My pediatrician always had me give my son Florastor Kids when he had digestive issues, etc.... According to the package, it was safe to use all time.... Not sure which kind you are using though.
Ive been giving my 6 month old probiotics for about a month now for various reasons. To help ward off the salmonella she had since she was 7 weeks, and to over all help her in health. I would like to keep giving it to her until she is at least a year. But I am not sure if this is ok. She is formula fed and is over all pretty healthy but I just want to give her something extra to help her out. I got the infant probiotics at the health food store and once I started giving it to her the weekly salmonella tests came back negative after a very very long stretch of positive results. Does anyone know anything about probiotics for infants? And is it ok to keep giving it to her?

I have been taking Probiotics for years and absolutely love the Florify brand. They are very effective, we feel great, and they are AFFORDABLE. I used to buy my probiotics at Whole Foods and tried a few different brands before I started taking Florify. And we all take them, including my little ones (for the girls I just open the capsule and dump it in a small glass of juice or milk or pour on a spoonful of applesauce). My girls have been getting probiotics this way since they stopped breastfeeding. Our doctor even encourages them!
I'd really suggest having the conversation with your pediatrician as the jury is still out on whether or not to recommend probiotics in the pediatric population.
I've tried to find large-scale clinical studies on the use of probiotics in children and infants, and I'm not finding the data to support pro or con its use.
Few pharmaceutical companies assess products in children under the age of 6 years (even fewer between 6 months-6 years) because of the possible implications of side effects. Many OTC products have not had rigorous clinical trials to assess safety and efficacy (effectiveness) but have active ingredients registered with the FDA.
As a mom, I'd personally seek the advice of my pediatrician (especially related to dosing) before administering. If they give you the green light, I'd say go for it.
Hi!
I have given both of my kids probiotics since they were infants. I used the Jarrow brand and i love it. My son had serious food allergies and it really helped his gut. They are now 6 and 3 and I swear by probiotics to boost their immune system. I would def keep giving them to her.
