Chickpea sleeps with books. This isn't "accidental falling asleep reading a book". She actually keeps a few stashed in the bed. Not a battle worth fighting.
Last night my 2 yr old threw a fit when I took away the empty paper towel holder at bed time. So, guess what he ended up cuddling last night and asked for 1st thing this morning? Yep, his "spy scope."
He will carry the same coin around all day long and will only put it down to eat.

There is no "one" thing that is a must have for DS, but I find all sorts of treasures tucked in the "trunk" of his tricycle. string beans, candy wrappers, pretty stones, matchbox, wilted morning glories, an ernie finger puppet. It's rather cute.
Also, sometimes he has a penchant for having too many things in his hands/ arms all at once, but is "unable" to let any one thing go/ put any one thing down, for long enough to do a job properly. i.e. duplos, and a drill, and a sippy cup, all while trying to squeeze out toothpaste.
Love it.

My daughter used to alway carry around an electric toothbrush head. It fit perfectly into her hand, and she couldn't go anywhere without it. I am highly amused when I look at old pictures of her with that toothbrush in her hand. She used it as her magic wand, pretended to scrub the furniture with it, and just loved looking at it.
That phase lasted about six months (from around 18 months to two years old). One day, she lost the toothbrush, and wouldn't accept my new replacement head. She knew it wasn't the same one, because it was clean! After that, she didn't fixate on anything other than her stuffed toys.
My now grown son would carry around his gigantic dinosaur that was about 4 ft long head to tail. Went to bed every nite with it.
My kids never did this, but many of the kids I look after at work do. Some have the same lovey that they always drag around with them, others have a new one each week. Some are really bizarre, like an old shoe, or a spoon, a toothbrush, an old tv remote control etc.
My daughter is 3 and she carries around Woody from Toy Story. Everywhere we go, he goes! She has a Jessie that we bought for her, but she has latched on to Woody and thankfully my son who had it since he was 3 gave it to her.
She also always always has her "phone" in her pocket. Her phone is a flat dvd remote, lol. It was for the car dvd player but when that broke on our last road trip she claimed it. It's so small I am honestly surprised she hasn't lost it by now.
My daughter has all sorts of "pointy" toys in bed with her, not just the soft plushies and Panket (pink blanket). I'm serious, rocks, hard plastic figurines, zoobles, her littlest pet shop critters, all in bed. She wakes up with imprints.
Her thing is banishing something from her room at bed time. It's always something and never the same thing. Heaven forbid if I actually take it and put it away. It must be in the hallway in the morning when she wakes up. We refer to this phenomenon as "Boo Fung Shuay". No fuss, no explanation, just we hear her door open then close and find "someone" banished into the hallway.
That is so cute!
With my kids it has always just been blankets and stuffed animals, nothing too out of the ordinary. But those blankets and stuffed animals get dragged everywhere. We have to draw the line at the table and car.
I've been my son's primary attachment object until recently, so I've had my hand held a lot. No real cuddle-buddies or security blankets or anything of that nature.
Now, though, there is a Lego skeleton that goes with us everywhere in his pocket on the weekends. He's six and a half. I'm sure it will be something else he can't stand to leave home soon enough!
My six-year-old does this with coupons. She always has. If we get a coupon in the mail, she latches onto it.
My son, is like a little puppy who buries his favorite bones around the house.
LOL
He has, things like a little scrap of paper that his friend gave him, to a Hot Wheels car, to favorite stuffed animals, a flashlight, a random piece of broken crayon etc. under his pillow! But I put a little plastic box near his bed for him, to put it all in now. Because things were getting lost.
And the thing is, my son will REMEMBER each and every little thing, he puts there. And he still adores his lovey that he has had since he was 6 months old. He keeps track of it!
My son is 7.
Oh and yeah, my son has also had coins that he carried around all day. Or little rocks he found. Some so miniscule in size that I have no idea how he did not lose it!
Then coming home from school, he'll have stuff in his pockets that he and ALL his buddies collected from the school playground. He even had a rollie-poliie bug in there once. Wrapped in Kleenex.
And he'd be so excited about all that random "stuff" he had to show me. So cute....
We had to start putting it on the "night night" table. My oldest especially would cling on to some totally odd item and would want to sleep with it. But very often it was something that would not be safe or comfortable if rolled on top of or something very noisy that would terrify everyone if it were to be set off in the middle of the night. He had a small table in his room that we had him put things on or under if it didn't fit on top. He could then get it in the morning when he woke up. Worked extremely well.
My 5 yr old son has a tiny pink bead that he carries everywhere. I have no idea how he hasn't lost it yet. He also loves rocks and sticks. Occasionally, he even brings them to bed which has to be super uncomfortable.
My other two only have the typical blanket attachment.
