I haven't had kidney stones before, but my brother has. And there's a home remedy we have which takes care of them so that you don't have to pass them, they will just dissolve. Go to the grocery store and a six pack of coca cola, and a can of asparagus. Drink all six cans of coca cola in as little time as you possibly can and then eat the can of asparagus. It works every time. I know it doesn't sound pleasant, but it's ten times more pleasant than a kidney stone.

I'm sorry to hear you might have this problem. I've never had it, but I do know www.webmd.com is a good place to go and get information. Thats how I got alot of information on MS when I was told I had it. It will tell you what they do to treat things and such. I wish you alot of luck with this.

After my 3rd baby, I woke up in the middle of the night needing to puke. After a few hours of this, I was also having contraction-like pain, and eventually blood in my urine. The pain started mid back, moved down my back, then forward to be more like menstrual cramps. At this point, I went to the hospital. They did a CT and found I was full of sand-like kidney stones. I was sent home in a few hours, given pain killers, told to drink at least a gallon of water within a couple hours, and they were gone. Yea!

My husband gets them all the time. His were diagnosed by the pain and passing them. His sister recently had them for the first time. He doctors did some testing and hers were caused by lack of vitamin C in her diet. Both her and my husband are sensitive to citrus, so it could also be the reason my husband gets them so often. He is always drinking lots of water because of medications he's on. The doctors gave my sister-in-law some vitamin C. She was already concerned so they had her start on low doses and work up the amount slowly as she felt she was doing fine. She ended up having a sever reaction and breathing problems after increasing it later on (crazy as it sounds that could happen from vitamin C). I don't know how she is dealing with it now. Both her and my husband have always avoided eating or drinking much citrus because it gives them irritable bowel.

I did read that pumpkin seeds are very high in vitamin c, and they are not citrus like, so maybe that could be something to try. I did tell my sister-in-law about a Dr. Gott article in the newspaper I read about pumpkin seeds and other urinary and prostate problems.

This is a really good article on kidney stones from the American Urological Association.

Some people get kidney stones because they never drink water. Soda is one of the leading causes of stones. It robs your body of calcium so in order for your blood to have the nessasary calcium it needs to operate correctly, it will take calcium out of your bones, leading to osteoporosis, and stones. A diet that is acid based will allow the stones to start and since a person rarely drinks water, they stay in the kidneys instead of getting flushed out. There are several different kinds of stones and not all of them are calcium, but if you do get them, thers is a way to disslove them naturally. Drink 8 oz. of orange juice and put in one tablespoon of vinegar. Drink rapidly and wash it down with a little more juice. Do this twice a day for a week and see if they return. They should be gone!

First got them a year ago. I had woken up early one day and just sat in my basement. Out of no where My lower back started hurting. I figured it was from the way I had been sitting so I got up to stretch. No luck. I tried laying on my back so it would be straight to see if it would help any, again no luck. My mom was gone taking my sibilings to school, it was around 9am, so i had to wait till she got home. It ended up just getting worse and worse. I'm usually very laid back and can sit still without moving, well during this time, I was rolling around on the floor because constant movement was the only way to take even a fraction of the pain away. Mom got home and thought I just didn't feel good. Suddenly I just felt nausea hit me. She said she knew when I started vomiting, that I needed to go to the ER. Anyways, They get me there, get pain medicine in my system and nausea medicine because everytime I would just sit up I got sick. My pain was so severe they were giving me 2 to 3 times the dose someone my height/weight should have every 20 to 30 minutes because it was so bad. By now it was 11am and they decided I needed a CT scan. They said the results should be back within 30 minutes. Within 5 minutes they came in and told us. Got prescriptions, went home, slept all day only waking up to take meds. I've had them a few other times, but not as severe as the first.

I have had them twice and it is awful! The first time, I had cramping and pain in my lower back and it hurt to pee (like a UTI). It hurt so bad I couldn't even walk, my husband had to take me into the docs office. The second time, I started with a UTI and within a couple of hours, I started peeing blood and chunks (gross I know). Again I also had terrible pain in my mid to lower back and could barely walk. Even after getting it corrected I had pain in my kidneys for a few weeks. It is not something to mess with.

UGG I'm so sorry you think you may be going through this. At one point I had 16 stones between my two kidenys- a diet high in calcium can lead to them seeing as how kideny stones are made up of calcium but anyhow, I drank lots and lots of water, cranberry juice is great as well but that helps more to prevent UTI's but works for both, I had lots of cramping in my back and and the only diagnosis is an ultrasound. If they are to big they can use a special ultrasound to "break" them up so they pass easier-- good luck and feel better- Nicole

I knew I had kidney stones when I was pregnant with second son when I had blood in my urine. Then I would start getting low intensity to severe pain in my back. Lore tabs usually are the trick for the pain, but you have to pass them. Drink lots of fluids to help them come down faster. I got mine because of too much calcium (milk in my case).

i have passed kidney stones and had have to have them surgerically removed. and all i can say is the pain is worse than labor. i get the pain on my right back side just above the hips. it's almost like i have been hit with a golf ball in hte back. when the pain gets bad i end up at the doctors and having a cat scan done and a urine test. usually there is blood in the urine. the pain won't go away until the stone has passed and pain pills will help with the pain. good luck and hopefully if you do have stones you can pass them quickly and easily. the one i had to have surgery on to remove was 4ml and very jagged!!!

I had them in 2 of my 3 pregnancies , symptoms for me were contraction like pains , the pain built up and lasted for a minute or so and then died off and this was happening every couple of minutes , only differenece being the pain started in my side and went around to my back (rib level). So painful that in my 1st prenancy when the pain started (at 27 weeks) I thought I was going into labor. They should be able to do an ultrasound to see if you do have them , depending on how big they are they will decide what to do , mine were quite small even though they were painful , so I had to take OTC pain killers andd drink water , lot's of it all day to flush them through , the same applies if one has started to pass (this also really hurts). If they are big and you wouldn't be able to pass it then they can get rid of them , I think they use a laser but mine we so long ago I can't remember what they said.

I had kidney stones while I was pregnant with my 1st child. It was horrible and way worse than labor. The pain was in my back. I went to the hospital and they ran some test. I ended up passing them a few days later. The pain pill help a ton. If you think you have them, you should talk to your doctor.

I have had 2 kidney stones. I had lower back pain around the kidney area and blood in my urine. I went to the hospital and an ultrasound was done. That showed the kidney stones. Once the stones get to the bladder the pain and blood goes away, the hard part is getting them to the bladder. I drank lots of water and cranberry juice. I mixed the cranberry juice w/sprite too, just to give it a little fizz.

diagnoses confirmed after blood tests through a cat scan. different symptoms with my different stones. cramping, back pain in my lower back, doubled over in pain not moving. hurts to pee...the last one I just thought I had a UTI it wasn't as painful as they had been in the past.
drink cranberry juice and lots of fluids to pass--if it won't there are things the docs can do to either break them up with lasers or go in with a basket to take them out. I've had that happen. best prevention is water. if you never get dehydrated you won't make the stones...hopefully you don't have one but if you do I pray it passes quickly for you
