Hair Loss

I knew my hair was going away, but was denying it for a long time. I had a reality check after I had my hair cut & the stylist actually had to comb my hair over a balding spot. My hair already is baby-fine. Has anyone had any success with Rogaine for Women? I'm only 38. I need to finally get out of this denial phase. Help!

What can I do next?

Hi there... I, too, had hair loss after my twins. I like the fact that I lost the weight, but, my hair? I swear that I can do a commercial and show you the new hair growth to this day of a natural supplement that I have been taking for years... I go to a place called Henry's, a natural food store, and purchase Silica. I don't have the bottle at this moment... It is white capsules or you can get the drinkable version...very chalky. The capsules are pure silica which is what our nails and hair consist of. It is in a white and blue box and is about $30 for a months supple. Initially I took 2 pills 3X a day. I still have SO many baby hairs all over the place, that my stylist is amazed. My nails also benefit from it. I truly swear by it.

I dont know anything about Rogaine, but i don know that post partum hair loss is very common. and is often associated with the thyroid, which commonly gets out of whack post partum. it took a while to figure out that i had this problem because alot of the symptoms can seem to be other things. if you have other symptoms (fatigue, weakness, difficulty thinking clearly, trouble with vision, memory recall, hair loss, excessive or rapid weight gain or loss...) it might be worth getting tested to find out. if you do get tested, be sure that hey dont test only TSH levels, but also T3 and T4 levels as well as thyroid antibody levels as all of these other levels are better indicators as to what is really going on. And it wouldnt hurt to take L-Tyrosine, selenium and iodine to make up for any losses. Good Luck

Hello Mary,

My name is K. and I went through the hair loss phase. For me it was a very stressful time in my life and I was experiencing some hormonal changes as well. Stress and Hormonal in balance is a HUGE cause of hair loss for men & women. I found two products that saved me completely. These are now my "Must Haves". Call or e-mail me and I will explain how to get them at cost. Very simple, just needs further details.I look forward to hearing from you ###-###-####).

Hi...I experienced hair lost with both of my children after birth. This last time was really bad because of a perm and braided hair. I ran to the Beauty Supply store crying for help and they introduced me to NIOXIN. It is a scalp treatment for stimulating hair growth: Shampoo, Scalp Therapy and a stimulating spray. Also she told me to use a plastic hair brush with the little round balls on the tips and hit my scalp to stimulate the blood. I saw that done afterwards on a TV commercial for hair growth which cost a lot more than what I paid. My hair grew back all over and very thick.

Woww Thirteen, three, and 19 month old! I'd be pulling my hair out to!! lol,,, Kidding M.. : ) I happen to know a little bit about hair loss. My youngest son began balding as early as 27 years old. He opted for surgical transpant. Yes it did work. He has a nice head of hair now! He says it was money well spent. Your best bet, would be to go to a (hair restoration specialist) Not for the implants,so much as they can tell you why your losing your hair. They say, that alot of times, women will lose their hair, right after a pregnancy,or a illness. It has to do with what they call(Male androgenetic alopecia) (Hormones) Rogaine won't be all that helpful. May get some result, but not what you'd like. The Dr. could prescribe a medication that was approved by the FDA called (Minoxidil) Its for (non surgical hair replacement).Check into it Mary. Don't wait, till you are feeling so self consious, that it prevents you from being happy go lucky you.The very best to you.

Hi Mary Jean!
How is your diet? Are you getting enough Minerals and Protein.
As an award winning stylist, Ive come accross so-many HAIR GROWTH products and scams....What I found about rogaine, is that it will help the SURVIVING hair Follicles, but will do Nothing for the Dead follicle cells.....
My uncle, has started using a product I suggested called Extreme X20. ( www.xooma.ca ) ..now, this product isn't advertised for hair growth, but on his Bald spot, my aunt pointed out this week, that there is Hair growing on his Bald Spot....
My Mother has noticed that her hair has become darker while using this product..Why, only god knows..This product is all 100% Natural, harvested from the ocean. The company Xoomaworldwide is doing research in Japan, as they have been recieving more and more testimonials about people and their hair growth.....
I am using it as well as My Hubby and our 4 month baby.....
Check it out, and e-mail me ____@____.com

It's amazing how many people (like myself) will try anything like Rogaine or vitamins etc. before having your thyroid checked!! It's simple, the most common reason for hair loss after childbirth and it is much less expensive the buying special hair products ir supplements. Go for it!

Hi M.
I have 2 kids of my own 6yrs and 11yrs
I am 37 yrs and same case as you.
my hair used to be thick and lots of hair now is no thin.
I also have a little bald spot in the top.
Been to several doctors tried Rogaine. But did not help for me.
The thing with rogaine is it feels sticky and yr hair looks dirty, doctors say it works but once you stop it using it its starts to fall out again.
Good luck.
I just style my hair different to cover the flaw.

Well I am glad you asked this question.... it just reminded me we are not alone. I too have lost so much hair since my son was born. He is now 7. It started after I stopped nursing him at the age of 2 and I thought it would stop after my hormones started to balance. It slowed down for a while but in the last year it has really gotten bad. Overall I have about 60% less hair than I used to. So I too will take any advice anyone can offer. Is there a good vitamin that I should be taking??? What else can I do? I already use Nioxin, and I do think it helps a little, but I still see so much hair coming out when I shower.

Chinese Medicine can be very helpful with hairloss which in your case is probably due to your weakended body after pregnancies (nursing??). Find a good acupuncturist that do herbs as well as acupuncture and have her/him look at you.

Before ingesting something for hair loss try Nioxin. It's a scalp treatment system that is easy to use and available in starter kits. You can Google Nioxin to find out more about it. It worked for me.

Before you start with trying hair products designed to promote hair growth, please have your thyroid tested as low thyroid can cause hair loss. I would check the medical things out first before trying to mess with over the counter products.

If you're comfortable with Chinese medicine, AKA acupuncture and herbs. They might be able to help you. I would try it before taking drugs. I don't know where you live but I'm a massage therapist at the Oasis Healing center on Venice Blvd near Centinela ###-###-####. You could call an ask for an appt with one of our accupuncturist. If that's not convienient find someone in your area. Hair loss is often tied to lung and grief/sadness inbalance in chinese med. Does that sound like you?? I hope you find a solution.
Good luck!!!

I do hair and I have had several clients lose hair after children. A little at about six months is normal. But if hair loss exceeds the normal amount, and occurs beyond the 5-6 month mark I usually suggest going to the doctor. A lot of times it can be a warning sign for thyroid imbalances. At least if it is not medical you can rule out any ailments and come up with a solution. Good Luck!

I wanted to read the advice the other mom's gave you, and am new to the site and not sure how to properly navigate. Sorry, I don't have any advice, but I need it! One thing I have been using for a while, that works great for existing hair is a supplement called Biotin - it's for hair and nails. I read about it a couple of years ago in a magazine that comes free with my cigarette coupons, of all things. There was an article written by a young lady who's friend was a beautician. The friend had a hair show to do and asker her writer friend to be her subject. During the preliminaries, the writer's hair was measured, deemed too short and therefore out of the competition at that point. The friend suggested the writer use Biotin, so that she could use her to compete in the upcoming show. the writer took it and by the next time they came around to measure her hair, it was long enough. Mind you, it did not grow drastically in the short amount of time (a span of a few weeks maybe? maybe a couple of months?) but it did grow enough so that she just barely qualified. That article prompted me to go out and buy some, just for the heck of it, and I have noticed a difference - my hair is longer, but not any thicker or fuller :( Good luck and let me know if there are any miracles out there :)I have such thin hair I can use a bobby pin as a ponytail holder :(

Have you been losing or gaining a lot of weight? If you are losing weight and hungry all the time, having trouble sleeping and feel a little on edge, you might have an over active thyroid. If you are rediculously tired, gaining weight, out of breath, achy and irritable, you may have an under active thyroid. Ask your doctor to check your thyroid panel. Good luck!

First thing you have to do is have your doctor order a thyroid test and hormone level check. You might also try Nioxin products for thinning hair available at any beauty supply store.

First you should see your GP to make sure there is not an underlying condition causing the hair loss like a thyroid deficiency.
