In Need of a Diaper That Won't Leak at Night

4 kids later, 3 which are boys...I must say Huggies worked best. Pampers & LUVS didn't work for me. You could use the rubber training pants over the diaper. I think that would work with any diaper. Good luck. G.

We had a lot of trouble with that, too, until we started putting on his nighttime diaper so it was higher in the front. Seemed like every time he leaked through it was soggy in the front but dry in the back, so we just repositioned it. I don't think we've had a leak since. Oh, and we use Huggies Ultra (or Supreme or something).

I have never once had a Pampers Swaddler or Cruiser leak on me. I've used them almost exclusively since my son was born. Give them a try :)

The best thing that we found were things called Diaper Doublers. They lay in the diaper (sort of like a maxi pad) and give an extra layer of absorption. It stopped our son's leaky diapers immediately. The only place we found them was Safeway which can be a bit inconvenient, but they're inexpensive at only $3 or $4 bucks for a package of I think 30...

I agree w/ the other lady costco diapers are great. Have you tried repositioning the diaper so it is more over the belly button, sence boy soak the front so much, most of the time is never has a chance to soak up the back of the diaper especially if they lay on there belly. I never bought them but there are overnight diapers just for the night time don't know who makes them though.
Another thought is to wait 30 mins after he has nursed or had a bottle then change his diaper before bed, that might help w/the overflowing diapers.

Oh and yet another thought similar to another lady's idea, use a peri pad, but instead of in the middle of the diaper put it across the top of the diaper (sticky side to the inside top of diaper long ways.) My theory on this is it will make a barrier for the pee cus there is never enough absorbansie at the very top of the diaper (wear boys need it most!) I wish i would have thought of this sooner, I might be trying this out on my son LOL.
I'm not sure it the ultra thins would work as well as the oldfashioned thicker ones.

Anyways good luck, stinky pee and cold wet clothes are no fun for baby or mom.

Hi, K.. I had the same problem when my 3-yr-old was that age. I found a package of Safeway brand "diaper inserts", around $3.99. When I got home and opened the package, to my surprise I discovered that they were simply "women's ultra thin maxi pads with wings"!!! Needless to say, I went out and bought WalMart brand ultra thin maxi pads (twice as many pads, for almost half the price)!! Let me know how that works out! CITA BARRY, Federal Way, ____@____.com

You can find extra absorbers to put into a diaper for night, but you might need to go to a specialty store to find them if your grocery store doesn't carry them. Babies R Us and the like should have them, but I have seen them at Safeway too. They aren't even that expensive.
Like it was stated before, "repositioning" helps a lot too! ( I have 3 boys... I remember! )

we normally use cloth diapers, but for the night we use Seventh Generation. You can find them in the organic section at Fred Meyers. Our son is such a heavy wetter, and they never leaked!!!

Since I am thrify, I would suggest trying the Maxi pad idea if you already have them in the house. THEN maybe asking for a diaper or two from any friends with kids similar size/age? That way you can try a couple for yourself without investing in a whole package.

If not, I too have had good experience with the Costco/Kirkland brand, Huggies and Pampers. Believe me, I have tried all the inexpensive ones without any luck. I think store brands are usually just as good but NOT when it comes to diapers. Cost wise, the diaper inserts might be a good solution but I have never needed them with the Costco diapers. AND finally, tucking him down doesn't cost a thing and might solve the problem without any other changes!

What diapers have you tried using? I've always used Huggies and have had no leaks with my daughter who has just turned two.

I've found that the Especially for Baby Supreme diapers from Toys R Us or Babies R Us works great. My daughter hasn't had any problems leaking through them and they're really affordable.

Hi, I have found that if I use the Target brand diapers, they always leak but Huggies Supreme never have. They are twice the price but worth it if you don't want to be changing the sheets everyday!

I use Pamper's Baby Dry.....AND no liquids 2 hours before bed time. Not giving your son a bottle at night might be hard but it is better than him waking up around 4. Just 2 hours made a huge difference with my son.....

I swear by Huggies Overnights. Since we've used those, we haven't had a single leakage problem.

I had this same problem and found that Huggies diapers worked better but not all the time. They have a wider waist? that seems to keep the side leaking down. I heard good things about the Huggies overnights but just couldnt fork out the money for them, instead I just expected to strip child and bed a few times a week. Good Luck, Jen

It really cracks me up how everyone has their favorites! We had this same problem with my son, and we found that the White Cloud Walmart diapers were the best, hands down. Cheap too. Huggies, Pampers, and Luvs really sucked. We didn't care for the Target brand either. Good luck!

This is different than the other answers, but have you tried using cloth diapers? I use Fuzzi Bunz and I double stuff the pocket at night. We've never had a leak.

try using the opposite sex diaper.

My son is 6 months old and wears a size 3 diaper. So far we have not had any trouble with the White Cloud diapers from Wal-Mart! The Parent Choice ones are a little bit smaller and he does leak out of them! GL

Hi K.! We have a 9 month old who has slept 10-12 hours a night since she was 6 weeks old...I know...we got REALLY lucky! We have been using Pampers brand since she was born...in the beginning it was the Pampers Swaddlers, and now it's the Pampers Cruisers with Catapiler Flex! When she went from the Swaddlers to the Cruisers, we bought Pampers and Huggies, brought them home and kind of "tested" them out for ourselves. We filled them up with water to see how much they could hold...I know, sounds silly...but we got the results we were looking for in the Pampers! They have NEVER done us wrong and our child sleeps through the night and has one HUGE wet diaper in the AM...without any leaking! Good luck!

I had the same situation with my daughter around 10months. I reasearched online and alot of the times it was due to me giving her too much liquid before bed. Try to cut back and not giving any liquids atleast an hour before bed. Get his milk and fluids in during the day so that you don't feel bad about not letting him drink anything before bed. Also, I use a great brand that you order online. Its through a friends company and I've never had a leak since I switched to them. It keeps her dry even when the diaper looks like it weighs a ton bcs I forgot to change her. They've been a lifesaver to me for those times when your in the car and just cannot get to a changing table and even though the diaper looks like it could explode I always make it. *knock on wood!* If your interested I could give you her website and contact info. They are inexpensive and feel great and durable. Price comparison wise they are the same price as whats already out there so I don't feel like Im paying a arm and a leg for some miracle diaper! That's a pretty good idea.

As far as brands, though - we absolutely HAD to use Pampers. Yes, they are the most expensive, but I guess there's good reason for that. We tried every other brand available, and EVERYTHING else leaked. Pampers are the way to go.

But I'd try that maxi-pad thing! I'm curious now...

we switched to Huggies overnites, little pricey but they work great!!!

I loved Pampers with my son. They never leaked. He was a skinny little guy so the regular pampers worked fine. If your son is a little chubbier, try the Pampers Cruisers (purple bags).

Huggies....All the way, my daughter used to fill her diaper up and pampers would even get damp but Huggies could hold it all! No more wet pajamas!

We had the same problem with our son (and sometimes still do). Although using the next size did sometimes work, the thing that really seemed to help was limiting liquids before bedtime. Of course this does depend on if you are breastfeeding, giving formula, or other liquids as a routine before bedtime. Good luck!

huggies has a overnight diaper thst works pretty well.. i had the same issue with my oldest but it wasnt only at night. huggies supremes work well too. pampers are horable at night, dont waste your money on them. C.

All i ever used and will ever use is huggies supreme. NEVER once had a leak... Never had a diaper RASH! they are a bit spendy but well worth it!

Have you tried Huggies overnights? They work well for us, although I don't use Huggies during the day... (pampers cruisers). If he is in size 3 they have the overnights at Toys R Us (not Babies R Us), for whatever reason the size 3 is hard to find...

i just had the same problem with my 2 year daughter and i tried the huggies overnight diapers and they seem to work well. its kind of a pain to buy special diapers but it saves me from doing laundry every day. well good luck

My daughter used to saturate too... only I would be changing 2 or 3 times... Then one day at the grocery store, i just picked up some nightime diapers, huggies I believe. They work great..

There are diaper doublers available at safeway to add to a disposable diaper for nighttime purposes. Also, if you would be willing to invest in a couple cloth diapers, I'd recommend bumgenius one size pocket diapers. This way you can use these at night hopefully until he is potty-trained and you can stuff them with as much stuff as you want (i'd recommend a cotton babies microterry insert as well as a hemp joey bunz). You can get all of these items online at cottonbabies.com or at Mother Nature's right here in town. Good luck!

I don't know if anyone answered the same but you might want to just try different diapers. Not all babies are the same and you may just need to try a few out until you find the right one. I personally don't think there is only one special diaper that will never leak. Like I said it all depends on the baby. Like my daughter leaked horribly out of Huggies. All kinds of huggies. We switched to pampers swaddlers and they did trick. As soon as she was more moble we went to pampers cruisers and she never has leaked since we switched. So again you just have to keep trying until you find the right diaper.

We had the same problem... I went to Huggies Supreme fit, and moved up a size. We didnt have the problem again. Now we have moved on to the new luvs... that are like the Pampers Cata. flex. They work wonderfully!
However.. some babies do well with other types of diapers. My sister in law swear by White Cloud. We tried them out... we had blow outs and leaks every time. They had a girl tho.. so maybe it is the diff. from where they pee.

There are night time diapers that worked for my grandchildren. Before they were big enough for those my daughter put 2 diapers on. And one time I found a thick absorbent pad that looked much like a menstrual pad but was made for extra absorption in a diaper and was shelved with diapers at Rite Aide. I didn't find it again. That gives me the idea to use a menstrual pad. Cut through the plastic bottom so that the urine will pass thru to the diaper.

We have the same problem with our baby who is now 11 months old. We tried using the next size up also and that didn't help much. We found that Pampers Swaddlers is made wider so it helps keep in the leaks. Even now that she is crawling and we use Pampers cruisers...we still at night use Pampers Swaddlers to help with the extra wet ones. Hope this helps!

I have always used Huggies. They are more expensive but you get what you pay for. I have never had any problems. In the morning the diaper can be sagging of his little butt from being so full but it didnt leak!

I found that the best diapers were the parents choice. They held more in my opinion than the name brand ones like pampers and huggies. They wee also a couple bucks cheaper. Even when my daughter would get an upset stomach it held more and kept it from leaking out the sides. I swear that if paretns choice mad pull ups I would be using them right now!

Target brand diapers work great we have not had any problems with them. Our bestfriend also has 2 boys and used them they never had problems either. Good luck

My mother in law told me that with her boys she would take one diaper and cut a slit down the middle of it and then wrapped a larger diaper around that one. I never had to try it but it worked for her when they had the same problem.

Huggies Overnites! I have to do the same thing with my little guy starting at 7 months through now and will probably keep on with it until he is potty trained. My little guy is 15 months old. They are at Target, Walmat (who has the best deal in a bigger package), and Fred Meyer.
You will have no more leaky diapers at 4 am. They work WONDERFULLY!!!

It all depends on your child however with both of mine LUVs has been the best, I personally HATE huggies, for my girls they never kept the bowel movements in. I swear by LUVs so good luck!

I have had a lot of success with Pampers. I would avoid Luvs, they are really terrible diapers. I just recently tried them after they claimed to have made the diaper better, but no only did we have problem with leaks, but baby got a diaper rash. Huggies was good for a fit, but my son was still leaking almost every night. If you go to Costco, the Kirkland diapers are really good too.

i like pampers... they seem to be able to hold alot of liquid and i like the stretchy sides.... i liked white cloud brand (walmart) when my daughter was younger.... very very absorbant, but the sides dont stretch so the fit wasnt that great for very long. but definitely pampers.

Hey my son who is also 7 months old almost 8 months he did the same thing for what seemed like forever. Its bad when your baby sleeps all night but you wake them up anyways to change their diaper. You should try the new huggies overnight diapers they work awsome and I've experimented quite a bit. Good luck!

I found pampers work the best I have a daughter but I remember my aunt telling me that when I changed her son's diaper to tuck him down so that he didn't leak I don't know if that will help or not this was a really long time ago he may have been a little older.
