How Long After Having Baby....

Hello moms! I'm not really concerned, but I'm wondering in general... how long should it take after having your baby to get your period? I had our second baby at the end of January and breast fed her about 6 weeks. I kind of expected to get my period not long after that, but I haven't seen good ole 'Flo' yet! Not that I'm complaning.... After our first baby I had some issues with blood loss after my uterus basically exhausted itself. Seems like there was a discharge of some kind for weeks after that! The second time around, however, has me a little stumped -- everything was so different from pregnancy to labor. I haven't asked my doctor about it -- like I said, I'm not really worried about it, just wondering. Thanks for any thoughts or comments!

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the responses, ladies. It's nice to know that I'm 'normal' in one way! lol... I did forget to mention that I had my tubes tied after the second c-section, so chances of being pregnant would be slim! I am NOT pregnant -- just for verification. :o) I guess I will just enjoy the 'freedom', like you said. Thanks again!

after my most recent daughter's birth, I agree with you it seemed like I had discharge for weeks after... but once it stopped from that, I breast feed for close to 8 months, and then Flo came back about a month after that - but I can't remember what happened with my first child. I wouldn't worry about it too much either though - just enjoy!

just curious though - could you have gotten pregnant again?

I haven't had mine since before I got pregnant with my first child..which was November 2006. I have had 2 kids since then (last one was 4 weeks ago) so that goes to show you that you can get pregnant even when you don't have a period. Went to the Dr. after I didn't get it after I stopped breastfeeding my 2nd child and she said it was fine so just enjoy no periods! and make sure you're not pregnant!

I get mine back somewhere between 2 or 3 months after birth, that's with nursing. It's happened with both kids. If you've been breastfeeding for a bit it might be a month or two before you see your period. But don't worry, it'll return!

It sounds like you quit nursing mid-March- I can't remember how long it took after we weaned, but it sure seems like 6-8 weeks.

I got mine about 7 weeks after giving birth. I only breastfed for about 3 weeks though and then my milk was gone. With my son it was even quicker and i breastfed for about a month or so with him before my milk was gone. I would say if there is a chance you could be pregnant check that first. If not then maybe just call your doctor and see what they say.

I second Sally...any chance you could be pregnant? Might be worth the cost of a home pregnancy test to be sure.

Every woman resumes menstruation at a different time. I was breastfeeding and managed to avoid mine until a month after her first birthday. I was still nursing, but had stopped pumping at work when she turned a year.

Not having your period DOES NOT mean you can't get pregnant. You could very well still be ovulating.

I got my first period about 6-7 weeks after giving birth, about the first day I went back to work. I was not breastfeeding. When my sister didn't get her first period after about 8 weeks, she called her OB to make an appointment. The nurse told her to take a home pregnancy test first. Turns out she was pregnant. I'm not trying to freak you out, but just a possiblity.

My son is 10 months old and I have not had my period yet. I am certain I am not pregnant either. I have been nursing since he was born. He started solids when he was about 5 months old. I have only been nursing on one side for the last month and a half because he was no longer interested in nursing on the second side, and is satisfied with what he gets from the one. I'm not too worried about it and I'm enjoying my "freedom" for now :)
