and had to have surgery, and, once again, Loyola was right there for us with the very skilled Dr. Barry Newman who performed his surgery. My son was home the same day.

During my pregnancy I went to the Loyola Oakbrook Terrace facility, where, at the time Dr. Scott Graziano was the lead dr. He has since moved on to the Loyola La Grange Park facility (I believe). So, the Loyola OB/GYNs I have experience with are Drs. Graziano, White (maiden name is Prock, and she is sometimes listed as this), and Sridevi Redi.

With this pregnancy I am going to a group of drs. from Edward in Naperville, but if I lived closer to LUMC I would go there again in a heartbeat!

Additionally, Loyola is an academic institution, so they are on the cutting edge of research and technology and truly have some of the best doctors in the Midwest.

Loyla recently moved their birthing center from the LUMC campus in Maywood to Gottlieb, but the staff should still be LU doctors.

GOOD LUCK TO YOU!

I recommend Scott Graziano, he is at both. I actually switched to him midway through my 4th pregnancy, and was very pleased. He is willing to work with you on the plans you have for your birth. Hope this helps. J.

My friend (her son is almost 6 mos) LOVES her OB Group. They deliver at Loyola or Gottlieb. Her doc's name is Sarita Massey. There are 3 docs in the practice (1 man and 2 women) and they are as interventionist as you would like (willing to let you go natural or give drugs if you want). Their number for the Riverside office is ###-###-####. They see patients at Loyola Gottlieb and Riverside and you can choose that option on the phone to talk to the scheduling clerks at either office. She suggests you request to deliver at Gottlieb as the hospital is pretty new and VERY state of the art. She also suggests you try to get your 20 week ultrasound at the Loyola office rather than Riverside so you don't have to drink ALL THAT WATER -- the Loyola office has state of the art equipment and you don't need to drink water (which is totally awesome). My friend has lupus (just as an FYI) but was cleared to see a normal OB as well -- she did have some complications from her lupus around her due date and they induced 4 days early. Hope this helps -- if you want me to put you in touch with my friend, drop me an e-mail at ____@____.com or send me a Mamasource message.

Good Luck!

Hi W.,
I delivered my 2 children at Gottlieb. My OB/GYN was Dr. Afshar. I've been with him for 19 years and I can't say enough about him. We moved out to Mount Prospect and I will travel just to keep him. His associate Dr. Ardakani is fabulous too! She actually deliverd my my two children as she was on call when I went into labor BOTH times. What are the odds :) Their number is ###-###-####. Best of luck!

I really liked the practice at Loyola's North Riverside office, and they all deliver, as did I, at Loyola.

I specifically liked Dr. Sarita Massey and Dr Amy Stoeffler.

Delivering at Loyola was great, and the nurses there are supurb in my opinion!

Hi W.~
I love love LOVE my Ob/Gyn and he is out of Gottlieb.
Dr. James Gomez . . . he (and his staff) are wonderful. He was so patient with me and took the time no matter what to make sure I was comfortable with what was going on throughout my pregnancies. I had really wanted a natural birth and he worked with me to try and make that happen. And when it didn't, he was so good with my c-section (making sure I was ok with everything cause he knew I was disappointed and scared)- the nurses all said that he was one of their favorite doctors to work with.
AND a big thing with me is that I had post-partum with both my children and he was there for me the entire time.
Good luck with your decision!
God Bless
D.

I did not deliver at either hospital. But I would HIGHLY recommend Loyola. They have an amazing NICU (god forbid you need it) and the facility is much nicer than Gottlieb. As far as a doctor, I don't have any recommendations but hopefully someone does. I work in both of these hospitals and would personally not want to go to Gottlieb. Congrats and Good Luck!
