I have a 7 year neice who I provide care for on weekends for my brother(a single parent). I'm having a very hard time with her. She is so mean and disrespectful to anyone in her life from school teachers, adults in the family and other children. She is very defiant and likes to pick on the smaller children. She has even raised her hands at her father and myself. We have tried so many different things with her but nothing seems to work. If ANYONE has any suggestions please give us a hand.

What can I do next?

It sounds as if your niece has some issues that she should probably see a professional about. If her mother is not around it could be directly related to that. Mean and disrepectful bahavior stems from feelings that she has that are not adressed.Good Luck.

I am suprised the school has done anything. She probally is upset about something...probally the situation, since she only has one parent. Has he tried some counsling? That might help to get to the underlying problem so you can move threw this issue before it esculates.

Hi T.,

It sounds like she might have some issues over not having her mother in the picture, she sees you with yr children and is probably lashing out if her mother is not in the picture, I gather that if u watch her on the weekends that her mother isn't around. Tell yr brother he needs to get her help now, before things even get worst. She might need someone other then family that she can talk to on how she feels, she sounds like she has alot of anger, and is to young on how to vent that anger and not on family that is there for her.good luck let us know how things are going.
