Going off of Birth Control - Glendale,AZ

My husband and I recently decided to go off of my birth control for a few reasons. 1)we both want more kids soon 2)he is going to school out of town and is only home on the weekends therefore its pointless for me to spend so much money on something I am barely using when we are ready for another baby.

My issue is I was on Nuvaring. I took my last one out on July 1st and my period started on july 4th. Ever since I started my period I have been VERY VERY regular. like every 28 days regular. My question is, is there anyone who has been on Nuvaring and gone off of it and it threw their cycle for a spin? I started having pinkish discharge (which is what always happens when i start my period) on Mon July 30th. I was supposed to start today wed. aug 1st. but everything completely stopped. No spotting, nothing. Its not normal for my body but I dont know if its just because I am off of my birth control? Anyone have any ideas??

What can I do next?

I was on the nuvaring and thought it was the greatest thing ever until I got off of it last december to try and conceive another baby. Like you right away I got a period, then I went 2 months without getting one and I went to the dr. My hormones were SO screwed up that they had to put me back on the pill for 2 months just to try and straighten everything out. Anyway it was the worste experience ever for me I had moodswings as if I was pregnant. It is something that I will NEVER use again! If you have any other questions feel free to email me.

Well, I've never been on Nuvaring, but I do know from my GYNO that 21-30 days is normal for a cycle. I used to be at 28-30...after my last child I don't go past 25 days. Your body just changes sometimes. I wouldn't be concerned. Plus after going off of a hormone BC your body has to re-adjust its own levels. It just takes time. Good Luck with the baby making, kids are the greatest gift ever! :)

A.,

I know nothing about Nuvaring, but I do know a little bit about pregnancy. Sometimes, when you are first pregnant, the egg will implant into your uterus and cause you to spot (or pink discharge). That happened with three out of four of my pregnancies. So, it is possible that you're already pregnant, dear. Perhaps have a test done? Good luck!

Hugs,
Kat

Hi! I worked in a Doctor's office for a few years and we'd always say that when you get off any type of birthcontrol to expect things can go out of whack for a little while as your body readjusts to life without the added hormones. In fact when I tried to get pregnant the first time I got off the pill and my cycle was so irregular that nearly every month I was taking a pregnancy test...I went from being a 30 day girl to sometimes not having a cycle for up to 45 days. As I recall it seemed as though every month I added two days to the length of time between my cycles. Your best bet regardless is to wait it out and see what schedule you develop after another month or two and check with your Doctor now that you have decided to get off BC as its always important to do so before getting pregnant again

I had the same thing when I stopped using the Nuvaring. I took about 3 months before I was back to normal. I know that it does take a little time for your body to adjust to coming off the birth control. So it may be normal but if you are really concerned you may want to call your doctor just to make sure.

Yes... With some women it can take 2 or 3 months after you stop the birth control, before your cycle returns to a more predictable schedule... Or, so says my OBGYN. But, just for the sake of relieving your worries, call your doctor for more feedback. That's what they're suppose to be there for!
