Is '2' Too Soon to Return to Work...

I have an interview this week for a job that would be very rewarding 'christian based and christian core purpose'. I have already been through part of the interview process so I am confident this is a great opportunity. However, I have stayed home and worked for our church ever since my daughter was born (almost 2 now). I am interested in a montessori school but don't know if '2' is too soon to put my daughter in someone else's care? She hasn't been in play groups etc. and I have always been there with her. This would be a hard decision either way, as we really could use the money.

So when do most start sending their kids to 'mother's day out' or 'montessori' or 'other care center' and for how long are the kids there (half day / full day)?

Trying to make the best decision for my daughter and family.

What can I do next?

Yes, I like what the lady above said....nothing is ever permanent. You could try it, as you seem excited about it, and see if it works.

If at all possible, though, I always think staying home and taking care of your child yourself is the best, if you can afford it.

Good luck to you.

S.,

I've done it both ways. My oldest went to daycare at only 8 weeks! I hated it but I needed the $ at the time. He is a well adjusted loving adult and had a great childhood. I stopped working when he was 3 to stay home. My second child went part-time to daycare for socialization at age 3. My point is there is no one way to do it and no two children are the same.

If going back to work is what you would like to do then definitely go for it. You can always change your mind AND one would think that if you are working for a religious organization they would be somewhat flexible to a Mothers schedule.

Best of Luck,
P.

My oldest was 8 weeks old when went to child care.
My youngest was close to a year old. I don't think there
is a perfect age. If you have to work or choose to
work, and it is the right environment, then it will be
fine. Staying at home isn't for everyone, if for money
or desire to work. Release the guilt and relax.

My daugther started in Montesorri on her second birthday and it was great. She started kindergarten at public school and was wonderfully advanced and well-socialized. My mom's advice is to work in the preschool years while they are napping and restricted in activities, then stay at home again when they are in school (especially teen years).
