Having Bad Hair Issues

I know that after having a baby you may have some bad hair issues because of hormones going crazy. I expected that my hair would start to fall out or get thinner, but it's more than that. I have long curly hair, so I'm used to the tangles, but it's gotten so bad that just one day after washing it, it's a matted mess. It's also gotten very dry and frizzy but at the base of my scalp it's very greasy. I'm not sure what to do to help get it back to normal. I didn't get the beautiful shiny hair while I was pregnant and I was ok with that, but this is worse than it was before. Has anyone else experienced this or have any suggestions?

What can I do next?

This is also very normal. I am a hair-stylist and have a client with the same or similar situation. You need a good conditioner on your hair. KMS sells a deep conditioner that would be great, or AVEDA has a damage remedy treatment that would also work great. Many brands sell these deep conditioning treatments. When you use it keep it off your scalp and ONLY on the dry parts of your hair, the midshaft and ends... When you are in the shower being a comb in with you and keep combing your hair, with the shampoo in and then the conditioner, but remember keep it off your scalp.
Make sure you are using products such as KMS silksheen therapy plus or biosilk (biosilk can be greasy so be careful)(also keep these off your scalp), so something like that in your hair during the day. You can put this in after washing. It will help with frizz and will give you shine. You can then add your normal product over that.
Email me if you have anymore questions, but i hope that helps a little bit. Good luck!
:)

You should try getting a new shampoo & conditioner. Try getting a creamy textured shampoo instead of a clear one and get a really moisturizing conditioner. It sounds like your hair and scalp are dry and your scalp is making more oil to compensate for it. Don't buy a shampoo for oily hair because they are drying and will only make the problem worse. Good luck with everything!!

I am also a hairdresser and have seen this problem many times. It is caused by the hormonal changes in your body.
What the other Mom recommended is correct, also keeping your hair tied up makes it seem worse, because when you take it down you tend to feel like you are loosing much more hair.
Hang in there as you start to get your period and stop breast feeding it will begin to subside. I have also seen women who's hair changed with each pregnancy and got straighter or frizzier.
I am sure you look beautiful!

HI S.,
Boy, my hair went crazy with my second pregnancy! I didn't get the awesome hair and afterwards it was just a dry MESS! My hair is super thick and curly. Ugh. So! After a shower I finally just headed into the kitchen and poured a dime-sized amount of olive oil in my palm and coated my hair with it. It just sucked it up. I found the olive oil helped my dry skin too.
I also upped my intake of Flax seed oil. I'm slowly getting back to normal-it's been 2 months.....!

Hi. I've been where you are and I agree that it not fun. I use a all natural balancing cream that has helped me with my HORMONES, periods, weighloss, etc. My girlfriends, Mom ans sisters are all using it, too for varying hormonal conditions. Please contact me via email if interested in finding out more info. The cream is less than $40 and works fast! C.

Hi, I am smiling because I literally just got back from the salon an hour ago. (FYI: My daughter is 9 mos old and I just stopped breast feeding and haven't got my cycle back yet.) My naturally wavy hair is totally thinning out and I lost it all along the hairline in front. It has just started to grow back and is like an inch long and sticks out all over. My stylist suggested cutting my overall length shorter which made it seem thicker and much healthier to me. It also seems easier to manage. My hair was very dry at the ends and very frizzy looking and all of this is gone. I am not a super huge fan of the cut or the length, but overall I think it looks better. After things start up again and my hormones shift (i hope) I have every intention of growing it out more. For the meantime, I feel less dowdy and look more like I am taking care of myself. she also gave me a treatment by Bumble and Bumble that is supposed to help make the shorter hairs grow in faster, healthier and shinier, but it wasn't cheap, so it better work!

i have strait hair but had the same problem after being ill for a few years. i decided to try, of all things DOVE for dry or damaged hair. i DONT use a blow dryer or curling iron in my hair. it took about 6 months but i noticed my hair is so much softer, shiny, NOT AT ALL greasy and i get sooo many compliments on it. i wash and condition it every day and it is long. i dont dye it either (at least not till i turn grey wich i hope i still have several years for)my hair used to come out in clumps... that has died down to just a few strands too. i WONT use anything else now. i tried when i went out of town ... my hair felt dry while i was putting the conditioner on it. good luck. i know you will find what works, just remember it wont change over night. find one product and stick with it for at least a couple months before you give up and go onto another.
