Gold Party?

A friend of mine hosted one and I couldn't go but I sent some stuff just to see what would happen. I got about $150 for it. Have fun if you go. Oh and I didn't have that much stuff to bring. My her sister however left with I think like $500.

If you go, I'd take it to a few appraisers first to get the real value of the gold. I saw an investigative news report (I think maybe it was "Dateline") on gold parties and they found that some of the party appraisers DRASTICALLY and deliberately underestimated the value of the items. You may be better off selling your jewelry at a pawn shop (once again, after getting a few different appraisals).

I'm a skeptic. I think you are likely do better to take it to a pawn shop. Those people are not handing out free money. Most likely they take the stuff they collect and get more money back for it than they hand out, so why shouldn't you get it's full value for yourself? Cutting out the middle man is always profitable.

One of our news stations did a story about the gold parties and the scam involved with them. Just beware

i did party of gold. my hairdresser had one first and i got $1300. then i hosted a party, and sold another $1000 and got $700 in commission for hosting it. i had alot of gold items that were passed from my grandmother, to my mom and then too me, that i just wont wear. so if you think you have lot of stuff, i'd bring it and check out the prices. and if you are contemplating hosting your own show, i'd keep most of it to turn in at your own show - so then you get the host commission off the stuff you want to sell too.

my SIL went to a cash 4 gold party, and then came to my party. for the same peice the cash 4 gold was only going to give her $20, party of gold gave her $75. so of the choices i'd do a party of gold party.

now is a great time to do it - we did it in early november and everyone was using their money for christmas shopping. and it's a great "home party show" that people don't mind coming too b/c they walk away with money, instead of spending it.

my step mom got a lot of $ for her gold. but i have not done personally I want to try it though

You may want to shop your gold around before going to the gold party. I saw an expose on gold parties on TV and people were getting ripped off.

I did not go to a gold "party" but I was a vendor at an event that also had a gold rep there. I brought in old things that I did not wear, some were 14k and some 18k, some even 10k and I was surprised to get back 450.00. I never would have expected that. That was back in Feb and I think gold is even more valuable today. I would take your things there just to see the value - you may be surprised.

Yes, I went to one. I went in thinking, I'll be happy if I walk out with $150. They weigh it all out in front of you. Seperate each kind of gold, 24 kt, 14 kt, etc. I walked out with $584!!! I was so excited! I never imagine getting that much.

I have a friend who has done a couple of them. She went to one and made about $950, then she hosted a couple. She got $100 for hosting each party. I think it depends on who the buyer is too. I went to an auction house and spoke to the head of the fine jewelry department about a piece I wanted to sell (it wasn't gold). She said the gold parties can be good if the buyer is knowledgeable but you have no guarantee. You might not get anywhere near the value of the gold you have. She referred me to an antique dealer who bought some of my gold. I guess you have nothing to lose - you go and eat the appetizers, have some wine, socialize until it's your turn to sit with the buyer. As I understand it, they take some sort of magnet and see if there are other metals in the gold piece. If so, it's not valuable and they send you home with it. But my friend got $900 for a sandwich-size baggie of stuff, so she was happy. Granted, she had a lot of jewelry to start - a large baggie full, and they took about half. The person she used was from a bank. I don't know if that makes a difference.

I made $300 on stuff that was broken or so dated I would never wear again. I don't know if it was a good deal or not, but I am not missing what I sold.

They are basically helpful and convenient for folks who do not know a personal jewler to go to; however, you will not get as much money for your gold as you would going directly to a trusted jewler.
