I am newly pregnant, (about 6-7 weeks) and was wondering if anyone has used Dr. Julia Flowers in Grapevine as their OB-GYN?
What do you think of her?
I have seen her before for well-woman, etc, but was curious about her as an OB doctor??

Thank you!

What can I do next?

I have heard great things about her and was very impressed with her credentials. I tried to make a well women appt. and they said she was booked until 2011, which is just crazy. I think it may be different if you are pregnant, it sounds like they get you right in if that is the case.

My friend did. And she was great until she started forcing her to induce 2 weeks before due date just because she was going to vacation. But with the rest my friend was very happy with her. I had my 2 boys with dr Wai, they share office and i guess work as a team. He is a very good doctor too.

Dr. Flowers delivered my little girl, 11 months ago. Great experience - she's got a good personality but does have an "all business" side of her, too. Which I actually like.

What I would say is the best thing about her practice, though, is her nurse - Tina. When you're a first time OB, you have tons of questions and the OB nurse is sometimes your closest friend! Tina was (and still is) great and makes Dr. Flowers' practice really one I'd refer friends to.

She delivered my second child back in '04. I loved her. She was attentive and seemed genuinely concerned about my personal situation. I was 36 and have hypothyroid so I was considered "high risk" and she made sure I saw all the correct specialists, had all the right tests and because of a "bad" c-section experience I had with my first child, she even arranged for a surgeon to close my incision to help with scar revision.

The two things I didn't like were probably common to a lot of OBs. First, if you need the Rhogam (sp?) shot, which not all people do, her office will NOT file insurance for that and it is pretty expensive. Second, I had to wait a significant amount of time at each visit, either because she usually overbooks OR she had been called away for deliveries.

Other than that, though, I really thought she was great and I would probably use her again if I were going to have another baby.

Congrats on your new little bundle of joy to be!

Hi My name is C. I have used Dr Flowers for my first and second child. She was amasing. I had no completes about her. Well to be honest I changed ob when I had my third child. Reason was my first delivery my child turned and they really couldn't help with turning her.The second child had is cord around his neck and I told her that something was wrong and all they did was montor his heart beat and since that was good and didn't run another sono on him so when I delevered his cord was around him and they had two cut it twice because my son was holding his cord in his hand. I am not trying to scare you was was amasing through the whole delivery except when its was time to deliver. Of course in my opinion I changed my ob.

Congratulations!!

My friend, Dr. Stacey Hatcher (internist at Southlake Family Medicine) recommended her - which I like when a doctor recommends another doctor!

I'm excited to hear all the good things about Dr. Flowers - because I will be going to her soon as well.

As for the AFP test - they are FALSE POSITIVE about 80% of the time - which is just ridiculous. I chose not to even take the test with both of my pregnancies. I believe God has a plan even if I did have a down syndrome child, so what would an unreliable test do except worry me. It's not like I would have aborted because of some "perceived imperfection".

Best wishes with your pregnancy!!

Dr. Flowers delvered both of my children (4 and 1), and I would highly recommend her. I also had a false positive on my AFP test, but the nurse told Dr. Flowers how worried I was. Dr. Flowers personally called me sick from home (she could hardly talk) to explain the results and reassure me that my baby would be fine. I think that she is a great doctor, and I really like her. I wasn't very impressed with the wait times and the front desk staff, but I thought it was worth it to have her deliver both of my children.

Dr. Flowers has been my OB/GYN for over 6 years and has delivered both of my babies. She is wonderful!!! I hope she will be my doctor until either she retires or I die! hahaha I appreciate that she has children the same age, as well. There can be a long wait to see her at times in the office, so go in the morning if you can before she gets behind. AND, make sure to schedule your appointments plenty of time in advance. I love her and would HIGHLY recommend her.

I used her and she was awful. She didn't really do her job. She has a definite dark side if you try to ask anything of her or something goes wrong. She is a horrible doctor. I highly recommend against her.

I used her for my recent pregnancy (baby is 1)and I SWITCHED OBGYN'c at 20 weeks pregnant.Just beware that they go in to no detail when taking your blood and doing TESTS! I took a blood test for Downs ans Spina Bifida and was not educated on the HIGH false positive results...therefor, I took the test and...I recived a 1:19 chance that my child would be born with Downs (AND...told this over the phone like it was no big deal!!) From then on, they sent me to a specialist who wanted to do an amnio...Lets just say, I had a total of 10 sonograms and never did they find anything wrong. My whole pregnancy was stressful because of the laziness on their part. Not to mention, her personality is blah...it was like herding cattle through that office. I switched to a Fantastic doctor right across from Baylor...Dr. Courtney Walters. Io highly recommend her. She actually put me at ease and explained everything.

I thought she was the one that is impossible to get in with any time soon because everyone wants her..someone said before she's booked til 2010 or something crazy on accepting new ob patients. I've never used her but I hear her name a LOT.

Two of my daughters use Dr. Flowers and love her. She delivered my grand-daughter who is six. My youngest daughter (no children) who is 29 has been seeing Julia for about nine years and had surgery by Dr. Flowers. I'm in the VA system, so I do not see her.

After reading other responses I do remember the oldest daughter getting a false positive on a test with her oldest child (11), but that was with a different doctor who has retired. She changed to Dr. Flowers on her sister's recommendation when the other doctor retired.

If you cannot get into Dr. Flowers, Dr. Wai is in her same office, and he is amazing. He really cares, and is very gentle.

Congratulations! I have been a patient of Dr. Flowers for 9 years and she delivered all three of my kids. My youngest is 6 months. She was fabulous! Everyone says she is so busy, and yes that is true, but I never felt that my care was anything but her best. Having children herself, I always felt that Dr. Flowers understood more about what I was going through. I have recommended her to several friends and know you will be in good hands!

She is my doctor, and as an OB nurse, I know her patients love her. She is very conscientious and attentive - I won't go into my birth experience - she only delivered my last child. She is VERY busy and unless you are already an established patient you won't get in with her.

I have had two friends that Dr. Flowers delivered both of their babies and they both loved her. Very accomodating and supportive (my one friend did a completely natural birth, no drugs). I have only heard good things!

Best wishes - and congrats!

Love her! She delivered all 3 of my angels, two of which were twins and was a very high risk preg. I was in the hospital before their birth for 5 weeks and she was wonderful, visiting everyday, sometimes twice and making sure I was getting great care. She did everything she believed would benefit my babies, even if insurance wouldn't pay she wrote it off, and I ended up delivering 2 healthy babies I believe because of her. Also great with my first preg which was normal and easy. Highly recommond her as a doctor!
