Jelly, Jelly on My Belly!

Let me say that I’m around 140 pounds, but I spent many years at 200-210 (I’m 5’3”). I’ve kept it off for over ten years now, so I don’t think it’s coming back. My pregnancy days are long gone. I work out 4-6 days per week (running 15-20 miles/week). I’ve tried P90x, Jillian Michaels, Billy Blanks, and more crunches, and plank work than I care to admit. I just can’t lose my belly roll. I’ve always suffered from low self-esteem and I’ve been extremely self-conscious my whole life (partially because I’ve been overweight for much of it). I’m hoping you won’t judge… I know that fixing what’s on my outside isn’t going to fix my internal issues. That said, this is something that I’ve considered exploring for over a decade.

Has anyone had experience with non-surgical belly fat removal? I’m seeing info about Laser Therapy, Injection Lipoysis, Ultrasonic Lipoysis, but it all seems too easy. Do these things work? Have any of you had an actual tummy tuck? Surgery doesn’t scare me (if that’s the only realistic solution), but I’m assuming it’s also the priciest. I can’t imagine that my insurance company cares about my spare tire. ;) Is it best to consult with an office specializing in plastic/cosmetic surgery? Are their specific credentials I should look for?

I used to think that I was decent at doing research, but I feel like the internet may actually be making it harder for me because there is SO much out there (and it’s hard to tell what’s “junk” sometimes). I know that my best option is to talk to my doctor, but I’m hoping to self-educate myself a bit before I discuss it with her. Thanks in advance for any suggestions! :)

What can I do next?

I agree with the response that 140 is too heavy for 5' 3". Also a hula hoop is great exercise for the middle:) I am a bit over 5' 5" and my doctor told me to aim for 140 or less. I still had the belly at 140 but now I am at 135 and it is gone. I had cholesterol issues too so my tactic was to cut out all trans fats that I could and reduce saturated fats as well. Good luck, you can do this!

J.,
First of all please disregard the posters who feel entitled to tell you that you still need to lose more weight.
Sometimes it's easy for perky little people to assume that their weight issues are the same as your weight issues, so I apologize FOR them. Some people have to rip others down in a veiled sort of way in order to build themselves up in their own left-handed-compliment way! LOL
You have achieved an AMAZING 70 POUND weight loss! KUDOS to you!
I don't have any info on Laser Therapy, Injection Lipoysis, Ultrasonic Lipoysis OR a tummy tuck but I think a good place to start asking questions is YOUR doctor. Your PCP or you OB/GYN. At the very least they can inform you of licensing requirements, etc.
I wish you all of the best in putting this "little demon" to rest once and for all!

What weird answers you have gotten. Can't help with the technical answers. I would try a counsultation with a trainer maybe? that might be cheaper, I know you have done a lot of that work but they might be able to help correct any issues if you are doing them a little bit wrong. and what would it hurt to consult with a tummy tuck surgeon. I would promise yourself that you had to wait at least 6 mo and maybe see at least 2 drs before you committed just so you were sure it was the best for you.

And most of all i say, way to Go!!! you should be so proud of yourself and feel so great to be in that tiny body of yours!!

Kudos to you for doing the work and keeping the weight off! I wish I could say the same!

I say do what you gotta do sister to make yourself happy.

I don't have a referral for you but I agree about talking to your Dr. and asking them for one. How about saving up some cash? If insurance won't pay, I am sure payment arrangements could be made, given you've got half to put down up front?!

I have also heard from many people that a rebounder (like a mini trampoline) is a great tool for that belly flat. I have only tried it once but I would like to try again. Good job in sticking with your workouts and loosing all that weight. I just started working out a few weeks ago more aggressively after walking was not enough. I am going to remember your success as I work out. I am terrified of trying one of the procedures you mentioned. I am still hopeful that I will get lucky and it will (the jelly fat) will go with it. Good luck to you.

i don't know much about the non-surgical options, but if you really want to do something, i would only research these. you have children to think of. any surgical procedure has risks. i worked with a woman whose niece went in for a routine tummy tuck. she came out of the surgery fine but then began to have breathing problems. they rushed her out of post op. about an hour later they came back and told her husband that she was dead. i don't mean to be a downer on something you've obviously put a lot of thought into. i just wanted to give you something to think about. good luck with your decision and i hope it all works out for you.
