I am new to Mamapedia, but a friend of mine has been a user for some time. She recommended this sight and said that the ladies (and men) on this sight are great at answering questions.
My husband is looking for a new job. We would like to relocate to the Southwest, but job advancement is the number one goal. He has searched on-line, with no luck. He was trying to do this privately. It was recommended, to him, that he pay for a head hunter. We are good with that. He is in the 6 figure range and has degrees, so he is not just looking for any job. How do you go about finding a head hunter, that is out of state, that can help you achive your goal of advancement and relocation? Does anyone out there have a head hunter that they would recommend? He would want to interview the head hunter himself, so more than one suggestion would be very helpful. Leaving Illinois is top on the wish list, for him, when finding a new job, so a local head hunter would not be helpful. The Southwest region is where we would like to be, but not a deal breaker. We do not wish to move to a climate that is colder than Chicago, so Alaska is definitely out! :)
I cannot give out information here as far as his line of work. I don't think that is necessary information, to put out there, at this point. He is in upper management, so he would more than likely lose his job if they knew that he was looking. He cannot ask friends, as a friend is in an upper level position at his company as well. ***Ok, I guess I should have added that his HR person (from current job) looks on all job sights constantly. He is supposedly looking for new employees but its definitely just as much about patroling current employees. Hubby is on, but not as someone looking for employment. It is really important that this not be "public" knowledge, that's why I am looking for a name and not so much a site that he would have to post his resume on. When he was looking on-line he only sent his resume directly to the company that was looking. That is not always possible, so he would skip it. He cannot be "seen" out there looking.
A good head hunter won't charge you, they will charge the company. Linked in is a good idea. I'm in the HR field so I can see what names I can get.
Has he put his profile up on LinkedIn? My husband just put his up 2 months ago and has already had 2 'HeadHunters' find him! We are still in the negotiating process with 1 of them now. When they approached my husband he did some research on them and you can Google for them and TONS of HeadHunter companies pop up in every corner of our country.

I don't like being called a Head Hunter. It's kinda demeaning. I recruit people for positions. And yes - unless he has some classified job - I need to know what he does as there are many recruiters who specialize in a specific area in the work force.
The companies that you pay to get your husband hired guarantee a job within a set amount of days. There are several out there. Again - some specialize in a specific career field...some are generalized.
If he is going to job boards - he CAN make himself anonymous and even make his current employer anonymous. I personally don't like those resumes and don't contact the person because it FEELS like (not saying there is) something to hide.
For example - I have a Russian Linguist position open in San Antonio, Tx. You must have a clearance (TS/SCI) and be clearable for a polygraph.

I have never paid to use a recruiter and all but one have been out of state (I'm not moving from California). The companies I have worked for have hired recruiters in the healthcare/cancer research/laboratory industries and the hiring company paid a nice fee. I think the recruiter I worked with last year for my latest position made 40K for placing me.
I've worked in the staffing industry for 15 years and can tell you he should NOT have to pay a headhunter/executive search firm. Any place asking candidates to pay fees should be avoided. Companies pay the fees for finding the candidates they need.
You might call the local office of one of the larger national executive search firms (Korn Ferry, Eghon Zehnder, etc.) to get the ball rolling and they can put you in touch with one of their local offices in the Southwest.
First of all YOU should not pay a fee for a headhunter. The company who hires the headhunter is the one who pays the fee. If you pay someone, you are being ripped off.
We own our company, run it from home and we both still get calls from headhunters. I've asked how they got my name, etc and I've been told they found in most of the time on linkedin.com Of course I am not interested because I run my own company that typically is bigger than the ones the headhunters are recruiting for.
However, it is a start for your hubby. I routinely get random resumes as well as head hunter emails on linkedin. You might try that avenue. It is a business site and run sort of like FB but a professional as in job recruiters, job searchers, etc.

My brother is a head hunter and they do not charge the indviduals. If you are paying for a head hunter - it is most likely a scam. The company looking to hire pays the head hunter and they go out and find someone for the job. My brother has a very specific area of expertise and places all over the country. A good head hunter isn't local to where you want to go. We live in a global world.
If your husband can't post a resume on the job sites, I would recommend PM-ing one of the ladies here that offered and they can probably help you the most with finding a recruiter/recruiting firm.
