I have found that regular laundry detergent mixed with a little water in a spray bottle works just as well as that expensive pre-treat Shout type spray. Just spray it on and let it sit until you do laundry.
Well, my son got the promotion to Grill Cook (along with a raise)!! I am so proud of him!! He's pretty sure he's the youngest employee promoted to Grill Cook!! That will be his third raise; he's only been there a year! I told him pretty soon he's going to be running that place!! lol!! Scouts has really paid off!!
Anyways, my question.....now he's wearing a navy blue polo shirt and comes home every night with hot oil stains on the front. I've been using Shout-type stain removers and they work pretty well but I'm having to buy a bottle every other week!! At least that's how it feels. Is there anything that works better? I've sometimes had to treat the stains twice and re-wash the shirts. He tells me not to worry so much about it because they're really not that visible, but I can't stand sending my son out into the world with the stains. I'm just weird that way!!
At least when he was busser or working the hot/salad bar the white shirts were a little easier to keep clean. Thanks for any suggestions!!
Thanks everyone for all the great suggestions. Yes, the restaurant supplies aprons - he does wear the one around the waist that covers the bottom half; doesn't like the one that covers the top! Go figure!! Thank heavens they've at least given him three shirts so I have time in between the days he works to work on the stains. lol!!
Thank you!!!

"Zote" works nicely on cooking stains... my son is in culinary school, and that was recommended to him several years ago. It is a bar soap found in the laundry area. Our Walmart carries it....
Zote is a real "soap", not a detergent... that is why it works well on oil type stains, I believe.

We have it down here, anyway... I'm not sure about Ohio.
Liquid dish soap is supposed to cut grease.
My Mom swears by Lestoil-put it on the spot-use an old toothbrush-and, voila-no more grease spot! God bless your son and his wonderful work...and his inspiration...You!
I've heard that if you pour baby powder or talcum powder on a fresh stain and let it sit, it will soak up the oil. I haven't tried it, but it can't hurt.
Shaklee's Basic H2! It's amazing stuff!
Robin is correct, Lestoil works wonders. The talcum powder is when the stain has just been made. You pour a nice amount on the grease stain so it soaks it up. Leave it overnite, shake off and launder. This is for sudden stains, as you have to remove your shirt and let it sit, not really for your problem at hand. Why doesn't he just try an apron? Does his job not supply them? All restaurants do usually.
Whenever our clothes get a grease spot (say from hamburger dripping on you when you take a bite....), I just cover the spot with liquid Tide and throw it in the hamper. When I wash it, it comes out.
I don't know about the set in stains but if you treat it with Dawn dish soap when he comes home, it works wonders.
In the automotive department buy a tub of "goop". Use it on the grease stains. It has taken out some set in grease stains for me, but sometimes needs multiple applications.
Try some cheap shampoo.....that is what I pre-treat grease or oil stains with.......
