This is my second baby (had an emergency c-section with my first). I am due with my second on 2/25. I have had issues with an ovarian cyst this pregnancy which has been causing me a lot of pain. After much contemplation, I have decided to have a repeat c-section and have the cyst removed simultaneously (otherwise, I would have to have surgery a few months after birth).
My doctor has given me the choice of 2/19 (another family member's birthday) or 2/25 (my due date) and I am having trouble deciding what to do. I would love to wait until my due date so the baby can continue to grow, but if I go into labor before then, I would have another doctor (whoever is on-call) perform both my c-section and surgery. I am okay with the c-section part, but it is the removal of the cyst that concerns me...I want my doctor.
Any other Mom's out there have opinions or have been through this?
A little more information: I was 4 days late with my first.

I have really been stressing about doing what is best for both my baby and me (as there is a greater chance of losing my ovary by having it removed during the c-section), so I think I am most comfortable with having my doctor deliver my baby and remove the cyst. 2/19. Babies are considered full term at 37 weeks. I would much rather have a controlled delivery. Good luck.
Recent reading points to even babies born at 39 weeks don't do as well as those who are born at 40 weeks, so I would choose the due date for sure.
Those last few weeks and even DAYS are critical for brain growth and overall infant health.

If you were late, its highly likely you'll make it to your due date....but there is no guarantees. And 2/19 vs 2/25 is not that big of a deal to go early. If I put myself in your shoes I'd go on 2/19 to guarantee I get the Dr I want.
I'm sure the doctor on call is quite capable-or your doctor would have no affiliation with him. Best of luck-wait as long as you are able.

While 37 weeks is considered full term insurance companies will not cover any c section before 39 unless its an emergency. That said my daughter was scheduled for 39 weeks and 4 days. That's the day I chose because my father passed away on feb 11 but the last time I heard him say I love you to me and also I have a letter he wrote me dated feb 9, the day she was born.
My first child was 2 weeks late (and then born by emergency C).
My second child was a scheduled C-section. It was scheduled a week before my due date. I went into labor 3 days before the scheduled date. So my first child (never went into labor, baby taken out at 42 weeks) was not a predictor at ALL of what would happen the second time (went into labor at 38.5 weeks).
Scheduling a c-section at 39 weeks is considered very safe.
Given all this, I'd say go with the earlier date if you want to increase your chances of having your doctor.
My due date was March 18 and I went into labor on March 13. Coincidentally, it was the day of my scheduled c-section. Technically it is considered full term, but in actuality, 37 weeks is not full term. More and more studies are finding that it is best to be as close to 40 weeks as possible. Since the 19th is less than a week earlier than your due date, I say go with the 19th.
My doctor did all planned c-sections the Monday before the due date of the baby. My youngest was a planned c-section (following only 23 months after an emergency c-section) and he was born on March 12th, which was the Monday before his due date. She did not want me to go in to labor on my own with him.
I say go with the earlier date and it really doesn't matter if it is someone else's birthday. Heck, my brother and 2 friends have that same birthday too!
I get why this is stressful, I hated the thought of being able to pick a date for my son, but luckily the doctor picked for me. I'd go earlier though to be safe. Good luck!
If I really wanted my own doctor, then that is the date I would choose to give myself the best shot of having my doctor do the procedures. Intellecutally I know my doctor works with reputable fellow doctors but the familiarity with my own doctor is important for some procedures in my opinion.
I was a scheduled c-section with both my babies. My first was one week before my due date and he was delivered with no problems. My second was scheduled on my due date but he didn't get the memo apparently. He came two weeks early and the labor progressed at breakneck pace which was an interesting contrast to the first experience.
Regardless of your decision, mentally prepare yourself that your plans may be in vain if the baby has other ideas and decides to come early. Good luck and congratulations.
