Help with Father's Day Gift

Ok, get your creative juices flowing! I am working with my four year old for our Father's Day gift. I want to interview both him and his dad with fun questions. I'll record both of their answers and compile them into a small scrapbook with pictures of them together with me and my daughter (she's not old enough to answer questions yet). I am also thinking about doing a smaller version for my kids' grandfathers, or waiting until Grandparent's day in September.

If I get a good response on questions I hope to get something started where I can do this year after year. I think it will make a neat chronicle of their lives together while my children grow up. So my request is...can you please give me a question or two that would be fun for both to respond to. For example, what is dad's favorite color? favorite thing to do? what was dad like when he was four?, etc. I get stumped after about five questions.

I would sure appreciate your help, and if you are interested in doing something similar feel free to steal the idea. I stole it from someone else...those are the best ideas anyway!

So What Happened?

Thank you so much for all the responses, I really have my work cut out for me! You all had insight that I was lacking. I, also, plan to someone interject some stories about myself so that my history and life with the kids is not overlooked. Thank you for encouraging that, sometimes we go so wrapped up in doing for others that we forget to take care of ourselves. I guess that is mommyhood!

What's your favorite memory (of Dad/of son)?
If you could do anything together for a day, what would it be?
What's the silliest thing you've ever seen _______ do?
Why do you love _________? (and not just 'cause he's daddy, i.e. b/c he gives best hugs, etc....press for answer).

Another cute gift to do would be to get a white T-shirt in Dad's size, but a piece of cardboard in middle and use fabric paint...paint "World's Best Dad" and then paint the kids hands and have them put them on shirt and sign their names & ages under it....you could even keep adding hands each year they get older! :)

I really like this idea, both of mine are too young for it, but next year would be a great time to start for me. Anyway, I had a question for you. What about "What has been your favorite trip with Daddy?" or I have heard some great responses from this one "What do you think Daddy does at work?" and you could ask your husband "What do you think our son does during the day at daycare?" And then have them answer the what really goes on to those questions and compare them that way. That's all I have right now though.

If your going to chronicle them - you really should make some books of yourself and your kids. Unless you can get your husband to do it. I don't think this is something a man would be good at making anyway and I'm sure they wouldn't enjoy. Your people won't care who made it. It will just be nice to have about you too.

Congratulations on such an awesome gift idea!! For my husband's 50th BD, I asked him a series of ??s & documented his answers in a scrapbook. I also asked the party attendees for a funny "Mike" story. Some were handwritten (treasures to be kept forever). Taking it a step further, I now chronicle each milestone for my husband....including his heart surgery this past Christmas. The scrapbook was an excellent place to document how giving our friends/family are!

I did a variation of this for my son's HS graduation. He was surprised at the depth of love from his cousins' memories! With 21!! approaching rapidly for him, I plan to continue this thru the years. Good Luck!!

Hi, R.. I am a preschool teacher and make a card with the kids for Father's Day each year. It has open ended questions that the children fill in with their answers. They are so funny, and the dads love it. Here are the questions on it: My Dad is special because..., I like it when my Dad..., My Dad can do many things! I think he's best at...,My Dad has a great smile! I like to make him smile by..., My Dad is as handsome as a ..., My Dad is smart! He even knows...,. I love to see what the children say to these questions. I am a scrapbooker too, and your idea is wonderful. I might do it next year, since I don't have enough time this year. Good Luck and God Bless.
