Hi Everyone-
Has anyone delivered their baby at Good Shepherd since the construction to the maternity floor has started. I am due any day and I am a little nervous about going there. I have recently heard that you have to share a postpartum room due to space issues. I did not have to share with my first child. If anyone has been there recently please let me know how it was.

Thanks!

I was there in May and had no issues. If you end up delivering on the weekend, there is no work going on. They told me the same thing about sharing a room but there was only one other mom w/baby when I was there...I hope you have an easy delivery. Good luck!!

I love Good Shepherd. They have good food and now because of the construction you get not only a pedicure but also a manicure. My friend just had her baby on Wednesday and had her own room til Sat. It is so nice there already..not sure why they are redoing it. :) Good luck with your baby!

Hi T.,
I work part time at Good Shepherd as a Lactation Consultant on the weekends. Most of the rooms are still single rooms, although a few of them are able to be doubled. They do not double up unless the census is very high. This past week that was necessary, but this is the first time since the construction began that I remember the need to do that. You may only have to share for a very short time, because they always try to double a room in which one mom will be going home soon. One family last week opted to stay in the Labor/Delivery room rather than move to Postpartum because of the sharing. That may also be an option. The staff always try very hard to accomodate your wishes. I hope this has helped and I hope you enjoy your stay! As another mom posted, you get extra "perks" right now because of the construction, too.
Happy Birthing!

I am about to deliver there too. I have heard that the nurses stations have been redone but I haven't heard anything about sharing rooms. I know the waiting room is non-existent and they are giving visitors pagers downstairs and page them when they can come up. A friend of mine just stopped by and she knows a labor and delivery nurse there so she is going to ask for more details from her. I will let you know the scoop!

My friend just delivered her baby there and had her own room. It probably depends on how many women have a baby at the same time. There were only a couple of babies born the same day. I had both of my children at Good Shepherd and loved my experiences. The nurses were very good. They truly want you to enjoy this time. Good luck and congratulations!

T.,

My sister Michelle was there this past weekend (Thursday - Saturday) and she went in at about 1AM. I headed over there at 2:30 to be with her (I live really close). Anyway, they told her that she may have a roommate after her son was born. She was worried about it. As it turns out, from the time I got there until she went into actually pushing, I saw FIVE Mom's come in that were in labor. I thought for sure she was going to have to share.

Then, while at the Cafe by the main entrance, we saw 6 or 7 leave. It was a crazy busy time for them. Michelle never had to share a room. :)

Good luck and enjoy Good Shepherd. I delivered both of my sons there in 2005 and 2007 and the staff is absolutely amazing. They are so attentive and encouraging.

Glad you asked this as I am delivering in December there and wondered the same thing.
