My friend and her two little girls (8 and 6) who are coming to visit over the weekend of June 14th. I have three little ones 3 and under and am trying to find something fun to do that Saturday. I was thinking a rodeo or something "Texas" would be fun, but I can't seem to find one. Anyone out there know of one, or something else that's not Six Flags?
UPDATED!!!
We went yesterday and checked out Amazing Jake's in Plano. It's really fantastic and gives cause to go to the Collin Creek Mall once again! Later in the evening, and since the kids took a late nap, we went to the rodeo in Mesquite. It was great. We sat up front and the clowns came over and talked to the girls. They LOVED it. We of course have the splash parks near us and various pools, McKinney Trade Days, the dairy farm that was suggested, the Rough Riders, the Stockyard....there are so many great suggestions. PHEW! Great job Mama's! You've come through and saved my kids again!!!! THANK YOU!

Why not head to Ft. Worth! Go to the Stockyards, walk around downtown. There is the Museum of Science and History, The National Cowgirl museum, Stockyard Museum.

There is a rodeo in Mesquite, google the mesquite tx rodeo.
another fun place to go in mesquite after the rodeo (or before) is the Traildust restraunt. they have a real cow boy style atmosphere and a dance floor/band and a HUGE slide in the middle of the room for eveyone to slide down. its a great family place and the food is pretty good to!
Don't wear a tie though they will cut if off and hang it on the wall of ties.
Another idea is the Midevil Times dinner and tournament. LOTS of fun get there early to browse the gift shop then enjoy your midevil show of jousting, knights and princesses and horses...
Have fun!

There is a train called the Tarantula train that leaves from Grapevine and goes into downtown Fort Worth. It's an old-timey train and the ride itself is rather fun. The there is a cattle drive right through the stockyards area, other stuff that's fun to do, a petting corral, and rodeo trials or training going on. There's an old-time candy shop with every candy you can imagine from your childhood (depending on how old you are.) They would probably get a kick out of it. You guys can also hit some of the other things downtown. And the train ride would give you guys some time to chat. Google Tarantula train Grapevine for all the info.
Have you looking into what is going on at the Fort Worth stockyards. some weekends they have historical portrayals, train rides, cattle drives, and great restaurants and shops for moms.
We are not much for the rodeo, been there.
We lvoe the Frisco Roughriders baseball team. The area is small, very family friendly and kids love it. We still go with our now 13 yr old and she takes a couple of buddies. Safe enough that they can "explore" but we are still there watching out for them.

MESQUITE!!!! The world famous Mesquite Rodeo!!!
Have you considered the Fort Worth Stockyards?
M.,
The Mesquite Rodeo is open I think through September. It's an indoor arena so you won't have to suffer through the heat! The kids should love it!
I'm sure there's a web site for it that should give you all the info you need.

The Mequite Rodeo is pretty close by.

Fort Worth Zoo and trip to the stockyards for dinner?
IMAX theater Fort Worth Science museum
good luck and happy planning
Mesquite Rodeo Fridays/Saturdays.
Or have check around for a place that has tea parties. There use to be place in old downtown Plano.
Why don't you check out the Mesquite Rodeo? It's been around for yrs and yrs. I've heard it's lots of fun. It's located right off 635 in Mesquite. Also the Dallas Aquarium is an awesome place to visit with kids or adults! The Fort Worth Zoo is a good one and I've heard Dallas is pretty good as well. Have a great summer!

A water park might be fun. Hawaiian Falls is supposed to be nice. Lots of water slides. They have a location in The Colony and somewhere else I'm not sure of. You can google them. They are not cheap. You can rent a bungalow for the day which looks nice to do.
A cheaper option is a town pool with a lot of fountains, etc. The Rosemeade Rec Center in Carrollton has a newly renovated water park area with lots of fountains for little ones like yours, and a lazy river and bigger fountains, dumping bucket, high dive, for bigger kids. It's $5 for nonresidents. $3 for residents. I've heard Plano has a nice one too, but I've never been.
Since you are in Allen, the Frisco Horse Farm might be a fun, close, more low key option too. They have pony rides.I've been wanting to try it, but never been there.
For something really "authentic" you can visit a real local farm. We go to R&C Dairy in Collinsville. You take the tollway north to the end, go west on 380 to 377, take 377 north to the farm, which is on the left BEFORE you get to the town of Collinsville. wwww.randcdairy.com. They have goats, cows, border collies, honey bees, chickens, roosters. Shop is open for business from Noon to 4pm on Saturdays. You can buy goat or cows milk, yogurt, cheese and butter, farm fresh eggs, baked goods, fruit in season. Kids love to feed the goats and chickens grasses growing around the pens. This is a state inspected and certified raw milk dairy.
With all your little ones, you may not be up for the hustle and bustle of a Fort Worth trip or even a full rodeo. Many are at night, though, so you might get a sitter for yours and take the older kids out.
Good luck.
We like going to the Mesquite Rodeo, at the Resistol Arena. I think they have it every weekend during the summer months. Maybe google it, there ya go! Kat
Go to the Mesquite Rodeo any Friday or Saturday night
or to Ft Worth Stockyards...
At the stockyards there is a maze to race thru, train rides(shorter ones, or ones that go to grapevine) candy store, places to eat and shop, and if you check the schedule - a rodeo to attend. As far as rodeos go, I like Mesquite. It is very kid friendly.
Also my experience with kids that age, is that they will lose interest in the rodeo itself if they are not sitting up CLOSE, where they can really see the action. I had a tendency to get the "cheap" seats for them, and they really had less interest. If you get there early enough you could also sign them up to be part of Mutton Bustin' (riding a sheep) or the Calf Run (trying to grab the ribbon off of a calfs tail).. there are a gazillion kids out there on the rodeo floor...

A place just opened up at Collin Creek Mall in Plano off 75 central, It's called Big Jakes. It has something REALLY for everyone. Just think Chucky cheeses only WAY BETTER! Food and all. You should check it out, and no I don't work for them, I just happen to paint faces at Gatti Town in Frisco, which is just like Big Jakes only smaller. Hope you have fun!

Check out the rodeo in Mesquite. We've been several times, with and without kids, and just love it. It's a big hit for those visiting Texas....it's just the cowboy scene they expect in Texas. Also, there's a spray ground or sprinkler park in Allen (Celebration Park) that I've heard is a lot of fun. Google the park name and Allen and you'll find some info. There's also a sprinkler park in Rockwall (Harry Myers Park, I believe) that I've heard good things about. We recently took the DART train to the Dallas Zoo and the kids really liked that (I have three under 7). We stopped at the West End for BBQ at Sonny Brian's on the way back (everybody's got to have BBQ in Texas, right?) The sprinkler parks are free so definitely check those out.....might be a nice evening activity. Have fun!
If you want a Texas-themed restaurant, try Love & War in Texas. It's in Plano on the North side of Plano Parkway just Eas of 75. They have Texas food, drinks & musicians. Their website is www.loveandwarintexas.com
The Mesquite Rodeo is on every Friday and Saturday May thru Sept or so. It is a full fledged rodeo with top professionals. It is a very family friendly enviromnment and reasonable in cost to attend.
Check it out on the internet.
The Mesquite Rodeo is super! You have to go. We have relatives from Iceland and we go there every time! There is even a part that the kids get down in the orena and they tie a pink ribbon on 1 calf's tail and a blue on the other. The kids chase the calfs till the ribbon is taken! Type in Mesquite Rodeo or just look it up on Yahoo, FUN
