I Need Help Finding a Doctor!

I moved to Vegas in July and I just found out that I am pregnant again! My closest friend has only negative things to say about doctors and hospitals in the area. (She had a wonderful home birth.) I am looking for someone that supports child birth without drugs and I am hoping someone can reccommend a great doctor. Also, I would like to know what hospitals people have had good experiences with. I want to bond with my baby before they are swept away for tests. Thanks.

What can I do next?

Well, she's not so off on many providers...nevada is not known for it's wonderful healthcare.

That said, there is some great providers, if you feel more comfortable in the hospital.Though las vegas is also lucky to have an array of trained and wonderful homebirth midwives.

Anyways:
Dr. Harter, who practices up in Summerlin is great with natural childbirth. HE's the only one in town who performs an induction method using no drugs. If I was to use an OB, it would be him.
I've heard some good things aobut Dr. Sauter, on Eastern, but that's only word of mouth.

But if i was in the east/henderson area I would hands down go with April Kermani, who has priviledges at De Lima. She's a CPM (hospital midwife) and she's also amazing, and works under Dr. Juarez.

As far as hospital, definately Summerlin or Delima. Delima hospital has now done waterbirths as well. The Delima campus is the older one of the st. roses, but they've turned to natural birth to attract clients. Both are quite open to natural moms, and see more of them as they are more friendly and accomodating. Also, the Lactation consultants for the ST. roses are highly trained, and great at what they do.

also check out www.birthyear.net for other resources for your birthing year.

Our next meeting is this upcoming friday. The website is not up to date, but the location for the meeting is the same, except the topic is postpartum, not celebrate your pregnancy. The directory will be up soon as well, and includes anything from midwives, doulas, CBE's, chiropractors specialized in pregnancy, massage therapist...etc

and congrats on your pregnancy!!

I was going to tell you about Birth Year Network but it looks like Marcy beat me to it....I ditto everything she saids.
I am Chiropractor and highly recommend you receive chiropractic treatment during your pregnancy. Not only will it ease pregnancy discomforts but it will help during labor time.
Congrats on your pregnancy!

I had my baby in October, and saw Dr. David Aberman throughout my pregnancy. He has offices on east Sahara and south Rainbow at Spring Valley. I LOVE him. He not once talked to me about taking drugs. When I needed to be induced because of high blood pressure, he said I could have a c section or vaginal birth, and recommended vaginal which was nice. I would recommend seeing him at Spring Valley because he is less busy there. Also, the hospital staff spoke highly of him.

L.,

I don't know what part of town you are in but my OB/Gyn is Karen Dalley. She's at Mountain View Medical Center (Cheyenne & Tenaya). I've been going to her for 15-odd years and she delivered both of my sons. My first was a c-section because he was breech and my second (3 weeks ago) was a VBAC and there aren't many doctors who are pro-VBAC. I opted for an epidural after they broke my water and it got excruciating but she was okay with it if I went drug free (she said it was completely up to me). I like her very much. I live in the Silverado Ranch area and I drive clear the heck over there to see her. LOL I delivered my first son at Summerlin Hospital and had a great experience. I delivered my second at Mountain View Hospital and I'd never go there again for anything. Incompetent administration and incompetent nurses and the place is DIRTY.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Hello L.,
Congrats!!! I had my baby natural. Dr. Kahle at Mt. View Medical Center had no problems with my choice. I had my daughter at Summerlin and he stopped by while I was in early labor and confirmed there was nothing he could do to assist me and I said no. He only asked once. I read up on other options and asked questions in which he answered. Some non epidural (sp) drugs that I had read about, he did not support and gave me reason. Summerlin has showers available, but once I was too far along, I had to stay in bed because they keep the baby monitor on you.

But...I must give a lot of the credit to my nursing staff at Summerlin. They were the real coaches. I had a Michelle, and a Shelly, and I can't remember the other name. They were great. I wanted to give up and the nurse talked to me and told me I had to keep going and told me to lock eyes with her and do what she tells me. So I did and soon we had a baby. They were all great!!!

I had read about using the birthing ball and showers, tubs, etc., but when it came time, I didn't care about all those plans, I just wanted a baby.

Well, that was my experience, I hope it helps. Wishing you the best!

C.

Hi,
There is wonderful organization here in town called Birth Year Network. It's devoted to all aspects of natural healthy childbirth. I am sure you can get referrals from BYN. BYN has monthly informational meetings, free to the public on various topics regarding pregnancy and postpartum. This Friday is on Postpartum. The website is birthyear.net. You can get the meeting information there. If you have any problems, send me an email ____@____.com and I'll send you a flier.

Dr. Nancy Long is great if you are in the south end of town. She is in Green Valley on Pecos/Robindale. The practice name is Associates for Womens Health.

I used her for both of my boys and can't say enough great things about her. I know she has privileges at St. Rose but I don't know if she prefers on campus over the other. Also I'm not sure about the whole natulral thing (I wouldn't think she would object, but you'd have to talk to her) since I had very high risk pregnancies and had to use meds.

Good Luck!
