I've just had it since Sat. and I forget to take it before meals sometimes, but so far, so good....no 'signs' of discomfort!
My daughter who is a Physician Asst. said the Cardiologist that she works for said he uses it, and so I feel like it's beneficial to some extent.
How about you? It's expensive but if it keeps me from absorbing fat, then it's well worth it!

My best friend Jamie began taking alli and soon realized that almost all the side effects it says you will have , she had. Along with another friend of mine. Both of them had anal leakage. They also mentioned to me that they had to change their underwear multiple times a day and it became so embarassing that they got off the drug. The good effects were that they did lose weight while on it, but because of the side effects they chose to do Weight Watchers and got a more healthy long lasting weight loss than that drug.
After having my child I found that I gained 80lbs at the end, with a total weigh in of 180lbs. With healthy eating, two big meals a day and small snacks, I went from 180 to 115 in 8 months. Now that I am at my goal weight, I will now workout and tone. All bodies are different but that is what worked best for me. I hope this helps.

I know this is a bit late, but just for the record it is not just fatty foods, but you will have problems as well if you take any kind of oily supplements, like flaxseed oil or fish oil for your Omegas. Just a thought. Good luck!

I am currently taking alli. I have almost completed my first bottle and I have lost 4 pounds. I haven't had any of the treatment effects that you here so much about. I am also scared to eat anything to bad just in case though. It doesn't make you jittery or anything. It is a slow weight loss. Good luck!

I am currently taking it and asked my doctor for his advice prior to taking it. Please remember to take things that are said here with a grain of salt and do fact-finding research before you make up your mind. Someone indicated that they got migraines from taking it. That is absolutley false and mis-leading. If they got a migraine, it wasn't from alli. Alli has no effect on the liver, the kidneys, the brain, the central nervous system and does NOT get into your blood stream at all. It works ONLY on your digestive system. It is not addictive or habit forming. All that being said, it really is a safe drug that can help you lose more weight than dieting alone. You absolutely have to stick to a lowfat diet or you will suffer what they call "treatment effects". This is not pleasant. In my experience, though, if you stick to the lowfat diet, you won't have to deal with this. It's not a magic pill, so don't expect miracles. The only thing I can equate it to is that it's almost like having a nutritionist follow you around at all your meals. If you eat healthy, you'll be fine. If you eat a diet that is high in fat, however, you'll suffer the consequences. For more information regarding the safety of alli and how it works, see the following web site:
i would like to try it too so how do i know what everyones response is

My mom and sister have both tried it. It DIDN'T work with mom because she didn't do anything different (lifestyle change-wise). She just had loose stools, but no weight loss. My sister followed the online advice (it comes with the pack), watched fat intake and exercised - it helped her lose 20 lbs. in 3 months. Hope this helps.

I took Alli before it became an over the counter drug. My doctor gave me the prescription form which was double the strength. I had great success with it. I lost over sixty lbs., not just using Alli but through diet and exercise, too. I have since gain back probably 10 to 15 lbs. Alli was great because I knew that when I was "cheating" my cheating wasn't so bad because 30 percent of the fat was being flushed out of my body before it hit all the wrong places. The only downside for me was more "gas" than normal and the occasional loose stool. I would definitely recommend it.

I am on it now and i am very satisfied. The support that goes along with it is great.i am only on my 1st week and have lost 3 pounds. It is not like the other diet pills out there. It does force you to eat well. If you follow the diet plan and do some exercise, i think it will work.

I absolutely love it.
It not only forces you to eat health - which in the end because a habit without thinking about it.... but it really works.
When I was using it - I was at 165-69.... after two bottles I am down to 145 and eating healthier than ever. Which also means my daughter is eating healthier.
I will be starting another bottle in a week or so... the website that is set up for support is awesome as well. You register the bottle you buy and they have recipes, help tips, meal plans and so forth.
WARNING - if you do not follow the guides and eat whatever you want not paying attention to your fat intake - your stomach will be upset and you will spend a lot of time in the restroom due to the side affects...
But - if you are serious and following the instructions - its the best I have EVER tried!

Hi B.,
I am currently taking Alli and it is working for me. This is the second time I have tried to take it. The first time I failed miserably as I didn't change my diet. This will not help you lose weight.
Now I follow my diet and know exactly when I don't as the side effects are in full swing. It is slow weight loss but steady.
The best thing about is it is teaching to eat right 90% of the time.
You should start over a weekend to see how the side effects will affect you.
Good luck.

Took it for 12 days... It gave me MIGRAINES, DIZZY SPELLS,
CONSTIPATION.. I ate normally and did not not suffer from the "ALLI-OOPS" accidents everyone warns you about..
It does force you to eat healthy, well actually it scares the hell out of you to eat healthier so none of the side effects catch you outside of your home!!!!

I am on Alli as we speak. I love it. It helps you to go to the restroom if you have problems in that area. You take it when you have ate a meal with a high fat content. The pill works by grabbing 15% of the fat from the meal and discards it with a bowel movement. IT does not make you shake and jitter like other diet pills. It has worked for me. I have lost about 8 pounds in 2 months...which is not allot but still I have lost.

I started it and then stopped because I wasn't ready yet to change the diet.
However, I loved it, the website support was great and during the time I did take it I lost a few pounds.
Now, I'm going to start taking it again because I've been doing eDiets for a few weeks and losing weight, and watching fat etc so I feel ready.
I have to say the eDiets website is better for Nutrition Tracking and meal planning that Alli's but Alli's was very good. eDiets is easier, contains more real world food options that you don't have to type in to record, just click on it.

I have not tried the drug but as a pharmacist I must warn
you that you will experience bloating, gas, diarrhea, and other intestinal upsets UNLESS you cut out almost all fat
from your diet. that is the way the drug works it blocks the absorption of the fat and it is execreted. it sure makes a very visual impression on how much fat you are ingesting. Be
sure to cut down on the fat and drink plenty of water. Start
the drug on a weekend when you can stay close to home. the intestional upsets may still occur for the first week or so even if you cut down on the fat.

I haven't tried the drug, and I don't know your circumstances, but I did just go from 150 to 117 lbs in ten months (I am 5'4"). I had tried diets and exercise, but could not get my post-pregnancy weight off...I even went to a plastic surgeon for a tummy tuck consultation (too expensive and leaves weird smiley face scarring). I saw a friend of mine who looked great and asked her what her secret was. She had been in Weight Watchers, so I joined back in May year...it has come off slowly at an average of .8 to 1.6 lbs a week, but I have maintained the loss for six months now. If you have questions (no, you don't have to buy specific foods) please feel free to e-mail me. - H.

Alli is the over the counter version of the prescription diet pill Xenical. While I have heard some people have success with the pill, there are some significant side effects that you should be aware of.
First, you have to watch the fats that you eat. Alli/Xenical affects the way that you metabolize fat and if you eat too much you don't feel so well. Additionally, you end up pooping the excess fat out in very oily stools. The drug also causes some uncontrolled pooping much like people who have bladder weakness. The manufacturer actually recommends that people wear "protective under garments" because you could sneeze, cough, etc.. and involuntarily leek out poop.
Just so you know.

Ive been on it since it came out. it really gets rid of about 30% of the fat you intake. if you stay on your regular foods, then you will not lose weight, you just wont gain much. but if you go on a lowfat diet with Alli, then you will lose 3 extra pounds for every 10 pounds you lose.
there are also alot of side effects, like anal leakage...i havent had that, but i know 2 people who did and stopped using it.

I took the prescription strength version of Alli which is called Xenical. It is double the strength of Alli. It worked, but if I ate too much fat, it was a mess. So if you are good at sticking too a low fat diet, I say go for it. But if not, then I would not recommend it.

I asked my doctor about it. He said it would take a good 6 months before you saw good results. I tried it and had to be very careful about how much fatty/greasy food I ate. It truely does take the fat out of your food and puts it into your waste. Can be very messy if you get the idea. It comes out as liquid fat. I didn't stick with it.

Actually, I'm on my 3rd day of it. I wanted to try it just to see what it was about. The thing that worried me the most was the thought of yucky BM's, but to be quite frank (and I am always frank -lol), they haven't been bad. I just aviod oily, fried foods. And I think that's the whole purpose of the drug - to keep you from eating the DELICIOUS, but BAD FOR YOU fried food :)

I tried Alli for almost a month and I was also doing Nutrisystem. I figured that since Nutrisystem is a low fat diet I wouldn't have any problems with the sudden anal leakage. Alli made me SUPER gassy and when I did accidentally relieve my gas the oily secreations seeped out. When I was going to the bathroom the gas came a flowin and then the toilet was filled with the oily substance and I would have to clean the potty after every use. I stopped using it after 3 week because I hadn't really lost any additional weight. Even after a week off I was still having issues with the side effects. I wouldn't suggest using it. I also wouldn't suggest Nutrisystem. I found the food disgusting and eventually went back to Jenny Craig where the food is so much better. Hope this was helpful and not too disgusting to read... :)
