Hi ladies,
I am due with my second child in a few weeks and am having trouble coming up with a middle name. I am hoping some of you can help me with some ideas. Her name is going to be Khalan ______ Abreu (pronounced Kaylyn). Thanks in advance.
Thank you for your ideas. Some of you came up with some names that I really like for the middle name. Some of you asked about the spelling...it's something my husband disagree on. I love the name but not that spelling either. I want to add a y in there. He found the name in a book he read and that's how it was spelled. I agree that people will always pronounce it wrong.

My husband's family has a tradition of giving the first child the middle name of the parent. We had a girl, so she got my middle name as her middle name. Typically, it would've been my first name, but I liked my middle name for her better. Rose. So, my daughter's name is Bailey Rose. I would never have thought of that on my own. Sometimes traditions are good.
Khalan M. (as in Michelle, except with only one L ) Abreu
it has a nice sound
C.,
I too like the name Mariah.
Always tough to make a final decision. It's hard if your both not on board with the name, i think you should agree on the name/spelling. My oldest got her middle names ( yes,2 ) May ( i got preg in may) & Fern for my aunt that died right after i got preg. Emily May Fern. My youngest's middle name was after my husbands mother. Are there any special people in your life (past or present) that you'd like to name her for? I almost named her Delicia, i tried it out on a few people with negative responses. Are there any special people in your life (past or present) that you'd like to name her for? I think girls names are the hardest.

Good luck whatever you choose & congratulations!
Think about using the spelling that most people CAN pronounce without being told- "KAYLYN"

Best Wishes!!
in the book, did they give you the correct pronunciation? How does he know how it is supposed to be pronounced? Growing up having to spell your name over and over again for people is very very annoying. I still have to spell my last name for people and even my new married name needs to be spelled for people. Grrrr. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. People will definitely not pronounce her name the way you want them too. But it is better then someone spelling their kid's name La-a )pronounced Ladasha. True story!
added: There is a new show on Nick Jr. I think called Ni Hao Kai Lan. pronounced Kie Lan. I think people may pronounce Kahlan the say way.
Can I just ask why you're spelling Kailyn/Kaylyn that way? Who will know how to pronounce that? It's a beautiful name, but why such a difficult spelling that looks nothing like the pronunciation of Kailyn/Kaylyn? When I first read it I thought it was a variation on Kai-Lan, the character from TV (Nihao Kai Lan). None of her teachers will know how to pronounce it, nor will her doctors, nurses, driving instructors, a marriage officiant, nobody! Is there a family connection to the spelling?
(I promise I'm not trying to be rude or crude, I just wanted to ask). What about Khalin or Khalyn just so people know how to pronounce it with the same variation of spelling on the first half?
As far as the middle name, do you have a grandparent or great grandparent with a name you would like to use that would blend well?
Or how about:
Khalan Avery
Khalan Jade
Khalan Mackenzie
Khalan Arianna
Khalan Riley
Khalan Renee
Khalan Paige
Khalan Isabella
Good luck in choosing the perfect middle name! Congratulations on the new baby!
I think Marie sounds nice!
I like the name. How about...
Alana
Moira
Anna
Nora
C.,
What is your middle name. My daughters and I all have the same middle name. I love it that way.
D.
I would suggest something ending with an A to break up the name a little. What is the nationality of the name, that would help.

How about a family name- your maiden name, your mother's name, the father's name, a favorite aunt's name or cousin's name. Family names provide a connection for the child now and in later life.
Good luck.
I'd suggest something plain as a middle name that way as she gets older if she wants she can use that :)
I always liked the idea of a family name for a middle name- as a way to carry it on. My brothers each have one of my grandmothers' maiden names. My daughter has my
maiden name for a middle name. She's also my only child, and this way she also has the name that all her 1st cousins have as well!
I agree about the spelling/pronunciation issue. I'm one of a million Jennifers, and met another one in college whose parents thought they were being clever spelling her name Genipher. She said it was a nightmare her entire life, and even though she was part of the J. club, she had to constantly explain what her name was.
I like the suggestion of a single syllable middle name, sounds nice. Good Luck!
You've gotten some good suggestions already, but I love names so I feel compelled to weigh in. Since her first and last names each have two syllables, a one syllable middle name will give her full name a nice rhythm. Here are a few suggestions...

Whatever route you go, best wishes!
don't give her one. my husband doesn't have one.. if you can't come up with one, it's not important to have one. If you are catholic though, you will need to find a saint's name that is close to her's for baptism though.. or you can give her a saint's name as her middle name.. otherwise, there's no legal requirement for a middle name so you can skip it.
