I agree with using Dawn dish soap. If its really bad I will squirt it on the stain and put it in a bucket of water overnight before washing and this usually does the trick.
This may seem odd, but maybe someone knows of a trick they can pass on to me. M husband is a musician (brass player) and frequently gets dark grease spots on his dress shirts and pants from the valves on his instrument. I can never get these spots out in the wash. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
K.

Hi K.,
My grandmother's trick was to rub the grease spot with a little Crisco until it was out. Then use dish detergent and hot water to get the Crisco out. Weird and a lot of work, but it usually works on grease stains. I'm a chemist and it actually makes sense. Our 3 children are 10 1/2, 5 1/5, and 3 - a similiar split as yours. :-) Enjoy them!

use lestoil
you can get it at a hardware store. works for all grease stains
Dear K.,
I would try lighter fluid.

You can find laundry degreaser in the laundry section at a store. I've used Greased Lightning before, but the clothes have to be pretty sturdy.
Hi K.,
My Italian grandma used to swear by Lestoil for tough laundry stains like oil and black grease. Might be worth a try. Good luck!
Hi K., Try Shout Gel. You treat the shirt and then let it go for a couple of days before washing (you can leave it on for up to a week, but don't do that if the shirt is older). I have gotten broiler-hood grease out of oxford shirts with it as well as 2-yr-old set in formula stains! You can use it on colors as well as whites! Best wishes.
try some dawn dish soap. let it sit on the pants and the shirt. do not dry the clothes after. make sure the stains come out. another thing that may help is oxyclean mixed with the dawn dish soap.
Try a little Simple Green. Works on all stains!! I love it!
At Jo-Ann Fabric (not sure where else they carry it) they have this line of stain removers called Carbona. There are about 10-12 different formulas in little yellow bottles. I have used the grease removing one with great success. My experience with it was for food grease (I managed a pizzeria), but I am sure that there is something that will work for you. They aren't too expensive, the bottle is small, but you only use a little bit of the solution, and Jo-Ann has in-store flyers with 40% off coupons on them. Good luck!
I was having wonderful luck using Shout for greasy stains but I am having trouble finding it now. I have also had fairly good luck with Dawn dish soap. Good luck!
Goop hand cleaner has gotten out a lot of set in grease stains for me. I found Goop in the automotive section at Walmart. It is in a white tub.
Hi K.,
Have you tried Dawn dishwashing liquid? If that doesn't work, you may want to try a smidgen of lighter fluid on a cotton swab and lightly rub over it. Make sure to wash the clothes very well after trying that though. I know it works very well at removing gun oil from a brand new sofa that hadn't been in the house for even 2 weeks. Good luck!
