I have used Craigslist with great success. Also, if you are in the Naperville area, you can list up to 10 items for free at napervilleyardsales.com which has also worked for me.
Good luck!

Hi moms- I know a lot of you are really resourceful, so I was wondering if someone could suggest to me a good way to sell household items. I'm looking to start with a 90 gallon fish tank and some larger household items that would be difficult to donate and don't want to spend a lot of money on a newspaper ad. I wanted to see what experiences have been successful for you. I've thought about ads at the grocery store, but wasn't sure if that was the best approach and I haven't heard of any internet experiences. Please let me know what has worked for you.

hello,
craigslist-on the internet you can sell and buy anything on there and it's free and easy. Highly recommend it.
How much are you selling the fish tank for? my husband might be interested...thx sm ____@____.com
Craig's list! You can post for free, with photos, prices and pick up arrangements...www.craigslist.com
L.-
Try napervilleyardsales.com. It is like a local ebay type of thing no bidding though. Check it out...
I have purchased several random things for my daughter (snow pants, board books and toys) and everyone has been very helpful.

I'd try trade and times or craigs list
Craigslist has been really great!!! And it is free!
Hi L.,
You could try Craigslist.com I believe they advertise free of charge. By the way, if you happen to have an electric stove or washer and electric dryer, please let me know.
Good luck!

Craigslist is a good resource: http://chicago.craigslist.org/wcl/
If you decide to donate in order to prevent things from ending up in a landfill somewhere, I belong to a local recycling network: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Oswego_IL_Freesources/
I have had good luck as have several of my realtor friends by putting things on craigslist.com It's free and priced right they go quickly. You can decide if you want to post your phone number or give them an e-mail...I gave my phone #...When we bought a new sofa and chair last winter, I sold my old one in about 10 minutes! And I had 3 back up offers...it's great! Any questions call me at ###-###-####
You can get rid of all sorts of items on freecycle.org. It's a national Web site where you type in your address and then all these listservs come up in your area - you can join as many as you want for free and people just give away free stuff. Anything you can imagine.
Definitely put your stuff on www.craigslist.com. Everything that we have listed on there has sold within three days. And it's free!
Definitely Craigslist.org. I've used it to buy and sell a lot. It's great. Just tell people cash only.
Hello... HOw about starting right here with Mama Source i am definitely interesing in houehold stuff... I'm decorating my apt for the holidays. (smile) and also maybe you can try craiglist and ebay... i here it's easy to lisst stuff!! I am in the process of learning how to list stuff myself... I have things i need to get rid of and trade off!! good luck!!
Gigi,
What shape is the 90 gallon fish tank and how much might you be selling it for?
I've sold quite a few things on Craigslist. The only thing to be really careful is the scam artists out there. The minute they ask you for personal information, or mention their shipper, or say they'll buy it without seeing it, you know its a scammer. Make sure someone comes to the house to view it, get cash only. Good luck.
Craigslist is free classified. I buy and sell a lot on this site. Check it out!

Hi L., I have had a lot of success listing items on craigslist.com. It's a very easy process to list your item(s) and you're able to list by location so that shipping isn't involved. You also have the option to post photos if you'd like. My most recent experience was selling the swing set from my back yard that my children have outgrown. Listed on Friday and taken down and gone by Sunday!
Good luck!
Craigs List. Probably the best way. Or if you don't care about making money on it Freecycle.
Ditto on the first mom's recommendations.

I have had much success with craigslist.com. I don't recommend e-bay. Craigslist is where I sell everything I don't need. You have to price it good so it can sell.
Try craigslist.com
It's free to sign up for an account and post your ad. You can post pictures of your items and they assign you a random reply address so that your e-mail address isn't out there for everyone to see. Ads run for a week.
If that doesn't work, you can also try Freecycle through Yahoo groups. If someone wants what you have to offer, they come get it.
I have had a lot of sucess selling stuff on craigsliist.com There is also Jolietyardsales.com Good luck.
I suggest Craigslist. My husband and I moved to this country with our 4 children and 7 suitcases and after we bought our house, bought 90% of our home goods from Craigslist. Its always the first place I look for a good deal.
On the Radio station out of Plano IL (107.1 fm) at 1-1:30pm Monday-Friday they have a call in trading post WSPY-###-###-####. People call in and sell items from all over. Our neighborhood is also very good about setting it out in the front of the house and it goes quickly. Best wishes!
I agree with Craigslist and Naperville Yard Sales.com. You can try to sell there, then if you post on freecycle to give it away if it doesn't sell and you want to get rid of it. People come to you and you pick who gets it. You can determine pick up time on freecycle or leave on porch for them.
Gosh, I am wondering the same thing, as I've tried eBay for local pick-up and Craig's List. No success in either place. Please share your findings =)
