Hi There! We are new to Oregon, moved here in December from Dallas. My 5 year old is very high energy, and loves playing with other kids. He goes to daycare during the week, but is the oldest in his class, and has recently become very home sick for his friends in Texas. I think making some new friends outside of school might help. We need to meet some people as well :)
Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi S., I'm part of the Hillsboro New and Expecting Mom's group through the meetup.com site.. Lots of fun planned activities:

Hillsboro New & Expecting Parents is a group of active moms and dads with infants (or with one on the way) to get together on a regular basis for friendship, support and fun. We meet up for walks, coffee, lunch, picnics and BBQs in the parks, play dates at member's houses, zoo trips and anything else we can find that is infant-friendly. We also have monthly mom's nights and the occasional family BBQs and potlucks on weekends.

I would try to get playdates with the kids he goes to daycare with. Ask him who he's played with that day, and ask the daycare provider for parent information. If he's not really playing with anyone, ask the daycare provider for suggestions on who to pair him up with.

Also get to know who's in your neighborhood. Are there kids that play in the street or outside? Plan a neighborhood bbq and invite your neighbors. It's a great way to get to know everyone. When we do it, we knock on doors, introduce ourselves, and pass out flyers. Not many people come, but I still have a good idea who's in our neighborhood. We've been doing this for the last 4 years. Take alot of walks in your neighborhood, introduce yourself to anyone you meet, find out where the other kids live, etc. It's nice to have friends nearby.

It might take some courage to be so forward, but it really helps. It will teach your child alot about making new friends.

Hope that helps.

Hey there,
My name is Sue and I have a 3 year old boy who will be turning 4 in May. We also live in Hillsboro and are fairly new to the area as well.
We live a couple of blocks down from down town Hillsboro and would love to meet new friends. Due to my work, my son doesn't have many friends since there isn't many play dates after 5pm :O)
Would love to talk and have the pleasure of meeting you so that we can have the little ones play!!!
Please let me know if interested.
Thank you
