This question is for moms that have had repeat c sections.
My first c section was not planned. I had a slow leak at week 37, I went into the hospital at this time to make sure everything was okay. They knew I was leaking but the tests could not conclude what the leak was. So they sent us home. The following week at week 38, I went into labor. At the hospital they asked me if my water had broken and it hadn't at least to my knowledge. But they noticed my water was not there. I was in labor from 8 am to 4 pm. Contractions were severe with little to no pauses. I was progressing but my son was in distress and by 4 pm, my doctor told me that they could not wait any longer. We went in to have the c section. After he was born my doctor said that even if there would have been more time, he would not have fit through my pelvis.
I am 36 weeks pregnant with my second. I am a scheduled c section but at 39 weeks. My doctor said she is not able to schedule me any earlier. My question is what is the likelihood of me going early because my first was early? I know every pregnancy is different. But I knew with my first that I was going to go early and I feel like this one is going to be prior to the 39 weeks too.
I went into labor with my oldest at 36 weeks and never went into labor on my own again with the other 3 kids.
my first was born emergency c-section at 29 weeks. The second c-section was scheduled for 39 weeks. I was stitched, progesterone shots, extra monitoring, testing...@ 36 weeks went in for routine appointment and hour monitoring and everything was fine no signs of premature labor. Less than 12 hours later my water broke and I went to the hospital early the next morning (dumb - should've gone right away but didn't want to wake anyone since I had it in my head not yet!) and had my c-section. My personal experience is they can do everything possible to keep that baby in, but a baby is going to come when it's good and ready!

My water broke 3 days before my planned c section the second time. Wishing you luck and a speedy recovery.. And like the other mom said the recovery was way better than the first. My first was in labor 22hrs. Everything went really smooth second time around:)
You previous pregnancy really isn't an indicator of future ones. My mom delivered my brother (via c-section) two weeks past her due date. I was born at 32 weeks because her water broke. I'm having my second c-section in 10 days, and, unless there are medical reasons, doctors typically do not schedule prior to the 39th week. My guess is it's for malpractice reasons, but just relax knowing that if your baby came today he/she would be fine!
I had a reeat. i went into labor with my first child at 37 weeks. had to have c-section as she was breach. i seriously felt that my second would be earlly, too. i thought the dr's were wrong with his due date. they weren't. i went right up to the date for the c-section. i was very disappointed. oh, and my recovery was better also.
I went into labor 4 days early with my first, I was induced with my second which turned into an emergency c-section (though I'm convinved he would have stayed in forever if we let him), and my youngest was a planned c-section. My doctor refused to let me go past 38 weeks though. Because that is essentially full term and she did not want me to go on my own, even though my history didn't say I would. Each kid and each pregnancy is differnet though. Good luck!
they will always have time slots for ememercy c-section. so, don't worry, if you go labor, just go to the hostipal and call your doctor.

I had a 2nd c-section. Planned after my 1st, which was an emergency.
Per my Doc, he performs it at 38 weeks. 2 weeks before the due date.
This is to prevent, going into labor otherwise.
Each pregnancy is different.
My eldest child, my daughter was born 1 week early.
But again, my 2nd was a planned c-section at 38 weeks.
My kids, were born FULLY fine and healthy and good developed lungs. They were both born, at over 8 pounds each. And fully well formed and developed.
Recovery from my 2nd planned c-section, was a lot easier. Because my body was not worn out and distressed, from HOURS of labor. Which is what happened with my 1st child.
My son was delivered by "emergency c-section" too. My daughter decided to come early - before we'd even decided whether to schedule a c-section or try natural birth! I went straight to the hospital when my water broke and they actually let the labour proceed until baby "flipped" and ended up in breech position. From then it was a matter of 15mins from the time they administered the spinal block anesthetic to the time my daughter was born. I'm sharing my story just to put your mind at ease. Nowdays, even if baby decides to come early, the odds are excellent that both of you will be fine! Enjoy your last couple of weeks and just trust that, no matter what, everything will be fine! I just had my second c April 5th. I wanted to go natural with my first son but he got to 40+ weeks without sinking into my pelvis, without contractions, without dialation or any effort to come out on his own. He was 8lbs 14.5oz. The second one was a c primarily because of the same reasons and the control my doc has over how the birth will go. She supported my wanting to hypnobirth the first one until w decided to do a c, then she shared that shed herself would never have a vaginal birth. I share this because every situation is different, you can't go with odds... What's going to happen is what's going to happen. The key to me is that your first was in distress. Anything you can do to minimize that for the second seems to be the smartest thing. If number 2 comes earlier the hospital will accommodate you. Sounds like you have to wait it out! Planned c's are easier to me, especially when you know what to expect!

I know that you are almost there, but did you find out any information about having a vaginal birth? I hear your scenerio all the time, but women do go on to birth vaginally once they find out more information. That might not be what you want to hear, but if you have an inkling, try to find out more. You can even call other doctors and certified nurse midwives to talk to them about your situation. Get on www.ican-online.org to find someone in the cesarean awareness group near you and talk to them about their experiences and what they were "told" and what actually can happen. The American College of Ostetricians and Gynecologist actually published an article encouraging doctors to please allow women to try and VBAC. http://www.acog.org/from_home/publications/press_releases...
But after all of that (who knows if you needed that information or not), here is my advice about a cesarean, as a doula. There is no way to know how this labor would happen or when it would happen even based on prior births. Every one is different. :) The absolute best thing that you can do (based on research articles) is to actually let your body start labor before you have your cesarean. That is the perfect sign that your baby is ready to live on the outside of you. So if you do start labor at 38 weeks, that's great. You can go into the hospital for your cesarean. I think it's a good thing your doc won't schedule before 39 weeks. We never truly know when a baby is ready, until it's ready. Some babies are fine being delivered via c-section at 38 weeks, some are not and have to be in the NICU for a couple of weeks. You want what is best for your baby and what is most healthy. I would even recommend that if you haven't gone into labor at 39 weeks, to put your cesarean off until you do go into labor, maybe at 40 weeks.

They won't make you wait until week 39 to deliver if you go into labor! If you start having contractions, they will take you in and give you a c-section. If not, you will go on your scheduled day with absolutely no drama and have a baby. Good luck. You'll be fine!
I've had 3 c-sec's. They were all scheduled a week or a little more early.
With the 3rd, I also had the feeling that there was no way I was going to make it, and I was right. My due date was Mar. 8th, and I was scheduled for a c- section- originally Mar. 1st- but I finally convinced the doc that I wasn't going to make it, so it was re-scheduled for Feb 25th.
I went into labor, though, in the wee hours of Feb. 19th. So, I just wound up having the c- sec. on Feb. 19th. It all worked out- it just wasn't as convenient because we had to call my MIL @4am to come stay with our other children.
