How Do You Find a Headhunter?

I've been with my company for over 7 years. They are turning more and more hostile towards working parents and are not family freindly as advertised. I want to start searching for something different. How do I find a head hunter in my area/field? Thanks.

What can I do next?

Are you involved in any professional associations? Those are a great place to start. Most will have listings on their websites of recruiters in the industry. Some associations will endorse particular recruiters, too.

Also, ask around. Talk to others in your field and ask if they've used a recruiter before.

If all else fails, you can look online or in the phone book to locate ones serving your field. Then, contact them and get a sense of what you think. You can often get a good impression just by your initial interactions with a firm -- whether staff are friendly, whether your calls are returned promptly, etc.

Good luck!

Lots of good advice here. But one thing I want to mention. Headhunters most often work for companies, not for you. They are contracted by companies to find a person for X position, not to go out and find a position that fits you. Keep this in mind in salary negotiations. Avoid sharing your current salary at all costs, if you can't get around it, you will be offered a salary based on your current one. Just some thoughts. Linked in is the best thing to happen to professional networking in a very long time. My husband is constantly being called for interest in positions, or recommendations for someone.

Perhaps googling "recruiter" or "recruiting firm" followed by your area of employment and geographic area?
