Sounds weird, but the best remedy I found...Dab Mylanta liquid (I know it sounds weird!!) on the area with a cotton ball, then coat in Vaseline. It is like a miracle!
I heard that apparently using Lansinoh (pure lanolin) nipple cream for breastfeeding mothers can help to protect and heal a diaper rash. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this? I have used it for its original purpose as well as to help protect small dry patches of skin and what not but is it possible that it could be the key to healing a pesky diaper rash?
Thank you all for your advice and suggestions. I decided to try it out (the nipple cream) that is and lo and behold less than 24 hrs later her rash is doing soooo much better. Its not completely gone yet as it is still early but the cream did wonders to protect her skin and it doesnt seem to be bothering her in the slightest. I guess it is true.
Thank you all again for your help.

Yes.
But, make sure that the diaper rash is not a "Yeast Infection." If so, then only a yeast cream will get rid of it.
Not all diaper rashes are the same.
AND if baby has a diaper rash, they can also have oral yeast infection, called "Thrush." If so, then you need to get treated too (on your nipples).... or it will go back and forth between you and baby, and not go away.
For diapers rashes I LOVE LOVE LOVE "Burt's Bees Baby Bee" Diaper ointment. REALLY good stuff. All natural. Worked on my son super well. I even use it on itches/bug bites I get and keep a tube handy, even though my kids are out of diapers.
As long as the diaper rash isn't a yeast infection.
most lotions has lanolin.. i think it is safe.. try sudocrem its very effective... you can google it up...
Yes, it forms a pretty durable barrier between skin and moisture, and it moisturizes at the same time. I find it healing for all sorts of rashes and irritations on my fragile skin. It costs a bit more than most other ointments, though.
Breastmilk on a cotton pad also does wonders for diaper rash!
Anything that "coats" the bottom will reduce the chafing, so I'm sure it would work. Just make sure you keep separate tubes and don't mix them up!
I've used lanolin for chapped lips (since it's safe to eat & is found in lip balms), and for a sore thumb (baby's thumb was chapped from thumbsucking). But not for the baby's bottom.
But sure, it could work. Just make sure that you are either using a separate tube just for the butt, or washing your hands before and after you use the tube and anoint the bottom--you don't want to cross-contaminate your breasts with bacteria from the babies bottom!
Homemade "butt paste" is supposed to work wonders. You mix Maalox and Aquafor into a paste, and apply that to the bottom.
If you want to try something over the counter & not homemade, we had really good luck with Triple Paste. It combines the "good stuff" of both A&D Ointment & Desitin, and that is what worked for us.
No reason it couldn't be used for that purpose, lanolin is a moisturizer. No reason not to try it.
I never tried it for diaper rash, but I bet it would work. I used it on drool rash and it worked wonderfully.
