As a matter of fact I have a friend with 2 kidney stones right now. She has had a couplein te past and says depending on the siez it is quite painful. I know my husband was 12 when he had a kidney stone and he said it was the worst pain he ever felt before, he was hit by a car at 9, passing the stones was worse. have also heard the pain being compared to giving birth, if that is possible!!! Wish I had better news for you.
Take care

A friend told me that she had been advised to drink nothing but apple juice for 3 days. At the end of the third day drink a mixture of one cup of olive oil with juice of a fresh lemon added to it and lie on your right side for 15 minutes.

Wow! I feel like I just gave you the recipe for witches brew!!! lol :-) It worked for her and she painlessly passes stones. Before that, it had been a painful experience. There's probably more about this online. Good luck!!! Let us know what happens.

With all three of my kidney stones I drank lots of clear fluid. I was not allowed any food for about 3-4 days until I passed the stone. So far the easiest way I have found is to get drunk. When drinking you will pee more often helping pass the stone and when you are drunk you don't feel it when you pass the stone. The hangover is the worst part I think. My doctor actually recommended this. :)

I've had several. Hang in there, drink as much as you can handle because that will get it out quicker. As some other moms have said, the passing is not as bad as the transition between kidney and bladder. There is a lot of great advice here already, so I really just wanted to give my support because I know what you are going through.

Yes Yes Yes! I have had 3 kidney stones, 2 I passed on my own. Trust me, the pain is now. That little stone moving down your ureter is by far the most painful part. Once that puppy drops into your bladder, I doubt you will feel the physical "passing" of the stone (out the urethra). I didn't on any of mine. Oh, it was such a relief when it quit moving through my side! Good luck M.. I've been there & MAN do I feel ya!

I have a family history of stones, so knew I would get them sooner or later. Got my first one when my second child was 4 months old (I was 30). It was the worst pain I had ever felt. I really thought I might die. I had another one two weeks later. Then two more when I was preggo with #3 a year and a half later. The first one was the worst; the other two I just took some motrin and curled up in bed until passing them. I heard that they can come in little groups; you can go without an episode for years. It is better to save the stone for analysis (if you catch it in your urine), then you can do a better job preventing future ones. Good luck-hope you have less pain than is reported ;)

Dietary Attentions for the Kidney Stone Patient
Stone is caused by the metabolic disorder of colloid and crystal in the body, it is related to factors such as infection, nutritional metabolic disorder, foreign object in the urinary system, urine retention, geography and climate, etc. It is easy to get this disease for the male than the female. People more than 30 years old will get this kind of disease more easily than the young people. It is seldom for the children who have this kind of disease.
Change living and dietary habits can prevent and decrease the growth and attack of the stone. Kidney Stone includes many types. Once your doctor confirms the type of your stone, the following methods can help decrease the chance of recurrence:
1, Drink more water. No matter which type of stone the patient belongs to, the most important prevention is to increase water intake. Water can dilute urine liquid and prevent the high concentration salt and mineral from accumulation and forming stone. The suitable volume of water intake is up to make 2000ml urine liquid per day, this will be enough.
  2. Control the calcium intake. Some stones are formed by calcium or products contain calcium. If the main ingredient of your former stone is calcium, then, you should pay attention to the calcium intake. If you are taking Nutritional Supplements, first, you should consult the doctor whether it is necessary or not. Second, you should check the intake of food with high-calcium per day, including milk, cheese, cream, and other dairy products. Milk and antacid may cause kidney stone.
  3. Don’t take food contains oxalate. About 60% stones belong to calcium oxalate stone. Therefore, the patient should take limited food contains oxalate, including beans, beet, celery, chocolate, grape, green pepper, caraway, spinage, strawberry, and vegetable of kale borecole family. The patient should also avoid alcohol, caffeine, tea, chocolate, dried fig, mutton, drupe, green pepper, black tea, mawseed, etc.
  4. Have food contains rich vitamin A. Vitamin A is the necessary substance to keep the intima of urinary track healthy, it can also help prevent the occurrence of stone. For the healthy adult, they should take 5,000 IU vitamin A per day. A cup of carrot juice can supply 10,055 IU vitamin A. Other food contains rich vitamin A includes cauli-flower, apricot, casaba, pumpkin, beaf liver.
  5. Pay attention to protein intake. Kidney Stone connects directly with protein intake. Protein can cause uric acid, calcium, and phosphorus to appear in urine liquid, causing stone. If the person has ever had calcium stone, he should pay special attention to protein intake, especially for the person who has ever had too much uric acid or Cystine Stone. The patient should take 180g high-protein food, such as meat, cheese, chicken, and fish.

I have had 42 (and yes we know the cause of most of them-I have several AD;s)

Apple Juice NOT from concentrate, Expeller pressed if you can find it, Blueberry juice -not cocktail-and yes it is pricey, but it will help keep the secondary issues at bay and wash out bacteria

During the pain when you don't have pain pills cut a lemon in half, squeeze one half into 8 oz water and sip it every 15 minutes

Hope you feel better soon

i had some in college and before i got to the ER they had passed and the worst was over. i remember just pacing my dorm room sobbing, before i called a friend to take me to the hospital. it was excruciating, i won't lie to you. i couldn't even breathe without every movement hurting. i have heard it compared to childbirth (by it being called more painful than childbirth) but i had a c-section so i can't really tell you. i do know it was awful. they will give you pain killers if you-they opt to let it pass. i know there are surgeries and laser stuff they can do to break it up if need be, but i don't know anything about those options. i also know that care and prevention are similar to uti - cranberry juice, stay hydrated, etc. to this day (15 years later) if i am super stressed and don't drink enough water, not take care of myself, i still will occasionally feel a twinge there.

My mom passed one a couple of months ago. The most painful part was while the stone was in transit from the kidney to the bladder. She was sick with the pain all day, and finally went to the emergency room, not knowing what the problem was. Once she was on pain pills, she did fine. And she didn't even notice the final passage – she was supposed to strain her urine to capture the stone for evaluation, but she missed it.

Extremely painful - worse than child birth. Luckily my pain only last for about an hour and then it passed. If your pain is lasting longer than a day, contact your doctor as it may have to be surgically removed. You don't want any permanent damage to your kidneys to occur.

Good luck!

VERY painful. One of the things you HAVE to stay away from is sodas and make sure you're taking in plenty of WATER - at least 1/2 your body weight in ounces DAILY.

Sometimes they will lazor them/blast them apart, too, depending on the size and location.
