I had an IUD for a couple years before ever having children. When I wanted to get pregnant (about a year after its removal--I used other bc in the meantime) I had no problem, and I was 41 years old!

My friend had one too and had her taken out, the next month she got pregnant, I am not trying to scare you, but I know two people that had gotten pregnant after IUD removal. I just had mine removed too, but I just had to get mine replace after 5 years.

Just becareful, if you don't want to get pregnant make sure use other contraceptives.

Goodluck and Bless to you and your family.

Hi there - it is better to take a while for your uterus ro re-adjust. Remember the Mirena has hormones and it released hormones continuosly that is why it protected against getting preganant. I too had the Mirena and got pregnant too quickly, it ended up in miscarriage. Sometime you develop scar tissue if you had it for long so again it is better to "clean" your body of everything. A year later to the date, i concieved again and now have a beautiful 2 year old. Be patient and good things will happen.

Hi S.-
I had my first IUD for almost 3 years before I got pregnant with my daughter, now 2. It happened the first month. I am planning on getting this one out next month to start trying for #2. I love mine and have had no worries. Is there a reason you're worried? Is yours feeling OK? I don't think you should really feel it. I know it takes a few months for your periods to settle down, but I've never had any periods with mine. So if that's what's going on and your freaked, I wouldn't be.

Dearest S.,
I think both of us are in the same boat. I just had the Mirena removed beginning of March and I haven't gotten pregnant yet. Before when I was on the pill I would get pregnant within 1 month of stopping taking the pill. But now I don't know. I really thought I was pregnant at the beginning of April because I wasn't getting my period, but I would take the home pregnancy tests, and all 3 of them came back negative. I started to worry, but then I got my period mid April. I was really disappointed. I talked to a nurse practitioner at my dr's office and she said that it sometimes takes time to get pregnant again after taking Mirena. That some women get pregnant right away and with others it can take about 1yr. After that I got more depressed. I guess I'm just used to getting pregnant right away. Already mother of two girls, we're ready for our third child. I don't know what to tell you, except to wait and see. Sometimes people say the more you worry and try to get pregnant, the longer it actually takes to get pregnant. So my husband of 12 yrs and I are trying not to think about it and just keep trying. My only advice to you is that if you don't pregnant within a few months from the time you had the Mirena removed, is to visit your obgyn and have somes tests done. For both of you. That's what I plan to do. The dr also did say that the older you are especially over the age of 35, the more difficult it is to get pregnant. That the body goes through some changes at the age of 35. Good luck.

Hi S.,
You should really ask your Dr. or nurse, you can also check out thier website
www.MIRENA-us.com. I also have a mirena IUD and from what I understand it should not be a problem at all.
Good Luck

I didn't have a mirena, but had the copper IUD and it did cause some problems. I am sure mine is a very rare case though. I got pregnant with my first child with no problem. We got pregnant on the first month of trying. After her birth I got an IUD and had it in for 3 years. I had a lot of problems with the IUD. I had a lot of cramping, heavy bleeding, and recurrent yeast infections. After I got it out we started trying to get pregnant immediately. After a year of trying I saw a specialist and they found that I had cervical stenonis, which is a scarring of the cervical opening. I ended up having to do fertility treatments and on our last try I got pregnant! I am not saying in any way you will have problems, but if it is taking a while you should definitely seek help just to rule something like this out. Best of luck!

I am on my second round with the IUD. I got one after my second child and had it in for three and a half years. when I decided it was time for another child I got it taken out and three months later I was pregnant with my third. The doctors usually want you to have a period before you conceive again, and it will take a couple of months to get pregnant but it is way easier to get pregnant after an IUD than other forms of birth control. I always recommend the IUD, I LOVE IT! NO Periods!!!! E. C.

I had one and I got pregnant. It took awhile, but that wasn't the fault of the IUD!

I wore an IUD for the longest time (probably 6 years)and got pregnant twice after having it removed and have two beautiful boys one is 12 and other is 16. This was back when IUD probably weren't made as well as they are now. So no worries. Take a gentle yoga class (my classes are in Murrieta/Temecula at www.yogamurrieta.com. Get busy with other things and keep working on getting pregnant. Keep track of your ovulation and your fluid so you feel like you are in control more. Start thinking you will get pregnant and you will.

You'll be fine but it won't happen next week. Just get check out by your Gyn. Thank God it was for only 2 months. Those are the worst form of birth control EVER! Take nutrients to help you function at the cellular level and balance your hormones naturally for a healthy pregnancy when you do get pregnant. Please don't be worried abot that. One of the main attractions of the Mirena IUD is that it is easily reversible if you choose to become pregnant. This is not true of other contraceptives such as the pill. Everyone is different but most people who are on the pill for 5 years (the length of time the Mirena can stay in) have a longer time between the time they stop taking the pil and the time they conceive.
