IUD Removal & Periods

Hi all,
I had my IUD removed in Jan. so we could try for #2 and have not had a period yet. My doctor said that the majority of her patients start menstruating again within 4 months. (It can take that long for the lining to build up again). I'm not totally out of the "normal" range yet, but I wanted to hear what your experiences have been.

Even though I'm not bleeding, I could still be ovulating. The challenge is...I have absolutely no idea where I am in my cycle. We're having a good time trying, but a little window into what's going on would be nice. In the meantime, I'm taking pregnancy tests every couple of weeks or before certain activities (drinking, skiing) just to be sure.

I had some blood tests done earlier this week and am just waiting for the doctor's feedback now....

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all of your speedy replies. I had the mirena IUD. I'm not totally freaked out yet because when I stopped the pill (after 10 yrs) to get pregnant the first time, I did not have a period and got pregnant within 2 months. I've just heard of so many women that have a harder time the second time around...

It took us a full year after getting mine out. And with my first 2 kids, it was basicly the first try. My dr said about 6 months was when your body is more ready!

Get a home ovulation kit, they're like 40 bucks for a month. I had my IUD out March 22nd, the last day of my cycle, restarted my cycle immediately, ovulated and got pregnant March 29th.. It probably doesn't make you feel much better but I've only heard of a few people I know not getting their periods back within 2-3 months.. then when they did they were horrible but got pregnant soon after. Good luck!

I just had my IUD out on Friday and my doctor said 3-6 weeks until I get a period, so I was suprised to hear 4 months for you. You may want to give your OBGYN a call and ask the question again. Good luck!
