Hey, mommas. My husband and I are hoping to try for another baby within the next couple of months. I have an appt for my well woman this month and to have my IUD removed. I was wondering what I should expect as far as getting the IUD removed. Does it hurt as much as getting it put in? Do you immediately have a period? How long does it take to get your cycles back on track? The Dr. says I can try to get PG immediately. How long did it take you to get PG after having an IUD? TIA!

What can I do next?

I had my IUD (Mirena) removed Nov. 1. I had no period while it was in, and it took almost 2 months before I got my period. We are still waiting to get pregnant. I couldn't even feel when the dr. took it out. She just showed it to me and said that was it! It didn't hurt when it was put in for me, though, just a slight cramping feeling. Good luck!

Hey H.-

I had my IUD taken out in March 2008. It did not hurt at all, when it was removed. In about two weeks, I started my cycle. We too are trying to get pregnant. They said some women get pregnant as soon as 3 months after the IUD is taken out. I had some complications and am now on Femara. I don't think this had anything to do with the IUD though. Hope this little information helps you!

Mine was horribly infected, but having it removed was not a significant increase in pain over having it in and trying to move... so I'm guessing that without infection, it would have been similar to removing a tampon.

I had one when we first got married and that was four years ago. Once we were married I had it taken out cause he wanted to try to have children. It didnt hurt at all all you feel is alittle pressure like when you go in to get a pap smear. But it took us two years to get preggy. Now I don't know if why it took so long if it had to do with us not trying hard enough or what. But I got my cycle about two to three weeks afterwards and the doctor ask me to wait to try about three months so let my system get back to what it was before the IUD.

Good luck,

T.
