Hi, I just moved to TX and the OB/GYN office I found only delivers at McKinney or Presby of Allen. I am now starting to hear bad things about delivering at Presby of Allen. Has anyone had bad or good experiences at Presby of Allen??

I delivered my daughter by c-section at Presby Allen almost two years ago and I had a very good experience. The staff was wonderful and I have been going to my Ob/Gyn, Dr. Rajala since puberty.
The classes were very good and the lactation consultant is excellent; even post delivery.
I have not used their ER, but as far as baby goes, if I get pregnant again, I intend on delivering there again.
I delievered 2 babies there 4 years apart, both c-sections and had wonderful experiences both times. Dr. Pierce is very well respected there and took great care of me. The nurses are very attentive with first time moms and since the hospt. is fairly small, I feel like you get a lot of personal attention. HTH
I delivered my second child at Presby Allen in April with the assistance of a nurse midwife. I had a great experience. The only snag I ran into was that I registered early by submitting my paperwork through the mail and it got delayed. I delivered 3 weeks early unexpectedly and that could have contributed to the delay in paperwork being received. Understand that it goes to a central location in Arlington, gets processed and then submitted to the specific hospital.
Anyway, I was checked in and cared for by very supportive and caring staff. They tended to me during my 3 days stay very well and they have a great lactation consultant, Vicki, there who worked wonders for me and my "poor latch" baby boy. She even worked with me via phone and visits to the hospital weeks after delivery.
On another note, I hired a photographer to shoot my delivery and I had my husband and 2 mothers-in-law in the room during my delivery - 4 people besides myself and the staff delivering my baby. You won't find that kind of atmosphere in many hospitals in the area.
Presby Allen also has a sort-of room service type meal system. You call, place an order, and it's delivered within 30 minutes or so. Unlike other hospitals where you choose your breakfast the night before and everyone's food is delivered at the same time. You might not be hungry at noon! And they deliver snacks to you during the day as well. The food tasted good as hospital food goes.
You might need to know that they are very pro-breast feeding and assume that you will breast feed unless you tell them otherwise. They also believe in rooming in - the baby stays with you at all times unless you need to go out of your room or you are going to shower and need supervision for the baby. This is only an issue if it's your second or third child and you are looking for a little rest before you have to go home and manage multiple kiddos.
Well, that might be more than you wanted to know or more than you care about, but it's an honest and objective description of my recent experience with Presby Allen. Good luck with your delivery wherever you happen to deliver!
I have delivered 2 babies at Presby Allen, both c-sections. I didn't have any negative experiences at all and recommend them to anyone.
I have 2 children 5 years apart, both were delivered at Presby Allen and I had great experiences both times. Dr Rajala is my DR and I would give a glowing recommendation to anyone who would listen. (His office is in the hospital on the 3rd floor. As long as I live in this area I will never go to another Dr.) The staff there was great and never hesitated to give me what I needed. I was in and out of labor and delivery several times during both pregnancies. I went in to preterm labor and had problematic pregnancies. They were great every time I had to go in. I think that it does not matter what hospital you go to, there are going to be amazing stories and horror stories both. It all depends on your situation. good luck on finding a DR that works for you.
I had a wonderful experience there.
Goodluck

I delivered both of my babies at Presby Allen and they are 3 years apart. I have never heard of anyone having a negative experience there. Both of my nurses were wonderful and very helpful as was my doctor. I loved being able to stay in one room the whole time and the baby care was excellent. My babies were delivered by Dr. Shimer from Craig Ranch OBGYN.
Hi H.,
I have never delivered at either place but I have two good friends that have. One had a terrible delivery at Presby of Allen and thought about sueing them five years ago because of it. The other was more recent. She delivered 15 months apart at Presby of Allen and had a wonderful experience both times. (Well, as wonderful as she could have had!) The last one was about a month ago. Hope this helps.

Hi H.!
I delivered at Presby of Allen in February. I had a wonderful experience. We took a lamaze class there as well. Joy was our teacher and she was also my labor & deliver nurse & lactation consultant. I absolutely would recommend Presby of Allen. I was as comfortable as I could e & the staff was super nice & helpful. If you want more details just message me.
delivered via c-section at Presby allen -- great experience...
Dr. Shimer
I delivered at McKinney 16 months ago and loved the nurses there. A friend delivered at Allen a couple month ago and even though they say they are pro breast feeding, the nurses and the on call ped did not act like it at all. No one told her that she needed to wake the baby to feed at least every three hours, so she was feeding on demand. The baby lost 10% and the ped was going to declare her failure to thrive and put her on a feeding tube. The lactaion consult had to fight not to. They also gave the baby Similac w/o Mom's knowledge.
I don't know about delivering babies at Presby Allen but I do know the ER staff was fantasic for us more than once.
Hi H.,
I had a great experience at Presby Allen. Tricia Shimer of Craig Ranch OBGYN delivered my baby via c-section that we had planned (baby was breech). If you trust your doctor, that is the most important thing. My doctor protected and stood up for me when one of the nurses got snippy. And...pray hard!
All the best!
I had two friends deliver at Presby over the past 2 years and both of them loved it. I know they used to offer a tour and birthing classes so you might want to check into that if your curious about the rooms and stuff. Both my friends thought it was great. I delivered and Med.Center of McKinney for both of my kids and while the rooms don't have internet access and stuff like that, it was very nice and I liked all my nurses. However, my last experience there was 3 years ago and I don't know if things have changed since all the construction. The nursery nurses we had there I absolutely loved and the LaLeche league will visit you at that hospital I know for sure. I wouldn't worry about either hospital really. K.
I've had 2 friends have bad experiences there. One scenerio to concider: baby needs NICU, you get to stay at Presby Allen while baby is moved to another hospital. That was a nightmare for my cousin.
I've also had bad billing experiences with Presby Allen.
They generally are not equipped for things beyond the basics.
I would recommend the Baylor system, Presby plano is o.k. (still billing issues), McKinney is O.k., Cintennial has been good for us and our friends.
I've never had a bad experience at that hospital, but I chose not to deliver either of my kids there. At the time they did not have a NICU unit at the hospital. This meant that if something was wrong with the baby, she would have been shipped to another hospital that had an NICU, while I stated at Allen Presby. I figured better safe than sorry so I delivered at Presby Dallas. As it turns out, my youngest had to stay in NICU for a week before she came home. At least for the first three days I was able to go right upstairs and feed her and be with her. They may have since added an NICU at Presby Allen, but if they haven't it is something to consider.
I delivered at Mckinney and had a great experience. My sister just had a hysterectomy this week and had a great experience at Presby of Allen.....hope that helps.
My friend has had both of her kids there (age 4 & 1) and had great experiences.
Go to Dr. wells at Presby. Plano. He is the best in the area. He offices at the hospital and delivers there. ###-###-#### I had two c-sections and he did both. It was wonderful. You will totally enjoy the experience. I would not go to Allen even if I was on my death bed. Allen said they were changing things especially in there ER, but I wouldn't gamble with my baby. GOOD LUCK
I delivered my daughter 2 years ago by c-section at Allen Presby, and as a nervous first-time mom, everyone was WONDERFUL! Dr. Colin Stacy is my OB and I cannot say enough good things about him. The nurses were wonderful, too. I will definitely be going back again for #2.
Best of luck!
I had my little girl at Allen Presby and everything went well. The only thing is that the room had some cosmetic issues, like the flooring needed and some other things like that. This was 20 months ago, but the staff was all great. I wouldnt hesitate to deliver there again if the need arose. Hey, you will always here good and bad about a place, but usually bad news travels faster. As long as you and your baby are healthy, Allen hosp will be fine.
Hope that helps and welcome to Tx, I've been in the area for 2 years and I'm loving it.
