Hi B.,

My son goes to Salem Hills in IGH. He is in special education due to a speach problem and behavioral issues. They have bent over backwards to work with him and to help him learn. The only problem I have had in the 3 years he has been there is that they seem to want him to do all his work in school. Because of his behavior issues this is not always possible. At conferences the teacher told me she can not always spend the one on one time he requires and if the special ed teacher is busy she doesn't know what to do to get him to get his work done. I suggested that she send whatever is not completed home and we can do it. She had the deer in the headlights look on her face, like she never considered that I would be willing to help him at home! Sorry to ramble, but that is the only problem that I have had that I can think of.

Hi, B.

I live in SSP and I have 3 boys who have gone to school here all their lives. I also know a little about IGH. Can I ask what you have heard so far? The SSP High School is okay. I think the elementary schools are awesome. I think the high school leaves a little to be desired. I think as a parent you definitely have to be really involved to know whats going on. And you also have to be proactive and vocal about your wants and needs.

Hi B., we live in South St. Paul. My 6-year-old goes to kindergarten at Lincoln Center. He'd previously gone to preschool there as well. I think on the whole, we've had only wonderful experiences! He loves the school, and I had kept hearing great things about it. I've HEARD that IGH isn't as good of a school, but nothing specific. I've also heard that the high school lives little to be desired, but I was talking to my mom about that, and she pointed out that, by the time my kids go there, there could be different administration, teachers, etc, so it could be a whole different place. So I'm not too worried at this point.

Good luck!

We recently moved from the SSP school district to District 191. We have young children and only had direct experience with the ECFE program which I can tell you was much better at SSP then in 191 in my opinion. SSP ECFE offers more classes and takes in larger numbers of persons. The staff was very helpful. We also toured Kaposia elementary and were happy with the program there. The class size was only slightly larger than the private schools (Holy Trinity and St. John's) and the programs appeared to be relatively similar. However, the test scores at Holy Trinity and St. John's are higher. At the high school level, SSP's IB program is well-known. In fact, District 191 is looking to mimic the IB program offerred by SSP. However, as my husband and all three of his brothers (2 of whom recently graduated) can attest, there is a lot of bussing to SSP and with that comes a lot of social problems and negative influences.
