H****roids

Ladies:

There is no polite way to discuss this, so here it comes. I am at 20 weeks with my first and having an awful time with hemmorroids. Sometimes, I experience light bleeding, othertimes, it is quite significant. Sometimes there is pain along the inside of my bottom, sometimes it is the roids themselves which are swollen tender and raw.

I am trying to increase the amount of water I drink, and the amount of fresh fruit and veg I eat. I have been taking fiber capsules (2 a day) and stool softeners (2 a day).

At this point it hurts to sit, it hurts to stand, it hurts to walk, it hurts to sleep, and it certainly hurts to make a movement.

Any recommendations for some respite? Anything to address the pain? Anything to address the swelling? Anything to address the bleeding?

Thanks.

1. When having a bowel movement, put your feet up on a little stool to take the pressure off of the rectum.

2. Collinsonia Root by Standard Process. I took this during my pregnancy when the hemorrhoids were just starting. They were gone in 4 days. Some of my friends have used this and it's safe for the baby, but it took soem of them a few weeks, depending ont he severity.

3. Kegel....strengthen up that muscle, otherwise when you are pushing that baby out, you're gonna push your butt out too. that muscle keeps everything up where they all belong.

4. MagChelate from Bio-Spec rocks. It also helped me sleep.

Sit in a bathtub of warm water or you could ask your dr for something called a "sitz bath"- that is the only way to decrease the swelling. You need to get some OTC cream and witch hazel wipes. Keep up the stool softener- it will help. If you are struggling now, be prepared for after birth. Talk to your doctor at your next appointment- there is no reason for you to be in so much pain.

I've tried the increasing fiber route - makes you go more so you're burning an already raw area. Tucks pads (or witchhazel soaked wipes) burn and don't clean well because it's raw and tender to begin with and you're adding a drying agent to the problem. Injectable medications - I ended up with a chemical burn that peeled the entire nether region so I refuse to recommend medication that you spray on or in. Suppositories and Prep H do nothing but make your bum feel slimy and just try to get a suppository in when you have a roid blocking.

From years of experience nothing works better than plain old zinc oxide. It doesn't burn to apply, coats the area and stays on, and soothes the chaffing so they can shrink. There's no smell, no prescription, no increase in bowel movements, and if you use it on a baby's butt, you know it's safe for your own!

Use a panty liner to keep your panties from getting ruined. The white doesn't wash out.

Honey, I'm so sorry you are miserable. Thankfully, this is not a problem I've had (I hope I never do--it sounds awful), but I can tell you that I've used the site earthclinic.com for lots of different health issues. It's great because people from all over the world write in to say what worked for them.

Best wishes and blessings
PS I don't know a darn thing about this site, but I did find mention of treating your painful condition with iodine in flaxseed oil. I don't know if this helps, but here's the link:
http://www.tahomaclinic.com/iodide.shtml

Check it out and see if it helps--seems like it would.

My doc had me take fiber...metamucil b/c that will help with repeatedly "hurting" yourself. It soften the stools and keeps everything bound and moving. I used the capusule s- TOUGH to get down but I didn't want the additives in the flavored powder. Once you stop repeatedly hurting yourself everytime you go the symptoms will ease up. Also an OTC cream or ointment like preparation H helps.

OMG, I have so been there! Everything people have suggested I would suggest. The round pillow from the medical store helped (I even used it in the car). Metimucil helped a lot too. After the baby was born my doctor gave me a prescription cream that was topical. They were gone in two days! Sorry, don't remember the name, but your ob/gyn should know. Good luck and congrats on your little person soon to be :o)

I agree with H HIN TX. I Still use wicth hazel for those painful buggers! And it does help w/ swollening and the burnning. Don't wipe hard just pat. Because you will just make things worse. I hate that this is so painful for you. Hopr e this works for you. Oh I forgot you can et it at more grocery stores for about $3-$4's, in HBA dept.

My son is 10 and I still have the 'roids! Mostly they are pretty shrunk, but if I eat too much salty food and for some reason, when I have my period, they flare up!

Anyway, I recommend Tucks medicated pads! Just pad the area, while you're sleeping, etc or even during the day. They soothe them and keep them from rubbing. I also recommend Fiber One cereal to keep things moving and less swollen! Don't be afraid to use a mild over the counter laxative if your doctor approves it as well. I usually mix the Fiber One with some kashi or Special K and it's very crunchy and good.

Good luck!

I got mine removed in Feb...what a relief!!! All the advice already given are super, I'll add: get soluble fibers to your diet, such as psyllium (it's not the name of the drug, it's the actual fiber), lots of it, it makes your stool soft and forces you to drink more because you take it with liquids. I take one portion every day (post-surgery) and It works well. Also, sit down on the toilet only when you really are ready to go, do not sit there and read while waiting to have the b/m...too much pressure down there. Hope you can find some solution now, but my advice is to DEFINITELY get them removed after you give birth. If I were to give birth again I know I would totally ask the doctor to fix the problem (if possible) right on the spot...non reason to go home with that!!!

I've heard witch hazel can help relieve some of the pain. It's usually on the shelf near the rubbing alchol and you'll also need some round cosmetic pads to apply.

If they're that bad, you should have your doctor take a look at them.

Hubby had hemroids so bad he had to go directly from the doctors office to the hospital for out patient emergency surgery.

oh the joy of being pregnant. i was lucky enouht to get them to when i was pregnant. i used the hemroid cream and witch hazel pads. that really helped. i also used baby wipes instead of toilet paper. it took about a week then they were gone. the sad part is that if you get them when you are pregnant you are more likely to get them after the pregnancy to. good luck. i hope you feel better.

Did you try Ducalax (sp)? I believe it's the only thing recommended for pregnant woman. I took one everyday. You can buy it at Walgreens/CVS or any store. You can also add a little bit of preperation H (clear stuff, not the cream) - it will help with the swelling and help slide it out without tearing you anymore.

Talk to your ob. He/she should be able to tell you you can use Ducalax.

I had the same issue when i was pregnant and I got a prescription cream from my doctor. It's very common in pregnancy and the cream is safe and will really help. Call your doctor because I don't think anything over the counter will work as well. Good luck!

Lots of good advice here. The best advice is the "sitz bath". You can buy one at most drug stores. It's a pan that fits on the toilet and you fill it was warm water and sit in/on it. And NEVER wipe with toilet paper. I found a squeeze bottle filled with warm water works very well for cleaning the area, then pat dry with a soft cloth. And talk to your doctor about some meds/cream to help alleviate the swelling. Also, ask the doctor if he can remove them after having the baby. It's inevitable they will get worse during delivery.

Haven't read the other responses so sorry about any repeats.

Also, so sorry you are going through this and I totally feel your pain. I had rroids when I was pregnant with both kids. Definitely NOT fun!!!!

When pregnant with my daughter, I called the nurse and she gave me a prescription for this stuff that you kind of inject in there (sorry, gross I know). After a few days they got better.

When pregnant with my son I had one that was so huge and so painful I couldn't walk. I continuously put OTC cream on it and had to lay down for several hours. That really helped a lot.

Another thing that helps are rroid wipes....they feel so much better to wipe with than toilet paper. They are also medicated so they help with the swelling. For a while, everytime you go to the bathroom you could wipe with unscented babywipes. That feels better and iss much more soothing than toilet paper.

Good luck!

I hope you discussed this with your Dr.!! For some relief you can try the hemmroid pads. which are basically witch hazel soaked pads you put on your sore area. Also warm baths. You really should see your Gyn though.
Best of luck to you and your baby!
