My little girl is 9 months old and sleeps with me most of the time (although we are trying to get her to sleep in her crib now- that's another story for another day!). I change her into a fresh diaper right before she goes to bed, usually around 8 pm. However, usually by 2 or 3 am she has peed the diaper full and it is leaking onto my bed! It's very unpleasant! I know the obvious solution would be to change her diaper, but while she is sleeping well I would rather not wake her up fully to change her in the middle of the night. I am currently using Huggies size 4 and they leak almost every single night. Any suggestions for a more absorbent diaper? Do most moms do a middle of the night diaper change at this age??
Wow!! Thank you all so much for your advice!! I did try the Pampers Cruisers last night and they worked great- no leaks!! I had never heard of the Diaper Doublers and I will give them a try too. Thanks again for all your responses!

Hi H.. I have twin 13 month old sons. I had the same issue with Huggies. I switched to Pampers and we don't have nearly the leaks we used to. Most mornings they wake up with diapers that weigh about 10 lbs. And, I'm with you. Not interested in waking a sleeping baby even if it means keeping the bed dry. Good luck.

When my son was an infant I had this same problem. I tried a lot of different diapers until I found the Parents Choice diapers at Walmart. Believe it or not they worked better than the name brand diapers. You may have to go up a size because they run a little smaller than the name brand diapers. Now that my son is older (15 mos.)I have switched back to Huggies and we aren't having any problems with leaking. The only reason I switched back to Huggies is because of the way the sizes run he was getting to big for the largest Parent's Choice. I hope this helps. Good Luck!

I too have to change a middle of the night diaper from time to time.
One cause of a leaky diaper is that the diaper is too small and you may need to move to the next size. Also I have found that Huggies Supreme leak less than any other brand (for us anyway).
Good luck!

I agree with the comments about Pampers, but I have two little ones in diapers right now and can't afford them all the time. I get mine from Sams's Club, they are Member's Mark brand. They work wonders. I hated Huggies. White Cloud from Wal-Mart are also good, but the Sam's Club diapers are the best bargain and they work. Hope this helps. :)

Hi H.
Nothing against huggies, but i didn't like them for that reason. For the price they were I thought they would be more absorbent. I used white cloud diapers. Found only at walmart. I tried all diff kinds and then one day I saw in a parenting magazine an advertisement for them, so I tried them and never went back. Hope this helps. =)

Hi H.,
I had the same problem with my son. You can try changing brands, but for us, we found it made very little difference for those overnight, super-soaked pampers. You can buy these liners called diaper doublers which add a lot more absorbency. You can also buy them in difference sizes (thin - thick) and some are even reusable, based on what you need.
I do not change my 10 mo. old's pamper at night. He does not want to be disturbed when sleeping and heaven help the person that wakes him up before he is ready!

I swear by Pampers Cruisers. I had problems with my son leaking through Huggies diapers and have used pampers swaddlers and cruisers ever since! He is 3 1/2 and finally potty trained. I also have a daughter who is 7 1/2 months and I haven't had a problem with leaking for either while using these diapers!
If you don't want to switch brands, try putting a larger diaper on her at night (size 5).
Good luck.

I have never been able to use Huggies. They always leaked for me. I use either Luvs or White Cloud. They are cheaper anyway. I found that when a size was getting too small they would leak. You might want to try a larger size diaper and possible switch brands. My son is 18 months and always drinks before bed and I put him down around 8 and he doesn't get changed until 7 in the morning and is just fine.

Hi,
My first child was a heavy night time wetter during infancy, too. We used cloth diapers during the day. At night I used huggies supreme b/c I felt they held the most liquid. But that still wasn't good enough! I then started wrapping a cloth diaper and cover (Mother Ease) around the disposable. That worked! It caught the excess liquid. Changing a babies entire outfit and sheets in the middle of the night is no fun.
Hope this helpful!

I have never used Huggies as my younger sister did with her 1st son and complained about them leaking. I have always used Pampers and use Pamper's Cruisers now. They are a little more expensive than Huggies, but are worth it. I have found that the cheapest way to buy more for the money is to buy them in the box. My 19 month old weighs 28 lbs and is in the size 4. The cheapest places I have found them is Sam's Club and Publix. At those 2 places you get 140 diapers for $32-34 a box. If you have a Publix, every 3-5 weeks or so they put them on sale and you can get them for $29...or so that it the price where I live. You don't get as many in a box at Wal-mart....92 I think for almost $20. Good luck, I hope this helps.

I agree with everyone else here. I used Huggies for the one package I got from my baby shower and have been gung-ho Pampers all the way. Until we needed to cut our budget a bit and the Kroger brand works just as well, but if I still had the extra cash, Pampers is my number 1. I tried, Luvs and wasn't impressed. It didn't leak but it got REALLY bulky and uncomfortable for him. I only do a middle of the night change if he wakes up, but I have gone through the same problem.

It's the Huggies. If you open a size 4 Huggies and put it corner to corner with a size 4 Pampers or even Luvs, Huggies is a good inch smaller. They leak. We had lots of problems with them because of this and really like the other two brands better. I have tons of Huggies coupons -- from the newspaper and from the manufacturer -- but will never go back to them because they just don't work for us.

I would recommend trying diffent brands. I had a similar problem until I started using Pampers; I didn't have to change any more diapers during the night after the switch. But you need to try different ones for yourself. It's not always an absorbency issue, but rather one of fit, and every baby is different . . . Hope that helps! Good luck! :)

I definitely would suggest the WalMart brand White Cloud! We switched way early because of the same thing. (and because of the price) Size 4 is 22-37 pounds so we were probably using a size 4 at nine months in this brand, just shy of 22 pounds according to my records!
Good Luck!

Glad you like the Pampers Cruisers...I have a 13 month old that pees like crazy at night. They hold up as long as you have the tabs secure. One thing about pampers, if you look inside the package of any pampers product, you will see a long sequence of letters and numbers on a sticky tag. Go to pampers.com and register. You can plug in these letters/numbers and collect points for free stuff! I think that's so cool. You have to spend the money on the diapers/wipes/little swimmers anyways, so might as well take 2 minutes and get some free stuff out of it! Just a thought. Good luck!

I had the same problem with both of my girls when they were babies. Look for a product called "Diaper Doublers"--they are like giant pads that you put inside the diaper and they work great. No more leaks! You should be able to find them in grocery stores in the diaper section (they come in a blue package, I think)or maybe even Target or Wal-Mart. I had a hard time finding them when we lived in Massachusetts so I ended up ordering a case directly from the company (Google "Diaper Doublers" to find their web site if you have to). I've also seen "night time" diapers at the stores, but I don't remember who puts them out. If memory serves, they still didn't keep my girls dry all night.
Good luck getting her into her crib. I'm still trying to get me youngest out of my bed--and she's 2-1/2 now!!! But at least if you can keep her dry you can both get a good night's sleep.
Hope this helps,
K.

How much does your little girl weigh? My 14 mos. is in a size 4 diaper. He is 23 lbs. Could it be that Huggies just doesnt fit her right? Maybe it could be that the diaper is too big for her AND it doesnt fit her right. Have you tried other brands? I know when Jake has on a diaper that is too big, it definitely leaks! Or doesnt fit him around the legs properly. Good luck!

I know what you're going through. I had the same problem. I use pampers cruisers. They go for a long time before filling up and the have stretchy flex tabs. She should fit in them is she's a size four. They go up to a large weight I believe, so you can stay with them for a while. I do recommend, however, that you changer her even when she's sleeping. If she gets used to you doing it while she sleeps, you'll be able to do it all the time. The best thing to do though, is to make sure she's changed fresh after all liquids before bed to be on the safe side. Hope this helps.

Hi H.,
I have been brand loyal since I had my daughter, she will be 2 1/2 on July 29th. Anyway, I have always used Pampers cruisers and I have NEVER had a leak. She can go almost all day and although it will be sagging close to the ground, never a leak. (sometimes she just refuses to even let me change her so I think it must keep her feeling dry too. Good luck, hope that helps.

Hey H.,
My first thought was that a size 4 diaper is probably too big for a 9-month-old. Do they leak during the day or just at night?
Is she drinking or nursing before going to bed? You might want to try "filling her tank" around dinnertime (no later than 7), then offer a little water before bed if necessary. At this age, she should be eating some solid foods so she shouldn't need a bottle/nursing to go to sleep. Try cutting back on the fluids right before bedtime.
As for changing her during the night, you should be able to swap a wet diaper for a dry one without waking her - no fanfare, no wipes, no changing table, simply getting the wet diaper replaced. Check before you turn in for the night and if it's big or smelly, swap it out.
Huggies used to make a night time diaper. Is that still on the market?
As for the sleeping in your bed - get her in her own crib, the sooner the better! You will BOTH sleep much better, eventually (there will be a transition now that you are both accustomed to bed sharing). The longer you wait, the harder it will be.

I have twin boys that are 17 mos old and I can tell you that I never woke either one of them to change them. If they woke up for a change, ok but after many sleepless nights I wasnt about to wake them up & chance a sleeping issue. I thought too that, hmm maybe I was doing something wrong because my baby would wake up wet. Now I think back & say it is just a part of the deal to have a leaky diaper - but you're right to not wake her up. I tried a "lap pad" tucked in their pj's. That was a cheap, simple fix for us :-) Happy Parenting, V.

You didn't say if you were using the Supreme or regular, but to me the Supreme are cut too narrow in the croutch area. And 7yrs ago I would swear by Huggies (regular kind) when I used them on my daughter. Not anymore! I tried them on my son (he's 13 months) and would pee maybe 2 times and is leaking by the third!! And it isn't through the legs, it's through the diaper!! I use Pampers on him both Baby Dry and Cruisers and the only time he leaks is at night when he is starting to go into the next size up. My only suggestion is to play around with different brands and see what works best for the both of you. The good thing about store brands is they have a 100% satifaction so if you don't like them you can get your money back! (I've tried Luvs, White Cloud and Target brand but I keep going back to Pampers!)

first of all pampers are the best and also they make these pads you could put under where she sleeps so it doesn't get the sheets wet i think they are called leak guards or something like that but just remember pampers are the best and best of all you get points and get free stuff at pampers.com
