First, a word on c-sections. Not just for you, but for all the women who posted on this thread, since I think every single one said they had a c-section (I also had one with my first, 2nd was a VBAC).
I volunteer for ICAN (Int'l Cesarean Awareness Network...http://ican-online.org) as the chapter leader for Southern Nevada. We have FREE monthly meetings near the St. Rose-San Martin hospital. Topics vary from VBAC to cesarean recovery to cesarean prevention and more. This month's topic is 'Breastfeeding After a Cesarean' with a very experienced and wonderful lactation consultant as our guest speaker. The meeting is TOMORROW (Thurs) morning (every 1st Thurs). Please call or email me if you're interested in attending.
You can absolutely go for a VBAC, if that's what you desire - even after two cesareans. Unfortunately, Vegas doesn't have a lot to offer when it comes to hospital VBACs. The doctors already mentioned are the main two I'm aware of who allow VBAC. They attend at Spring Valley and Summerlin. (UMC also allows VBAC) I've heard a few good things about two other OBs, but would prefer to disclose that info through a personal message, as I don't think they're wanting to put their names out there as VBAC-Friendly OBs.
SO, if you're wanting to go for a VBAC, DEFINITELY don't go to Southern Hills. I've not heard a ton of good stuff about that hospital, in general, but they've never done a VBAC that I've heard about.
I have heard quite a bit of positive feedback about Spring Valley, the nursing staff, Dr. Sauter, etc.
If you absolutely decide to have a repeat cesarean, then you'd want the most qualified OB/Surgeon you could get. I don't have quite as much info or recommendations for you in that case.
There ARE many homebirth midwives, ironically, who are very comfortable and experienced with VBAC in Las Vegas. Of course, some people feel this is a risky choice, but I put it out there just as another option, information. Most midwives, if not all, have free hour-long consultations, even if you're not going to have a homebirth. They're happy to answer any questions and are a great resource for any information on birth and our birthing community. I recommend at least talking with one or two, just to become educated and know your options. That way you can make truly informed decisions and not just do what one doc has told you to do.
I'm happy to talk with you further on any of these or other topics. This is my passion, to help educate women on their options for birthing. I'm not a certified professional (yet), but have plenty of recommendations on birth professionals to get you any help you might need.
Thank you,
N. Vickers
