Ideas for Using Water Resistant Mattress Pad/ Waking up in a Puddle of Sweat !

Hi Ladies! My DH splurged and bought us a Tempurpedic matress for Christmas. We just love it, and I don't wake up anymore when he rolls around in the bed all night, which is great! This issue is that it was so expensive we want to keep it as nice as possible, so I bought a water resistant mattress pad for it (I bundle up at night in a big down comforter and I sweat a lot when I sleep-- sorry if TMI). It is a soft feeling one (from Company Store), but very waterproof. As might be expected, it keeps the sweat off the mattress by collecting it in a puddle underneath me! Not the greatest. Does anyone have a recommendation of some alternative resulting in a more 'breatheable" option? Thank you!

I hate sleeping in those foam mattresses because they make me sweaty. I had a pillow from tempurpedic once and my head was soaking wet after 1 night. Sleeping on a waterproof pad is just like sleeping on a plastic sheet: it will collect your sweat and pool it. I assume you have little ones sleeping with you that still pee in bed? Otherwise, just get a regular mattress pad. The more cottony cloth you can put between you and the plastic-like foam mattress will improve the airflow around your body. For my kids when they were going from diapers to underwear I bought a1 yard square mattress pad and put that under the area where their bums would be. Now you can also buy the incontinence pads that are about the same size and put those in the bum area.

If you have a Bobs Discount Furniture out there, they have an incredible waterproof mattress cover. I love it. Very inexpensive too. Like $20. We bought same mattress and use this. I have two Ostomies and can tell you it is wonderful. Try on line. If not I bet you could call a store and order one. Bobs has many locations in Connecticut.

I think it might be the combination of the down comforter and the waterproof pad. Down is supposed to prevent the heat from escaping. The idea is that your body doesn't have to work so hard to maintain its' temperature and you can sleep better. Ideally, you don't use any blankets or thick pajamas with a down comforter.

So, you are preventing the heat from escaping above you (down comforter) and also below you (waterproof pad and dense mattress) and you wake up drenched.

I would switch to 100% cotton everything- sheets, pajamas, mattress pad. The waterproof pad is generally overkill unless you have specific medical issues or small children wetting the bed. If you get a good quality thick all cotton pad, it will absorb most moisture.

I have a wated proof mattress cover that I bought with the mattress. It's like terry cloth on the top and coated with something on the reverse. It is not like the ones lined in plastic. It is thin, very pliable and soft. I put a regular cotton quilted one over the water proof one. The second one needs to be cotton because cotton absorbes sweat and other spills. If you only use the thin one there is nothing to absorb sweat, spills or other body fluids.

Just buy one from Amazon and read reviews. I just bought a mattress protector for my daughters new beds and read reviews to avoid this very thing. Can't remember what we bought, but you will be able to find what you are looking for this way.

I cover my kids beds with a plastic waterproof cover. Knowing that they can be very hot to sleep on, I put a quilted waterproof pad over it and it's much more comfortable for them to sleep on.

You need to put some other materials between you and the pad. So there is room for air. Change your sheets/launder then often so you can have clean ones each day if necessary.
