I know you want him to fall asleep on his own, but he just wants lovey touches with you, and that is so sweet. He won't always want that, so my advice would be to find some way to share cuddles with him at night in a way you are comfortable with.

My daughter likes to rub her nose on my cheek and I flat out do not like the way it feels, so instead of trying to stop it I'll just take her and hug her or hold hands with her and redirect it.

Love it while you can!

If it's a pet peeve, it's your right to have it.:)

I think this is simply a question of teaching boundaries. Everyone has their own comfort level and so do our kids. I really dislike when my son starts to "pat" on my front. They aren't *his*, nor are they an extension of his body. So now, when he does it, I tell him no once, and we stop what we are doing. If it happens a second time, I leave.

It's not about where he's touching, it's about the fact that when someone says no when you're touching them, you must stop. The first time they say no.

Your son can find another comfort object. He's doing this because you are letting him. He's four, and old enough to understand that your body is yours. If he can't respect that, you go away and let him put himself to sleep. Do it for one night-- stick to it-- and you will likely not have to do it again. :)

I'm not sure what your next move should be but I just wanted to say that as I was reading your post I was thinking "HOW CUTE!" I know...not what you wanted to hear =-)

My 5 year old likes to hold my hand while falling asleep. Eventually he will grow out of it and i'll miss it.

Best of luck!

My son likes my armpits and when it is all stubbly.
He likes the "pokey" feel.
He likes my husbands face too, when he has beard stubble.

When I lift my arms up for whatever reason, my son will happily exclaim "ARMPIT" and rush over to me and stick his hands up my armpits. And he looks so blissful.
Well, that is my son.
He also has a lovey.

My son is also 4.

HI--
I think all kids have something like this. My oldest played with my hair, my youngest always wanted to squeeze my breast (while breast feeding). For the oldest I got him a stuff animal and put it in his hand--it took some time but it worked. My youngest has started playing with his own hands, but still prefers to squeeze me (almost like holding a bottle--it makes me a little crazy!!). He knows I don't like it and is trying to stop, but sometimes does it without thinking when he's falling asleep.
Good luck!

My nephew did the same thing to my sister. She just started grabbing his hand each time he went for her ear. It was tough but he eventually stopped and was so tired he'd just fall asleep.
