We have cut out fruits per the pedi for a week starting yesterday and they are treating me as a precaution incase I am causing it through breastfeeding!

Teething caused my son to have severe yeast infections. My pedi said it was because of the acidity in the mouth when cutting teeth. The best thing I found was letting him be without a diaper as much as possible during that time. I remember how miserable he was during that time. I hope things get better soon!!

My son had thrush when he was 15 months old. The day I went to the pediatrician for it was the night I was planning on weaning him actually, and I never ended up getting it (thankfully). His went away in about two weeks while he was taking Nystatin(?). After it was gone, I continued to sterilize everything for probably another month. My doctor said that yeast is very hardy, meaning it can survive on anything and everything. I even sterilized his toothbrushes daily (I don't know if your son is old enough for those yet) My doctor also said that once you think it is gone, it usually comes back again. A website I saw recommended when you think it's gone, continue to give them the medication for five more days. It doesn't harm them to continue the meds for a little while longer. I gave him the solution like they recommended, but I would also dip a clean, sterile q-tip in the solution and rub it all over his gums.

Here is the website, it has some helpful information:

Good luck,

I also wanted to add that I started my son on probiotics also this month. I am thinking since he has had one thrush incident he can be susceptible to more in the future. It also helps with immunity and digestive health. I just bought Culturelle at Target in the Health section. They make one for infants and children.

Give him probiotics. You can look for foods that are high in probiotics, like yogurt, but I suggest taking supplemental probiotics. I have found that the Florify brand of probiotics is great and AFFORDABLE.

Hi V.,

He needs to be on a probiotic. My family stays on one and we use an excellent product and it's safe for infants. Go to the health store and talk to the manager. They go through a lot of training to know exactly which product would be best for your little one. Also, fruit is straight sugar, but so are a lot of other foods like white bread and white potatoes.

Yeast is one of the most common problems today and has become rampant because of the processing of our foods and the sugars in our diet. You can check yourself out by looking at your tongue. If it has a white coating on it, even slightly, then you have it as well. If it shows there then your entire body is eaten up with it and you need to take care of it immediately. What is the doctor treating you with? A probiotic/prebiotic would be best. There is also a product called Tanalbit from Intensive Nutrition but I don't know if it's something you can take while breastfeeding. It will remove all the yeast within 90 days. You can check their website. http://www.intensivenutrition.com/

Yeast weakens the immune system and opens up the possibility to many immune problems that create serious diseases and even weight gain. It's actually good you found this out now and you can keep it at bay.

God bless,

M.

Yes, the probiotics are a good thing. My daughter had a yeast-like infection at age 3, and the pedi blamed the soap in her bath and is having us use less. We don't usually scrub her clean anymore. Whatever falls on her while washing her hair is good enough. She also isn't supposed to play in her bath after washing unless we take all the water out and put clean water in.

She thinks our daughter has an allergic reaction to soap that was so bad, it caused an infection.

I tried all the Rx, I think we went through 3 of them, and it never seemed to go away. What finally worked was Motherlove Diaper Rash and Thrush. I used it on his bottom, and my nipples (different jars of course!), and it was gone in a few days. After that first time, we also introduced a probiotic along with the cream and it seemed to stop that much faster. Good luck.
