How Do I Get Nail Polish Out of My Carpet?

Yesterday, my wonderful children decided to get into my nail polish (and makeup and hair products and lotion) while their dad was "supposed" to be watching them while I was at the gym. They spilled bright pink nail polish in several places on my light brown carpet. Whats the best way to get rid of that?

What can I do next?

Try nail polish remover. I know sounds well duh, why didn't i think of that... however, it might just work. or, hairspray, i know it gets ink out of shirts and clothes... so might try that too. good luck. I have a little one who likes to get into my lotion and hair stuff too... i know the frustration.

good luck.

V., this very thing happened to me. I have three year old twins. Nail polish remover won't work. What you need to do is get some cheap men's shaving foam and spray the entire area with the shaving foam. Let it sit for about five minutes
then wipe with a wet cloth. this will take every bit of it up and not leave any residue. It sound wierd but completey works. My polish was a deep purple on light brown carpet and afterward you couldn't tell where the spill had ever been. good luck. let me know how it work for you. J.

Hi V.,

I don't know if you've tried it, but nail polish remover *might* work. Might make it worse too by smearing the stain, but I guess one way or another, that spot on the carpet is altered forever.

Maybe try and find some of the acetone free--might work better. Or, try Goo Gone. I get it at Target or Walmart. It has an orange scent, and says it works on paint and make-up. Just follow the label directions.

Good luck!

I have used nail polish remover, the acetone-free kind. You have to blot it on the stain, don't just pour it over, or you risk bleaching a large area of carpet. I've heard of using shaving cream, the really cheap stuff without all those moisturizers. I also looked it up on the web and found a couple of sites...you should check them out.
