How Long Did It Take You to Get Pregnant After You Had Your Mirena IUD Removed?

I just recently got my IUD removed in hopes to have another child. I am curious to find out how long it took other women to get pregnant after the Mirena was taken out. Also, did you have any bad cramping or bleeding after removal? Thanks for any advice.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for sharing their own experiences with the Mirena IUD. It is reassuring to see that most people had no problems getting pregnant after it was removed. I hope the same is true for myself. Wish me luck! If anyone else has any more advice, please do share it!

I had the copper IUD before my 3 yo, and concieved after 1 cycle. Then had the Minera before my 1 yo, and concieved within 3 months. Good luck! As for the cramping, I thought it was worst going in than coming out.

No cramping - no bleeding and my midwife said that it could take anywhere from 3-months to a year. It only took 2 1/2 weeks after she took it out. Good Luck!

Between my son and daughter there as a little under 4 years. I had the Mirena removed in February we didn't "try" per se for March, A., May, in June I really paid attention to ovulation and I was pregnant with my daughter by the end of June.
I didn't experience any cramping or anything after removal, but was bummed about the return of a regular period.:) Mine was pretty light to non-existant while on the Mirena.

I waited 2 months after it was taken out before trying to get pregnant again, and then it only took 1 or 2 cycles.

Your doctor should have told you the average time is 3 months (also stated on the Mirena website), BUT it can be shorter! Just be patient and don't give up. It took us three months almost to the day and I thought somethign was wrong with my (my other two kiddos were conceived on one night of no protection - I'm a fertile mertle). I was also under a ton of stress with school, work, and two moves. My friend also had hers taken out and she was pregnant in two months. I think it's safe to safe anywhere from the day it is out up to three months. Every forum I scoured and the websites had similiar stories.

Also I did cramp for a day and pretty much had a period for about 3 days after it was taken out.

I don't remember if I had cramps or not; if I did they weren't that bad. I had a few days of bleeding a couple weeks later; then I got my period a couple weeks after that. I've been regular since. No pregnancy, but we're not trying.

Hi J.,
I waited 1 month after the removal of my Mirena and before trying to get pregnant as prescribed by my OB. Apparently the mirena thins the uterus wall, after that I got pregnant right away!

I only had my IUD in for 6-9 months (I can't remember when it was put in!), but I had it taken out right before my wedding (which was April 27th) and my first missed period was May 15th!! It definitely didn't take long for me! But I must note that I have always gotten pregnant pretty easily.
I did have A LOT of bleeding for about a day about 2 days after having it taken out.
Good Luck! :-)

I had some very slight cramping and a tiny bit of spotting and we got pregnant two months after it was taken out. It was actually faster then my two previous attempts at getting pregnant after stopping the pill. Everything seemed to go quite smoothly, uneventful pregnancy, and a healthy baby.Good luck!

Hey J.,
I had a hard time w/ my IUD. I had it in for just over a year and the last 5 months of it in, were really uncomfortable. I know this is my own experience and I hope that yours is different but I had to go in because it was causing a lot of discomfort and cramping. I had really intense periods for the next 2 months and it took us about 6 months upon removal to get pregnant. Hopefully yours will be a different experience and you'll get pregnant as soon as you want.
PS-We LOVE camping and have similar beliefs as you mentioned....did you camp at any good spots this summer?
Thanks!
M.
