My Little girl has very curly hair.. its also very very dry.. both my ex hub and I are dominican but I am more of Spaniard decent and his hair is a bit 'nappy' .. Her hair is not 'nappy' but it is very very dry.. she has thin hair with lots of curls.. Any Ideas?? I guess the best way to describe her hair is mixed girl hair..like black/white mixed..

What can I do next?

GENTLE SHAMPOO

Comb once every washing very gently when conditioner in hair.

shake hair out, don't put up in towel and/or lightly towel dry

for extra manageability, you can try a tiny tiny bit of baby oil.

I can totally relate to hair! My daughter is spanish/caucasian/black.
The best product hands down is called Mixed Chicks, you can find it online. Its pricey, but works! We only use their shampoo, conditioner, and leave in conditioner on our daughter's hair and it helps sooooo much!!! Check into it, very much worth it. Also, I would say braid up your child's hair at night, if you can even just loosley and wrap it in a silk hair cover, you can find it at walmart or hair supply store, only a couple bucks, its silky in texture and goes over all hair at night because the silk is better for the hair than cotton on a pillow case, or you can buy silky pillow cases and that can help with frizz.

You have to find a good moisturizer for her hair and scalp. I have curly hair and I am of mixed decent (Mom is from Trinidad, Dad is Chinese). My kids are the United Nations, my daughter's father is Puertorican and Cuban and she has ALOT of hair. Miss Jessie's Products are great but pricey. I would suggest going to a beauty supply store and finding a "light" moisturizer to use daily in your daughter's hair. They key is finding something that will keep her hair healthy and supple without using too many chemicals and weighing it down. I used to use a product called LIV that you can sometimes find in beauty supply stores and that is realtively inexpensive.

Good Luck!!

There is a product that is actually made in the Dominican Repubblic you can only find it in spanish stores like Navarro & Sedanos , It is called Baba de Caracol they have it in a thick cream and leave in conditioner , It has worked wonders in my hair I use both pruduct when I wash my hair , You most not wash curly hair too oftern in the week I wash mine 2-3 times per week but if she is very active I'm sure you have wash her hair more often . Tehre is also another Domincan hair product that I like as well I can recall the name but it's next to la Baba de caracol ( it smells very good no lie LOL ) !!!!! It's an orange & white container with black letters saying something like Para planchar pelo something in those line . I hope this can help you !!!!

Jenn,
I have curly, dry hair and I have to use a leave in conditioner every day. for my girls I use johnson and johnson no more tangles leave in conditioner. It works well for their curls. But the curlier it is and the more manageable you want it, the thicker the leave in conditioner you'll want, it weighs it down more. Sometimes I use original euserin lotion, (the one that comes in a tub) when I want mine more relaxed. just work it in when it is damp. Just keep it on the shorter side so it is more workable, and will appear thicker. I know there are probably products out there that are made especially for mixed hair, but they are probably more expensive too. These work for me. Hopefully you'll get some good suggestions.
Good luck,
E.

Jenn,

I don't know if this will help. My daughter has curly hair- I am white/ husband white- of Italian decent- some Scilian.

For my daughter I use J & J shampoo for curly hair. I switched back to Heat to Toe for a while (different shower- so different products) her hair got dry. One day I resorted to using my Suave- Professional (different shower than ususal) It may her hair real soft, & less tangles. Would not recommend on a regular basis.

I would see about getting a consult from a Dominican Hair Salon. Don't know if there are any in your area. You may have to take her in. But I can say, they definitely know how to deal with different types of hair.
