Hi moms,

I have never had a hemroid before and I got one while I was pushing my son out a few days ago. I guess it is pretty big but it isn't bothering me too much, yet. Guess I am afraid once my tear heals that I will notice it more. Does anyone know about how long it takes for it to go away? I am just looking forward to getting back to normal.

Thanks for any help!

So What Happened?

Thank you to everyone with their positive notes and advice. I used the tucks and kept it clean and I am already feeling 75% better.

Thanks again!

I had the same thing happen to me, I had my daughter almost three years ago and I still have them. Just went to the doctor to get them removed which they won't do because I am too young. The did give me a cream so we will see if that works. But they did say drink lots of water and eat a high fiber diet. Good luck, enjoy that new baby. Seeing his smiling face will help with the pain.

You are not alone. My ob/gyn told me always use wipes after a BM... so here I am several years later and I still buy baby wipes (I like them better than the adult ones and they are less expensive).

My daughter is now 2 and I got a hemrroid when I had her...and I still have it now. I tore really badly too so the healing of both was very painful. I still have issues with my hemrroid bleeding after a semi-constapated bowl movement. Unfortunately you may deal with them for a long time. Use the preparation H wipes to clean yourself and the tucks pads to "cool" the burning/itching. It will get better!

Drink plenty of fluids and bed rest. Within a week everything was back to normal!! Good Luck!
Do you live close to Hyde Park there is a great doc, at the Unversity of Chicago for the new baby!!

The pain will go away, but the skin may remain...mine did. :o( Now they are called "tags" and will have to be removed after the next baby. Ahhhh, the joys of motherhood.

Over the counter cream can be used. Don't let the hemhroid get dry or you'll get a lot of sharp burning pain. Apply cream and gently push back in where it belongs..it'll suck right back up there. Make sure you don't get constipated or it'll just keep popping out.

I also had mine from pushing out 8lb. 9oz. boy. I used a stool softener for several weeks (a couple of months) and now it is gone. Every once in awhile it is bothersome but not daily like before.

I think everyone is giving some wonderful advise. I have been suffering with mine for about 2.5 years it started when I was pregnant. The things I have found that have kept it at bay are high fiber diet, drinking plenty of water, and preperation H. I haven't had any issues with it for about a month now that I upped my fiber a bit more.

Make sure you are getting at least 20g fiber.

I had this with my son and it freaked me out because I didn't know what it was and no amount of Prep H helped (I had an idea). I went to the doctor and he prescribed some expensive but miraculous foam medicine and it healed in two days. Sitz baths are suppose to help as well as the other good advice the other ladies mentioned. But if it's very painful I would go to your ob-gyn.

I too got my first (and only) hemorrhoid when I had my daughter. I think it lasted a few months. Just make sure you clean the area really good.

Ever since pushing for 2 hours with my first baby five years ago, i have "issues" down there. Post partum, you are getting great advice, dab area with witch hazel (cheaper than buying tucks pads) and use prep H and you will get relief, it may seem like it takes a while though. Down the line, you risk recurrence with all bouts of constipation, so make sure to STAY REGULAR. Prunes, activia yogurt, etc. all help. I can't stress that enough, whenever I get lax with the fiber or let myself get constipated, I get a little flareup, though the episodes are MUCH milder and shorter in duration as time goes by. So there is hope!!!!

Luckily I don't have personal experience with this, but a good friend of mine got them 8 years ago when her son was born and... she still has them. She went to see a specialist about them, but they said they weren't quite bad enough for surgery, that she'd just have to deal with them.

Hope yours are different & go away!

Good luck...

I had one after having my daughter last summer. NOT fun. It bothered me on occasion for about 5 months (though not most days) and I don't think I've noticed it for a long time now. Make sure you eat a high fiber diet to keep things moving and it should resolve itself.

Congrats on your new baby! You will feel so so much better 2 weeks from now... all the aches and pains take some time to disappear.

Oh - and like others have suggested... take the stool softener for a couple weeks. You'll be glad ;)

Ugh - this was the worst part of having my first baby. I pushed for a long time and was thus blessed with several huge hemmies (I had never had them before, either). They did go away after two weeks or so. If it is bothering you there are all sorts of OTC things you can buy to help relieve the discomfort - wipes, creams, etc. Be warned - you might now have them in the future, too - I did! Congrats on your new baby!

Most likely it will recede and you will be fine...Eat healthfully and keep everything 'loose' with fig bars, raisin bran and prune juice etc...If it itches a little Preparation H will be good too. They say that cool tea bags applied to the area will releive discomfort...
Congrats on your great life and family!

Hi Jen,

Congratulations, first of all, on the birth of your son.

The time it takes to heal, I have seen, varies from person to person. What you could do to speed up the healing process :
1. Eat food with good fiber content
2. Keep well hydrated
3. Keep the area clean. You could use any medicated pad with Witch Hazel to clean the area. Witch Hazel seems to have the ability to heal hemorroids. You could buy this at any pharmacy. - http://www.tucksbrand.com/medicated-pads

Hope this helps, and take care.

COngrats to you and your family!!! The hems are the worst after math, in my opinion. They'll get smaller and disappear (if they haven't by this post). Good luck to you. A lot of the previous recommendations echo my sentiments.
