Looking for an Excellent Pre-K in the Northland

I send my children to St. Andrew the Apostle Pre-school in Gladstone. My children really enjoy going and I know they are safe. My 5 year old in Pre-K is already reading some and doing some addition. This is due in part to school and home.

Sorry I took so long to respond. I have an excellent recommendation for you, if you would also like a Christian based school. It was known as ICAN (Independent Christian Academy of the Northland) for 30 years and just this year they changed their name to Heartland Christian Preschool. They are at I-29 and 64th Street - you can see them from the interstate - they are on the frontage road just south of 64th Street.

I absolutely cannot say enough wonderful things about them. I have 4 children and my two oldest did not go there - they went to Montessori (Clay-Platte is also nice); but my daughter who will be in 1st grade this year went there for pre-kindergarten (wonderful program for preparing for kindergarten) and my youngest has gone there this year two 1/2 days a week and then for pre-kindergarten she will go there for 3 1/2 days per week.

We briefly used the full-time care they also offer and loved that as well! They are so compassionate and loving and truly care about the kids.

My daughter goes to Shoal Creek Community church preschool and she loves it. I would recommend them. The class sizes are small and the teachers are awesome. Good luck, I know this is a big step.

I'm unsure if they have any openings left, but OakHill Day School in my opinion, is one of the best schools in the Kansas City Metro area. Their programs are excellent, teachers/faculty are incredible and the overall close-knit community at Oakhill is amazing. I have no doubt they could callenge your child. My son was in preschool this year and had PE every day, Spanish class/Technology(computers), library, and music in a set schedule each week. They also take it one step further and teach/challenge each child at their own level. They are located in Gladstone, MO. Let me know if you have any other questions. The North Kansas City School District offers Pre-Kindergarten, and the program gets rave reviews from parents. Here is a link to read about it:

I do not recommend Oakhill Day School. I know several families who had to get tutoring for their children after switching from Oakhill to the NKC Public Schools, because they were BEHIND the public schools, despite having received high grades while at Oakhill. You will also find that Oakhill always promotes that "space is limited" or that there may be only a few openings. This has been done for the last decade or so due to declining enrollment, downsizing and the need for new families (and their tuition!).

I'm sure that would not be true in every school system, but we are so blessed here in the northland. I hope this information is helpful to you, and good for you for recognizing your daughter's need for further academic stimulation.

My 2 year old goes to the Hands on Montessori School in Platte City, I don't know how close you are to Platte City. They have a great program from ages 1 1/2 to 6+, it is a daycare, preschool combined.

Their number is ###-###-####, I am not sure on openings but it wouldn't hurt to try. I am really happy with what they teach at 2 years.

You might try going private school. They will test her & put her where she needs to be. I don't know where your located exactly but in the Avondale there's a school called Outreach Christian Education & it is fairly resonable. It's a wonderful school & it's small, so your daughter will get more one on one time with the teacher as well. Good luck & God Bless!

We were very happy with Oakhill Day School. It's a little pricey, but the teachers are great.
