I've seen their $99 special all over town but have gotten mixed reviews on their service. Has anyone gotten totally screwed by these people or do they actually do good work? Most of what I've heard is that they try to push & nail you by saying you need all these other services along with the package or your car won't run or something like that. I even had a friend of mine who went in for an oil change & they came back telling him he needed $700 worth of other repairs - they even told him to find someone to borrow the money from! At any rate, I need to get my brakes done, and I need help. If you know of any GOOD places in the NE St. Pete area, throw those my way too. Thanks!
Thanks for all your responses on this! I had a feeling I'd get this reaction, but I thought I'd give the place the benefit of a doubt. After a few phone calls, I'm taking my car to Park Auto Mall for an inspection to find out exactly what all I need. They're not going to charge me, and their prices are much more reasonable. 6 years ago, my boyfriend at the time worked there and he said he would never send anyone there. There $99 special just gets you in the door, but he said he had almost never seen anyone actually only pay $99. This was a long time ago, like I said, maybe things have changed, but thought I would tell you anyway. Unfortunately I don't have any recommendations. Good luck!
I just asked my husband, who is on the couch watching TV, about his last experience at Just Brakes (which I seemed to remember there being something fishy about) and he yelled, "DO NOT go to Just Brakes, tell whoever it is you're talking to DO NOT go to Just Brakes!!!" Then he actually got up and came in the room so he could yell more effectively about how last time he went he'd just replaced the brake system on the Dodge, was short a shoe and when he brought it there they told him he needed to replace the whole brake system, WHICH HE'D JUST DONE. (His caps.)
Unfortunately he doesn't have any specific recommendations but he did say to find a local garage (not a chain) that the owner works at because they will be more concerned with reputation and whether or not you tell your friends good things about them.

i have never heard ANYTHIG good about Just Brakes. EVERYTIME i have been to my mechanic in the past there was someone in there needing to have their brakes fixed or redone because they went to Just Brakes and got ripped off. i am not sure of where you live but i can give you the names of two places to go where the people are VERY honest, the first is Insty Tune on North Dale Mabry just South of Bearss (the only reason i do not use them any more is because i have started using the mechanic my husbands company uses) but everytime i have gone to Insty Tune they give the worst case senario but i Always paid less then what they originally estimated (i think the owners name is Andre, they are just great and honest mechanics) the other place is PAR Automotive on North Florida Ave close to Bearss (this is the mechanic my husbands company uses) again, these are great and honest mechanics (i think the owners name is Tim, the mechanic that worked on my car this week is Matt, he did a fantastic job) please let me know if you would like phone numbers or addresses to either of these places i would be more than happy to get them for you. DO NOT USE JUST BRAKES!!!! They will try to sell you on anything they can, and a simple brake job will end up costing you $800!! They are slime...
Run, and I mean FAST! We took ours there and I'm sure they broke something so that we would have to pay more because there was nothing seriously wrong with the brakes before we took it in. We made them put everything back and took it to someone else who fixed our problem for a loot less.
Just Brakes will hold you for ransom if you go there. They will tell you that you need hundreds of dollars worth of work, and if you decline the work, they will tell you they will not put your vehicle back together..you will have to have it towed out of their garage because it is "unsafe". My sister ended up leaving her vehicle at a Just Brakes for days before they finally told her to come get it...and then they tried to hit her for storage fees! Your best bet in all reality is to take it to a dealership. When it comes to brakes, the manufacturer techs are trained to work on specific vehicles, not a little of everything. It does not cost that much more than some independent garages, and when ito comes to safety, the extra cost is well worth it. Depending on the type of vehicle you have, I would be happy to recommend specific dealers. I work for a dealership and have access to a weath of good info. on other dealers. I hope this helps!
Hmmm my advise on Just Brakes? Run away as fast as you can!! They are aweful, they raked my hubby and I over the coals and they didn't do the work they promised!!! We had to go back less than 6 mos later and they would only pro-rate!! My brother also got stuck with them, he had an emergency and jut went to the only place he'd heard of...Just Brakes and he also got taken for a LOT of money and his brakes still weren't functioning properly! I have a fabulous mechanic but he isn't in St. Pete he's in Oldsmar. If you're interested anyway you can private message me and I'll give you his number. He is extremely trustworthy and will not just fix something and charge you if you can get more wear and tear out of the part he will tell you honestly.
